Thanks Timo. Unfortunately we're using the packaged Debian version (2.1.7)
and the current version of mailbox-list-fs-iter.c is a bit too different
to apply that patch (but thanks for the very quick response).

v2.1.14 has some bugfix related to this.. Also I couldn't reproduce it anymore,
so probably fixed.

What v2.x exactly? Looks like a bug. Probably fixed in a newer version.
If you already have a recent v2.1, show your doveconf -n.

Our mail server is running with mbox files. Whenever I want to create
a folder that is designated to contain subfolders, its (the folder's)
name needs to end with a trailing slash. Tested with Thunderbird and Outlook.

Hi,

Thnx for the replies. I am using 1.0.2 and mbox, but from which option
you choose that this folder will have subfolders or will it contain only
files ?? I used the New SubFolder Option.

Dovecot with thunderbird only seems to support sub folders if you are
using

maildir type mailstores. I don't think it will work if using mbox.

Not true. I use Thunderbird as my mail client, and create
subfolders... I use mbox. (Though I intend to convert to maildir
eventually)
When you create a folder, you have to decide whether the folder will
contain messages only, or other folders. Folders and mesages can not
be contained in the same folder.

I'm using dovecot-1.0.3 and TB-2.0.0.6 and I can create folder and
subfolder without any problem.

When you create a new folder named "foo", for example, using TB does the
".foo" directory comes up into your maildir?

AFAIK it does that by default. Your MUA should be able to create new
