[libreoffice-documentation] Attribution as an author of Calc Guide

2021-04-27 Thread Stefan Weigel
Dear active community,

would you mind adding my name to the contributors section of the
Calc Guide since I am the original author of chapter 8?
Respectively, as well, would you please attribute me as the original
author in the prefix of chapter 8, which is published as a separate
file?

As a matter of fact I am no longer active in the project. Also I am
not subscribed to this mailing list anymore (and I hope some
moderator will pick up this message ;-) ).

However the Pivot Table chapter in the manual still reflects the
main structure as well as a good portion of my wording and
illustrations that I created formerly in my initial version in
German and which I published in September 25th, 2008 under the
CC-BY-SA license.

Thanks for your cooperation and sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers,
Stefan Weigel

Please remember: Never forward to the mailing list any private
information (like a postal address), that has been sent to you offlist.

Thanks,

I fixed it for you.

The problem on this particular page is, that the source code
contains {{Lang|title}} more than one time. You will have to put
your desired Title into every instance.

You could create a filter rule with your mail provider or in your
mail client.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Updated wiki Install Libreoffice page

Not really.

IMO the website is meant to be an entry point. People should easily
and quickly learn that LibreOffice is great software, easy to use
and that it´s free. The site should motivate the visitor to use or
at least try LibreOffice and it should motivate people to become an
active supporter of the community.

In this sense http://www.libreoffice.org/ is already doing a fairly
good job, mostly due to your contribution.

If John Doe then looks at the installation instructions, he might
probably be deterred again. It looks terribly complex and difficult.
Primarily we should clarify, that installation usually is very, very
simple. (By the way, actually a lot easier and faster than MS
Office!) For special and specific cases we have of course
detailed support articles...

IMO there is no need to edit and keep these support articles in the
CMS. The wiki is just the right place.

For example, the german Ubuntu Users Community has best experiences
with http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de. Their only place for support
articles is the wiki. The wiki has a much lower barrier for
potentially contributing authors and thus ubuntuusers.de has a
tremendous high number of competent users, who share their knowledge
and experience via the wiki.

For installing LibreOffice, average users in the very most cases
won´t need any instructions at all. Windows users will just do a
double-click to start the self-explaining installer, just as they
are used to from any other software. Mac users will drag&drop it to
the applications folder, just as they are used to from any other
software. Most Linux Users will install it from the repository of
their distribution, just as they are to from any other software.
Some Linux experts may choose another way, but these users are
skilled anyway.

There surely remains a little percentage of special cases, where the
user needs more information or support for installing. But this
little percentage does not justify a prominent place for detailed
documentation on the website, that carries the danger and gives the
impression that installing LibreOffice is a cumbersome affair.

Please do *not* delete or move this wiki pages!

IMO the wiki is even a better place for this kind of detailed
documentation. And the website should not be overloaded by this.

Moreover, this wiki page is the base for many other pages with
translations into other languages, for some of which we don´t even
have a website.

Thanks.
