RE: [ACFUG Discuss] MySpace growth
It depends on which government you're referring to. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is running BlueDragon on BEA WebLogic, the U.S. Senate is running BlueDragon.NET, the City of Los Angeles and Hillsborough County (Florida) are running BlueDragon Server JX. I'm sure there are more--those are just the first ones I can think of offhand. Let me know if you'd like more information, or want to arrange a meeting. RE: [ACFUG Discuss] MySpace growth
The MySpace servers running BlueDragon.NET are all still 32-bit. As for 64-bit support, I spoke at a conference in Rome last November with Ben Forta, where he said publicly it's unlikely that Scorpio will provide native 64-bit support. You can also read the comments by Damon Cooper (CFMX Director of Engineering) regarding 64-bit support (he's less than enthusiastic): http://www.fekke.com/blog/index.cfm/2006/12/20/Does-ColdFusion-need-64-bit-S upport-Short-answer-Yes Our plans are to provide native 64-bit support for BlueDragon 7.0 on the widest number of platforms possible. In fact, there's already a beta of native 64-bit BD 7.0 for Red Hat Linux 4 (RHEL4) and the x64 architecture: ftp://ftp.newatlanta.com/public/bluedragon/7_0b2/server/BlueDragon_Server_JX _70_326-Linux64.sh Vince Bonfanti New Atlanta Communications, LLC http://www.newatlanta.com -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Steven Ross Sent: Friday, January 19, 2007 9:48 AM To: discussion@acfug.org Subject: Re: [ACFUG Discuss] MySpace growth I think the most interesting part is that they no longer use CF, actually the article mentions that they moved away from CF awhile ago. And the reason why they are using BD .NET is because they want to run native .NET code as it is faster. Granted it is probably faster due to the fact that it can actually utilize the 64 bit processor better than running CF on 32 bit java under a 64bit OS/CPU (not the only reason but, probably one). RE: [ACFUG Discuss] MySpace growth
You should read the original article that started this thread to answer that question: http://www.baselinemag.com/article2/0,1540,2082921,00.asp The main issues that affect MySpace performance are: 1. they get more traffic than any web site in the world; and, 2. every page is dynamically generated via multiple database queries (there are no static pages, and because each page is customized per user, there's little opportunity for query caching). The main thing they've struggled with (still struggle with?) is the database, as discussed in the Baseline article. Since they switched to BlueDragon and .NET, there have been no issues with the front-end web servers. RE: [ACFUG Discuss] Smith Project
I spoke at a conference in Rome in early November along with Ben Forta; he said publicly that while Scorpio (CFMX 8) will support Java 5, it might not ship with Java 5 as the default JVM. Something about there being lots of third-party software in CFMX, some of which might not support Java 5, and a requirement to be backwards-compatible to JDK 1.3 due to contractual obligations to IBM. BlueDragon 7.0 requires Java 5 as the minimum JVM, so we could take advantage of some of the new features. Since Java 6 was just released, we actually talked about moving to Java 6 before BD 7.0 is released, but decided against it. However, we'll probably include Java 6 in a BD 7.0.1 updater in mid-2007. There are some nice performance improvement in Java 6 in addition to the ones in Java 5.
