[DQSD-Users] make configureDQSD use the editor set in configureEditorExe

2004-06-18 Thread Sarah Sweeney
I just found the configureDQSD search, and I'd like to use it, except
that when I click on one of the items in the menu, they open in Notepad
instead of HomeSite+, which I set with the configureEditorExe
preference. I've got it set as:
configureEditorExe=C:\\program files\\HomeSite+\\HomeSite+.exe;
Is there something wrong with this string that might cause this problem?

TIA

Shawn,

The reverse dictionary is a beta feature on the OneLook site. Should it
still be added to the current OneLook search? I'm not quite sure how to
do this, since it's actually a separate form.

OneLook was already in DQSD as 'olk' - does the one you created
provide any additional abilities? If so, I think it would probably be
better to integrate them or replace one for the other.

Re: [DQSD-Users] Open in new window broken in non ie ?

2004-02-06 Thread Sarah Sweeney
I use the Tabbrowser Extensions extension in Firebird to force links to
open in the same Firebird window, but in new tabs. It's kind of an
extreme solution to the problem, but it does work. (Of course, it means
that even popup windows open in the same window as a new tab, which is
weird, but, whatever...)

Anyway, I do think it would be nice if there was a way to do this
without forcing the single window, but if it's just Windows being a
jerk, I can live with it :)

receive multiple emails with embedded links to the same webpage. The link
specifies a target for the web page, but unless IE is your default browser,

This problem has been bugging me for a while. In my LocalAliases I have
reuseBrowserWindowMode = 0 and my launchmode=2 as my web browser is
Mozilla

firebird.

All searches are opened in the current window, I usually have to press the
back button and open a new tab and run the dqsd search. Ideally of course
I

would like the search to open in a new tab but that's browser specific
perhaps, I would be quiet happy if it opened in a new copy of the browser
as

intended.

I have tested this with IE (launchmode=0) to confirm my system is allright
and it of course works fine.
Is this bug a browser specific one? Can anyone confirm it works on
another

browser other than IE?

Thanks for checking.

Cheers - Tom.

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday

RE: [DQSD-Users] RE: Problem with maximized.html file

2003-06-05 Thread Sarah Sweeney
Kim,

Maybe I am missing something, but how does this take care of the bug? As
far as I can tell, this is just not using maximized.htm at all, instead of
fixing the error which occurs when you do use maximized.htm. Sorry if I am
just being dense :)

Sarah

Hi Paul,

There's a bug in 3.1.6.0 that causes this error to surface. I couldn't
find my previous reply in the archives, so I'll paste it here:
I just figured out a way to configure the bug away, so to speak.

It only appears if:

a) launchmode is 0
b) pagetemplate is maximized.htm
So, adding the following to localprefs.js should help:

snip
/* Browser launch mode
*  0=use IE
*  1=use default browser
* 2=auto (launches in IE directly if IE is default browser)
[default]
*/
launchmode=2;
/* Page template to use to initialize search results window
* Used only when launching in IE. Set pagetemplate to
maximized.htm to
maximize results.
* With things set up as is currently, reuses the browser size
that was
most recently closed.
*/
pagetemplate=;
/snip
Incidentally, these are the defaults, I just copied them from my
preferences.js, so you could just remove them from your
localprefs.js,
where they are likely overridden.
This is fixed in the CVS repository, so if you desperately need to use
the functionality, you can always get defer_tools.js from
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/defer_tools.js.
You can just click download at the top of the listing, and save the new
file to your DQSD directory. Restart after replacing the file.

   Hi All,
I just downloaded and installed this product and its
awesome. However, there seems to be a problem with making the
search results maximized. Config says to just input
maximized.html into the variable and it will always max the
screen. However when I do that and reload, an error pops up
stating that the var url is undefined on serach.html page.

   Any ideas?

[DQSD-Users] new function to convert case of a string (lower, upper, caps)

Hello!

I have been using Dreamweaver MX at work for a while, and it was driving me
nuts that it has no Change Case function, so if I ever had a lot of text I
wanted changed, I would have to open some other program to do it. Finally I
decided to create a function and put it into DQSD to do this for me. I have
attached ccase.xml which, using switches, allows for converting to
Capitalized, lowercase, or UPPERCASE. Comments are welcome!

The line number is _never_ right, AFAICT.

Usually it's the line after the one with the error on it, and whichever
file it occurs in, it's always reported as search.htm.

Unfortunately, I can't find any reference to 'undefined' on any relevant
line in any HTM or JS file in my DQSD directory.

(I'm doing findstr /i /n undefined *.js *.htm at a command prompt - perhaps
you could try this if you're on W2K or XP?)

I have all the local files, the same ones I've been using for the last
several betas.

Could you move them all somewhere else, and see if it makes a difference.

It might be that the fault only happens if some preference is set, and
obviously you're overriding the default preferences.

