Re: [libreoffice-documentation] How to stop emails from CMS?

2011-01-28 Thread David Nelson
Hi, :-)

I am not aware of any way to change this. You'd have to go on the
website list and pester Christian Lohmaier about it.

My only solution is to set a filter of some kind in your mail client.

HTH, but I imagine it doesn't much...

[libreoffice-documentation] Writer Guide status / my role

2011-01-28 Thread Hal Parker
I plan to keep working my way through the Writer Guide chapters in the
Drafts space. When Barbara and I finish with them, I plan to start reviewing
the ones she has put in the Review space. With any luck, those can go
directly to Proofing.

I am not paying much attention to terminological consistency, as I think
that's a "nice to have" that can wait until the next release of the book and
I'm not great at that level of detail anyway. I am trying to do all the
rebranding things, but no doubt I'll miss something that someone will pick
up on the next pass.

The one thing I am definitely NOT doing is changing the borders and the row
colours in tables of data. Now that the OOo books have their tables in
black, white, and gray, I can't see the need for taking the time to change
them to a slightly different pattern of black, white, and gray. Maybe for a
later release, but not now. If someone else wants to do it now, that's their
business.

When things are well enough advanced, I'm happy to put all the chapters
together into a book... unless the various steps take so long that I've gone
off on some trip and am not available. Of course, if someone else wants to
do it, that's fine with me.

I've not caught up with who else is working on the Writer Guide, or what
they are doing or planning to do.

I just noticed that those spaces are there. Probably have been for some
time, but I hadn't noticed. Sorry, Jeremy; you're probably wondering
"what is she on about?" :-)

Shall I start uploading the OOo files to the Drafts folders for Draw,
Calc, Math, for people to work on rebranding when they have a chance?

The OOo Impress Guide, btw, needs more updating. Michele Zarri is
working on it, though I don't have a estimated date when he'll had the
revised draft ready.

The Getting Started guide is well enough advanced to have on the docs page
of the wiki, and they are there.

But the Writer Guide chapters on the wiki were out of date. The Docs page on
the main LibO website never did link to anything except the Getting Started
guide.

Hi Hal, all

I disagree. I think the Getting Started guide chapters are well enough
along to be considered almost final for a first release. They just need
to be reviewed by someone before being considered final for 3.3. If we
remove the Writer Guide files, what are the users going to read if they
need some documentation? Especially since 3.3 was just released and many
people will be visiting the site. They need to be able to download
something, even if it's not finished. The wiki is a working space as
well, in every area of the project.

I also thought that the documentation development page for working files
should not have been deleted so quickly. Alfresco is only in it's
infantcy as far as implementation goes. It would have been nice to have
kept it until things are more ironed out.

Just my opinion though.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Joining the documentation team

2011-01-28 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)

Welcome in. Resumes and examples are not necessary. Just register and start
working your magic.

There are probably some guidelines to help with all this alfresco newness.
Alfresco is a fairly new system to us but it is rapidly getting much better as
people get used to it and report problems to the list so that they get fixed.

There are probably more guidelines to try to help us try to stay reasonably
consistent although i think we should avoid being excessive about that
otherwise
it will take too long to get our first finished result out there.

I think our main focus should be on making sure we don't accidentally say
OpenOffice where we should say LibreOffice. Apart from that i think we can
forgive each other a lot.

Reviewing is probably an excellent idea because then you can just jump straight
in without worrying about the guidelines too much and perhaps just build up
from there.

Good luck and welcome in from
Tom :)

Hello LibreOffice documentation team!

I'm interested in contributing to LibreOffice, and since I don't know how to
code and I do know how to write, the documentation team seemed like a good
fit. Of the areas listed on libreoffice.org, the two that most interest me
(and I could do best) are "Authoring" and "Proofreading, reviewing and
editing." I worked as an assistant editor for the newspaper at my college,
so I have experience writing, editing, and proofreading (I also took classes
in journalism). I use Writer and Impess with some regularity, although I'm
no LibreOffice expert. I would be happy to send along some of my writing or
even a resume, if that would be useful.

[libreoffice-documentation] [ ] vs <>

2011-01-28 Thread Tom Davies
Aaargh, i think the correct term is [chuckle] using <> means keep doing
whatever
until a relevant ends it.

I'm glad i am not the only one that sometimes gets thrown by names that are too
similar. Firefox often seems to be called "Mozzarella" (a type of cheese) lqtm.

I tend to find it easier to format and place pictures but uploading them is
trickier. If people have trouble with one aspect then it's probably better to
do the bit you can and make a note so that the reviewer can do the other bit.
Collaboration rather than over-reaching your limits. You will soon find the
answer anyway.

Regards from
Tom :)
