oh the memories!

Gladly, our time apart is about to come to an end. I will be moving
back to Atlanta in August! Yes, soon we will be frolicking in the

Yeah, Nimer doesn't like flash forms. Flex 3 data grids are fixed and
expanded for more use. We already have a client that shall use them with it

I hadn't caught that from Nimer before, nice to hear. I thought from the

Wonder if the JSP tag lib for Flex 1.5 will work under CF 7.*

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] Flex functionality

2007-07-13 Thread AppDeveloper

Flex applications can run when the Internet is down, but as mentioned, with
the database interaction you do run into a few issues.

Just past that and into AIR. You can give your company more with it's
FileSystem API and ValueObjects, storing more than just the cookie
information at the client computer. Then monitor for when an Internet
connection is made, continue with the database interactions when the client
was away (stored in the ValueObject). You also get the ability to develop
applications that can run like an ordinary web application or take it
offline and into other hardware modules.

HTML forms, for all that they are worth, do not let you develop outside the
box without browser issues base on maker. Flex and AIR give the ability to
develop swank components, easing user the interface into a more engaging
experience for your client in and out of your company without worrying what
browser the user has at his disposal.

My company wanted me to explore Flex and its
functionality so I started programming in Flex a few
months ago and done some basic stuff as well as an
interesting graphical mapping relationship
application. Now I'm presenting Flex and its
viability in our business environment to a group in
September. I wanted to see what other Flex
programmers thought about the product and its
usefulness compared to other web applications. From
what I've found so far there are a few things I like,
1) that it forces web programmers back into an object
oriented methodology, 2) the application still runs if
the web goes down (even though it might not be able to
access any database info), and 3) the binding features
to produce real time changes which looks especially
handy with the data service that we haven't gotten
yet. Let me know your thoughts.

In most of our applications that we run our basic authentication is to
have them provide their email address as a username and then a password.

We store that password hashed with salt onto our databases, and have no
real way of knowing what it is. If a user forgets their password then they
have the system email them a link with a URL with a GUID variable that takes
them to a page where they can reset their password to whatever they want
again, and again only its hash is stored in our databases.

Now this is all fine and dandy, except what happens if this person both
forgets their password and changes email, say they changed jobs and no
longer have access to the old email, how do you now authenticate this
person?

Currently, we don't have any secret questions or the like set up, but is
that the only way.

Just curious on some of your ideas out there on how you do authentication,
especially in the case of changed email and forgotten password.

The only problem with this is that you must put tags around your
query inside of your tags for it to work, or it will choke on the
# signs. so you just use it like this:

SELECT * FROM thistable WHERE this = #qparam("int","2338")#

Tangent off the RegEx dialog. Ryan Swanson (ATL local) wrote a Flex Reg Ex
explorer. I know it's not specifically for CF, but it's a nice way to
experiment.

It was an intranet. Going with 20 I knew I didn't have to worry about

That policy wouldn't fly in the real world for most apps. And if you go

If you think you need such strong passwords, you're better off going to
 an
RSA token or one time pad type of authentication system.
