Re: [Dovecot] dovecot: Fatal: Time just moved backwards by 3603seconds.
OK, I admit I am new to LINUX, so please help me in setting up my server as NTP client. In the past, I have had the same problem where the time moved backward. In my case I have only 1 server on which I run everything. Currently this server is setup to synchronize time using the NETWORK TIME PROTOCOL (application which comes with CentOS). So here is my question: How do I setup this one server as NTP Client? You can point me to a location the NET, where I can read and set it up myself! I had the same problem; I wasn't aware of the fact that dovecot would be sensitive to time going backwards. I was running ntpdate via cron, and the first time the time-check resulted in backwards correction, dovecot bombed. Unless the drift is great and frequent it's not a hardware clock problem as generally the clocks on the PC motherboard drift, and the drift doesn't have to be much when it's to the "wrong" direction (as far as dovecot is concerned). The way ntp handles the correction is very gracefulby speeding up or slowing down the clock (or stepping for greater corrections)that it's recommended even on systems that don't run dovecot. If the drifts are generally nominal, it might be a good idea to use -x (--slew) option to allow adjustment of the common few second corrections more gradually without stepping. Without the "-x" option slew is limited to ±0.128 second corrections and time is stepped even for, say, 3 second corrections. With -x one second correction is completed in about 33 minutes, and greater corrections (up to 600 seconds) take thus days to complete, so the -x option is not good for systems with bad clocks :-). Re: [Dovecot] Error - Dovecot Permission denied
Hello: Since I posted this original messages, I have installed, re-installed Postfix-2.3.3, Dovecot-1.1.1 & Dovecot-Sieve-1.1.5 over and over & still got the "Permission Denied" error (see "/var/log/maillog" logs below). Here what I found! If I add the following in "/etc/postfix/main.cf"; Mailbox_command = /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver Then the "Permission Denied" error appears and all mail is bounced back with error message. If I remove this line, all emails are delivered fine. No error. This problem started when I switched dovecot from Ver# 1.0.7 to 1.1.1 So my question is: (1) has something changed in Dovecot V# 1.1.1 to cause this error? (2) what if I leave this line out? Would it cause problem with either Dovecot or Dovecot-Sieve? (3) Any other solution. FYI, I have already included Postfix, Dovecot & Dovecot-Sieve configuration in my previous post. HELP. [Dovecot] Dovecot LDA with Postfix - question?
Hello: CentOS 5.2 Postfix 2.3.3 (part of CentOS install) Dovecot 1.0.7 (part of CentOS install) Dovecot 1.1.1 (Updated from www.atrpms.net) Postfix & Dovecot are working fine. While reading "Dovecot LDA with Postfix" document at http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Postfix , I read the following statement: - Dovecot LDA with Postfix System users If you wish you use deliver for all system users on a single domain mail host you can do it by editing mailbox_command parameter in /etc/postfix/main.cf (postconf(5)): mailbox_command = /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver # or mailbox_command = /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver # or mailbox_command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver # or wherever it was installed in your system. Then run postfix reload and that is it. - Here is the problem; I do not find location of ".../dovecot/deliver" anywhere on the system! 1. Did I do any mistake during the Postfix and/or Dovecot install/configuration? 2. Next, I plan to install "Dovecot-Sieve". Do I need the "mailbox_command" for "Dovecot-Sieve" to work? Kirti

Is this running in a virtual machine. I don't see any complete logs of a single message that should have resulted in a vacation message. Also, dovecot -n and postconf -n output might help too...

Re: [Dovecot] Vacation?
