Re: [DNG] Ubuntu w/out systemd?
If you like that sort of thing.. http://exegnulinux.net/ Is a Devuan based distro using Trinity DE out of the box. So I think that would be your go to easy option for that. Looks updated as of December just gone. Other than that you can use KDE or MATE on Devuan ascii beta, if you're looking for something bigger. Depends on your requirements. Not quite true. There is a Devuan derivative that uses TDE. It was one of the first! https://sourceforge.net/projects/exegnulinux/ And yes, TDE won't get into the Devuan repos unless someone steps up to package AND maintain it from release to release. Re: [DNG] Ubuntu w/out systemd?
I had never heard of Trinity until now, and I've done a bit of searching through distributions without systemd: https://blog.spiralofhope.com/tag/linux-distributions-which-do-not-use-systemd It might still be available for one of them, but I suspect that when I looked, it wasn't the main desktop environment for any of them. Unless there's a packager behind the scenes working on it (fingers crossed for you), Devuan itself doesn't have it packaged, so it's unsurprising that (at a glance) no distribution based on Devuan features Trinity. I was still curious.. I tried to find the developers' reasoning in building it, as philosophies are a fascinating read for me. I had no luck. It appears to be a continuation that matured into its own desktop environment. May I ask your reasoning for wanting Trinity? [DNG] Crash when using recent avconv (libav-tools)
Problem: avconv crashes while building a video from an image and audio. It worked until a recent update. (I'll also hang out on IRC in case people need me live.) I am using Devuan-1.0.0-jessie-i386-DVD According to `apt-cache show libav-tools` I have 6:11.12-1~deb8u1 I am trying to do a command like: \rm --force output.mp4 \avconv \ -loop 1 \ -i "image.jpg" \ -i "audio.ogg" \ -shortest \ -acodec copy \ -c:v:1 libx264 \ -profile:v high \ -r 1 \ output.mp4 When running the above and appending `2> foo.txt` I get: https://pastebin.com/5Q9qqCMb - The error seems to happen at different times under the same conditions, though I have not done specific testing to confirm this. - I have tried variations of the above command, with no luck. - I have tried different audio and images, with no luck. I have tried to downgrade: apt-cache showpkg libav-tools I see: 6:11.11-1~deb8u1 .. I didn't take very good notes at this point, but I think I did something like: apt-get install libav-tools-6:11.11-1~deb8u1 apt-mark hold libav-tools I have tried fetching the dependency chain from an old version of Debian, but that was a nightmare that ultimately didn't work out. I have.. tried installing Debian-proper, but good god damn its disk access is busted. A bad scheduler? Well it serves me right. According to old notes, this version worked: 6:11.9-1~deb8u1 .. however, I do not know if a more recent version worked before I noticed this problem. My other thoughts are: - Install devuan_ascii_2.0.0_beta_i386_desktop-live - Install beta packages, if I can be directed to them. - Vary the script and re-test as needed. - Prepare and host this script and specific images and audio so this can be tested by others. - Try to use a different video codec. -- x265 seems to be missing -- I don't really understand any of this. Building the command I'm currently using was trial-and-error from some searching. ___ Dng mailing list Dng@lists.dyne.org https://mailinglists.dyne.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/dng