Cheers,

Will

Deskbar\dqsdt258.dll", which seemed to work, but as it didn't fix the problem I
decided to try restarting. After that, the text box in the quick search toolbar
just doesn't show up at all (the toolbar is
empty).

  ok, here's a strange one...

on Friday at work on a win2k, i.e. 6 machine,
  i closed 2.5.8 beta 8 and logged off/on
  then i installed
  and opened 2.5.8 beta 9

  i had no problems.dqsd ran
fine. todaywhen i turned my pc on the text areafor the
toolbar was the samegray color as my taskbar and i was unable to type in
  it.

  after several closes/reboots/reinstalls the only
thing i could get to work was to reinstall 2.5.8 beta8. any
  ideas?

  thanks,
  JB

Oops. Same here. Once I rebooted again, I had to close and open the toolbar
(a couple of times actually) to get it to work. On the bright side, at least
it's not totally broken. BTW, I am also on a Win2K, IE6 machine.

I'm not seeing this, but it is the behaviour you get if the window.close()
I put in version.js fires. Normally there's a message box displayed first
as a warning (under IE6, at least), but I wonder if something's happening
during boot to suppress messages from the script.

Could you try removing the window.close() from version.js and seeing if
the
 problem still occurs?

[DQSD-Users] MRU menu items do not update

2002-06-09 Thread Sarah Sweeney

I've noticed that my MRU menu items do not update when I perform
searches. Is there another setting, besides menuMRUlength, which needs
to be set in order for this functionality to work?

TIA

[DQSD-Users] RE: Errors with clean install of version 2.58 beta 8

2002-06-06 Thread Sarah Sweeney

Glenn Dan,

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I tried the regsvr32 command,
and in doing so, I realized that I did not have ANY dqsd dll file in the
install directory (who knows how that happened). So anyway, I closed the
toolbar, logged off/on, uninstalled the toolbar, logged off/on,
installed the toolbar (2.58 beta 8), logged off/on, put in my local
files (localaliases.txt, etc), logged off/on, then tested it. It is now
working fine! Knock on wood... I am so happy - THANK YOU!! (Now if I can
just get it to work on my Win2K machine at work...)

[DQSD-Users] Some suggestions and a bunch of new searches (esp. for Canadians)

2002-06-06 Thread Sarah Sweeney

Hello, everyone!

I am so happy now that my deskbar is working again! So of course I now
have to make some suggestions:

- Is it possible to make all searches open in a maximized browser
window? Someone else mentioned this earlier today, but I wanted to say
that I am also highly in favour of this, if it is possible. (I did try
to make some changes to search.htm to see if I could get this working on
my own, but I believe my JavaScript skills were simply not robust enough
to get the job done.)

- When I change one of the aliases (e.g. having ; go to the Merriam
Webster Thesaurus, instead of Thesaurus.com), the help file still lists
that alias under its original search, as well as under the search I want
it to point to. I guess it isn't a huge problem, but it can get a bit
confusing.

Any help/feedback on these suggestions will be much appreciated.

I would also like to contribute the searches I have created for my own
use. First, let me say that my JavaScript skills are a bit rusty, so
these are pretty much all adaptations of other searches, and so they
might not be optimized (especially the phone number ones, because I am
stumped so far by regular expressions) - again, any
suggestions/corrections are very welcome.

- rt, rotten tomatoes - for looking up movie info and reviews

- ar, all recipes - for looking up recipes

- ul, snopes urban legends - for looking up (you guessed it) urban
legends, as well as email hoaxes and rumours, etc

And some searches with a Canadian flavour:

- chap, chapters/indigo - shop for books, DVD's, etc

- twn, the weather network - look up your weather forecast by city

- is, isb, isc, isp, ispb, infospace phone number lookups - these 5
should probably be consolidated into 2 searches, using switches

I have attached these to the message.

Thanks again for your help yesterday and today, and thanks in advance
for any help in the future. Kudos to everyone who has contributed!!

Sarah

[DQSD-Users] Errors with clean install of version 2.58 beta 8

2002-06-05 Thread Sarah Sweeney

Hello all,

I have been using the deskbar for a few months now, and loving it more
and more each day. I have created some of my own searches, and
customized it quite a bit. I have been following the discussion groups
for a while now, too. As I was reading the messages about version 2.58
beta 8, I could tell that it has some new features that I would really
like. So I installed it yesterday - I did a totally clean install, as
per the instructions mentioned, numerous times, in the discussion group
:) After I installed it, everything seemed to be going OK, I was able to
customize it again, add my searches again, etc. I performed several
searches and functions, and everything seemed to be going great.
Unfortunately, when I turned my computer back on this morning, I
received the following error message:
Unable to instantiate DQSDTools.Launcher:
Automation server can't create object

I clicked OK, then got this error message:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 761
Char: 3
Error: Automation server can't create object
Code: 0
URL:file://C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\search.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

When I try to run a search (any search), I get this error message:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 90
Char: 5
Error: Exception thrown and not caught
Code: 0
URL:file://C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\search.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

And when I click on the menu button, I get this error message:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 149
Char: 3
Error: Automation server can't create object
Code: 0
URL:file://C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\search.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

I checked line 761, and that seems to be where the ActiveX object
DQSDTools.Launcher is instantiated. But I don't know anything about
ActiveX, and my JavaScript is a little rusty, so I don't have any idea
how to fix the problem.

I would REALLY appreciate any help in fixing this error. I feel lost
without the deskbar, and I don't want to have to give up and go back to
version 2.57!

TIA,

Sarah
