Re: [Dorset] laptop battery suppliers

2011-11-20 Thread John Palmer
Thanks to all who replied to my question. I eventually ordered a
battery from my local shop* which was cheaper than any I'd found on the
net and after a few days (in which I have religiously alternated full
charge and discharge) seems fine. For all I can see it's just like the
ones I was dubious about but it's good to have someone else take the
small risk /and/ ask less money !

[Dorset] laptop battery suppliers

2011-10-23 Thread John Palmer
There are several companies offering to sell laptop batteries on the net
but most are shy about stating their postal address which makes me
hesitant to deal with them. Can people name some sellers that they
think are reliable, or alternatively some they've had trouble with ?
Many thanks, John

I bought one from a .co.uk outfit only to find that the battery was
despatched from China.

That said it was delivered reasonably promptly and hasn't burst into
flames yet, so no complaints at the time of writing!

I am also certain that it would have been half the price of the genuine
article, had I been able to find said genuine article...

Here's a statistically insignificant sample.

I bought a generic battery for a Dell Inspiron 6000 from
www.laptopbatteryshop.co.uk recently -- it failed after a week, but they
refunded my money (minus the cost of return postage).

So instead I bought an even cheaper New Trent brand one from Amazon,
and it's been fine (at least the client hasn't complained).

cheers

My son bought a repalcement Thinkpad battery, and it looks like it is a
genuine replacement - I can't see any major differences from the
original, just one label in a different place. I don't know where he got
it, likely a shop in Guildford.

But, the new one like the old one, says it has only 33-34% capacity.
This is not a battery thing I think, but BIOS or thinkpad low level
firmware keeping a setting despite all efforts to reset and remeasure.
It was originally XP, but is now Ubuntu.
