My original design for it was to hook it up to Icecast and stream the
entire BBC multiplex on different channels. Should have given me nice
flash-free radio streams again. Never quite got OpenDAB to decode more
than 1 station at a time though.

Re: [Dorset] Listening to BBC Radio stations online without iPlayer

2010-11-16 Thread Dan Wentworth
Hi Fred,

Unfortunately the BBC stopped offering real media streams back in the
summer, I haven't yet managed to find an alternative stream.

In the end I bought an old Psion Wavefinder off of ebay to listen to the
radio through my PC. Not all that portable though.

On 16 Nov 2010 18:15, "StarLion" wrote:

Hey all,
I've found a little problem with listening to BBC Radio stations, and
possibly others online.
Normally I feed Rhythmbox the URL for the stream and listen live
through it, but apparently they've changed something and now those
URLs are 404ing on me. There doesn't seem to be any sign of new ones,
and what's more the website wants the iPlayer, which I've yet again
tried to get working on Arch, and yet again found it's a fairly lost
cause.
I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any new URLs I can give
Rhythmbox to get it working again, or if anyone knew of an
iPlayer-less nice and simple way to get access to them without all the
hassle.

Buses from Wimborne to Bournemouth run fairly regularly with the last bus
back to Bournemouth leaving The Square at 22:15.

Last time I checked the public car parks in Wimborne are free after 6pm.

CentOS (http://centos.org/) is supposed to be binary compatible with RHEL if

Hi Natalie, welcome to DLUG.

There's also Mr Kyps (http://www.mrkyps.net) and Chords (

have decent bands playing; the acoustics in Chords aren't great however.

I've always favoured Minicom for controlling serial devices in *nix.
It's pretty easy to set up, easily available for Ubuntu, and not
terribly difficult to set up. It'll also save you having to drag in the
GTK dependencies for gtkterm (since you're using Kubuntu)

I know I'm a bit late to this vote, but I'm much more likely to be able

I am however unable to make this months meeting either way since I'm

The Open Rights Group reports today that 10,000 people have written to
their MP (presumably stats from the 38 degrees website), but the
corporate lobbyists are still pushing to get this through.

http://www.openrightsgroup.org/blog/2010/1-letters-sent-to-mps-to-demand-disconnection-debate

It's going to be very difficult for MPs to ignore the level of support
that the campaign has raised. Hopefully the demonstration next week in
London will also be a spectacular display of support.

Incidentally, if anyone would like to attend the demonstration next week
(Wednesday, 5:30pm, Westminster) then I'll be driving up and I still
have a free seat in my car.

LyX is good, there's also a really good gedit plugin for writing LaTeX.
It's a little more rustic than LyX, but good if you want finer control
over the code.

Alternatively, if compiling by hand it's a good idea to install rubber
and get that to do a lot the hard work for you (integrating bibtex files
etc.).

I have no problem with Mono and C# in principle, however since
Microsoft haven't opened up the specification for WinForms it's very
difficult to create a cross-platform application with Mono that
includes a GUI. If the WinForms API was opened up so that other
platforms could run those applications I might think differently.

It also concerns me that Microsoft might at a later date extend
the .NET runtime and not publish the changes back to the ECMA, leaving
other .NET CLR implementations at a serious disadvantage. If we're
just talking about building Linux specific programs however, I can't
see a problem with the developer picking whichever tool best fits the
job, if that's C#/Mono then so be it.
