Yes, I was there. I was told that I had to wait. After a few minutes I
re-loaded the page and was told the same thing. I was there from around
20:00 until after Peter's e-mail as I saw that come in while I was
waiting. It didn't say if there was anyone else there or not, or give
any useful information at all. I think was there for 20 minutes and
nothing happened.

It wasn’t so much that I was unaware of the changes, it was the fact that
Jitsi would not show others waiting in the lobby. If we were all sat there
waiting, and we could see each other, then I would have signed in with one
of my many suitable accounts.

I tried at least 3 times before finally getting in and we spoke about
the 'new' system. We closed early as we did not know that people had
been waiting! As Hugh said it was not helpful that we did not know
things had changed.

In future I'll try to join the meeting later.

It would seem that Jitsi will not notify others in the lobby when
lobbyMembersWaiting >1, which seems a bit weird. Everyone just sits there
thinking they are the only ones waiting for a moderator.

That almost certainly explains what happened last month.

My guess is Jitsi's new-ish requirement for a moderator to open a ‘room’
by authenticating delayed the start of the meeting. Meanwhile, everyone
is kept waiting for a moderator to arrive and some give up before he
does.

Presumably, you're are normally the moderator when you attend and so
it's a surprise to the others that it's required and one of them has to
finally take it on for the meeting to start?

I thought by raising the issue, other attendees might be more aware of
the requirement and step in when you're not there.

I think it is still a requirement, e.g. Tim W. arrives by bus.
CAMRA's site does offer a ‘near bus routes’ filter IIRC.

September isn't far away, perhaps only two months until subs are due if
it's the start of the month, so I'd have thought the time to begin the
search is upon us.

Not so many pubs around Wimborne these days. :(
I thought one of the criteria for the location was bus availability. Is this
not so much of a problem these days?

That link played havoc with my Android phone. First it refused to let me
proceed unless I allowed notifications. When I backed out of the page I got
dire warnings about my phone being infected with a virus and inviting me to
click on a link to clean it up (clean up my bank account was probably more
likely).

Anyway, I didn't and my phone's virus scanner confirmed that there was nothing
untoward.

So others who may be reading this list on a non-Linux machine; be warned!

And Yes. There certainly do seem to be benches there, so I think we should be
able to avoid the screaming hordes if need be

I couldn't see one on Google Maps:

When we first went there was a half-promise of the use of another room on busy
nights,
but the barmaid who said that has just left.

I just phoned up, the charge for a function room is £80 ;-(

However, I expect the rest of the BEC membership will be there, so

Plan to be there.

Anyone got a USB wireless dual band adapter that works 'out of the box'
on Mint 17.3 to test.
I've tried 2 adapters neither worked. Am returning the TP-Link T2U to
Novatech as they provided it last week, just waiting for the return note
info.
My laptop only has single 2.4MHz and the router is dual 2.5/5MHz. Signal
strength is around 30-50 percent even in the same room as router. Want
to try getting a higher signal strength and wondered if the 5MHz would
be better.

Any suggestions please?

Re: [Dorset] Next Meeting - One Week Tonight

2013-08-03 Thread Natalie Hooper
Sadly, I won't be able to make the next meeting as I am currently working
up in London during the week.

@Victor/Peter: CyanogenMod is the biggest non official provider of Android
roms and is quite reliable http://www.cyanogenmod.org/

@Victor: Samsung Galaxy Ace phone is on the list of officially supported
devices by CyanogenMod http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Cooper_Info. However,
even then, you should research this before installing anything because the
official guide says it assumes Android 2.3 is running on the phone, but you
said yours is only Android 2.2..

@Peter: Archos 7 isn't on the list of officially supported devices by
CyanogenMod but nonetheless, some CyanogenMod roms are reported to work on
it. Your best bet is to search through the Archos fans support forums
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewforum.php?f=59sid=2768886dc1224bf3e8490bfea247c1a2.
An example thread discussing this is

Thanks Natalie ... I had just done a little looking around and come across
CyanogenMod so it's good to hear you cite it.

Sadly I won't be here either on Tuesday; I have to be in Chippenham three
days this week and am staying over. Next time...

(Minor niggle - does anyone else find it irritating that GMail combines a
top-posting layout with hiding the original message, so you have to
explicitly un-hide it before you can cut it?)