Hello All: After all the responses I received on this post, I installed 'Vacation' as follows: -Download Sieve Plugin from http://www.dovecot.org/download.html into 'Desktop'. -Compile Sieve Plugin with Dovecot: % cd Desktop % tar zxfv dovecot-sieve-?.?.?.tar.gz % cd dovecot-sieve-?.?.? % ./configure --with-dovecot=../dovecot-?.?.? Note: We have the find the V# of Dovecot! % make % make install -Edit '/etc/dovecot.conf': protocol lda { mail_plugins= cmusieve } -Create a file ".dovecot.sieve" in '/home/test/' & add the following in this file: --- require ["fileinto", "vacation"]; # Move spam to spam folder if exists "X-Spam-Flag" { fileinto "spam"; # Stop here so that we do not reply on spams stop; } vacation # Reply at most once a day to a same sender :days 1 :subject "Out of office reply" # List of recipient addresses which are included in the auto replying. # If a mail's recipient is not on this list, no vacation reply is sent for it. :addresses [EMAIL PROTECTED] "I'm out of office, please contact Joan Doe instead. Best regards Test Msg"; -Restart 'httpd'. --- Results: I do not receive 'Auto Response'. Can somebody look at the above and see what am I doing wrong? I have also tried by adding the above file into '/home/test/Maildir/' without success. This is my first install of 'Vacation'. Thanks. Kirti
Re: [Dovecot] Certificate Server name! - I may have found the Answer
Hello All: I may have found the answer. However, the credit goes to everyone who responded. Here is what I have discovered: "etc/pki/dovecot/dovecot-openSSL.conf" has the information regarding creating a certificate used by Dovecot. This file may be updated to correct this problem. I am going to look into it. Thanks all. Hi Kirt, Right in that case, the installation of Dovecot has somewhere created a certificate with "imap.example.com" as the common name (CN.) I'm afraid I cannot help further as I don't use SSL in Dovecot, however what I'll say is lookup how to create a certificate in OpenSSL. Perhaps someone else can advise how to create and configure a certificate to use with Dovecot. Andy kbajwa wrote: > I previously posted this message and made a type mistake. [Dovecot] Certificate Server name!
I previously posted this message and made a type mistake. I wrote "imap.tib.com instead it should red "imap.example.com". I have corrected the message and am reposting it. SORRY. - Setup of Dovecot went smoothly. Now when I try to retrieve mail from the server, I get the following message: Security Error: Domain name mismatch You have attempted to establish a connection to "mail.tib.com" However, the security certificate presented belongs to "imap.example.com". How to fix this message? Thanks in advance. Kirt
Re: [Dovecot] Certificate Server name!
OK. Can you tell me where I entered "mail.tib.com" server name when I created a certificate? I do not remember. The only place I can think of is in /etc/postfix: myhostname = mail.tib.com However, I did go back & changed it to: myhostname = imap.tib.com but the message did not go away! Do I need to recreate the certificate? If yes, then how is it done? I think I just installed & setup Postfix, Dovecot, but did not physically created a certificate. Is the certificate automatically created, from information in /etc/postfix/main.cf, when Dovecot is setup? If that is the case, I can uninstall Dovecot & re-install it unless there is an easy way. Did I mention that I am pretty new to Postfix & Dovecot (and LINUX in general). Thanks. Hi Kirt, Easy! Either connect to imap.tib.com instead of mail.tib.com, or create and install a new security certificate on the server which is for mail.tib.com instead. It's as simple as the message says - you've said your mail server is called "mail.tib.com" but your installed security certificate is for "imap.tib.com." Re: [Dovecot] Vacation?
I tried installing Dovecot Sieve Plugin. When I enter the command: % ./configure --with-dovecot=../dovecot-1.0.7 I get the error: Error: C processor "lib/cpp" fails sanity check. I think the problem may be that I am installing wrong version of Dovecot-Sieve-Plugin. Here is my system, just in case I am right: CentOS 5.1 postfix-2.3.3 (Note) dovecot-1.0.7 (Note) dovecot-sieve-1.1.5 Note: Both postfix & dovecot are installed from CentOS 5.1 distro. I am sure that there are also updates. Can somebody help with this problem? I am pretty GREEN, therefore, if you can provide with 4-5 installation lines, I will really appreciate it. Thanks. [Dovecot] Vacation?
CentOS 5.1 Dovecot & Postfix (part of CentOS install & updated) I understand that there is a package which is part of Dovecot to handle "Auto Responses" known as Vacation. Where I can find more info on this package & especially how to install & configure it? Thanks Kirt
