Re: [DQSD-Users] Open in new window broken in non ie ?
I use the Tabbrowser Extensions extension in Firebird to force links to open in the same Firebird window, but in new tabs. It's kind of an extreme solution to the problem, but it does work. (Of course, it means that even popup windows open in the same window as a new tab, which is weird, but, whatever...) Anyway, I do think it would be nice if there was a way to do this without forcing the single window, but if it's just Windows being a jerk, I can live with it :) Sarah Monty Scroggins wrote: hmmm its interesting you are having problems getting DQSD to open in *new* windows.. I have other instances where I receive multiple emails with embedded links to the same webpage. The link specifies a target for the web page, but unless IE is your default browser, a new window is opened every time.. This is even the case for IE variants (Netcaptor, MyIE etc).. I cant explain it, but it seems that windows (at least win2k) isnt playing nicely with any browser other than vanilla IE.. RE: [DQSD-Users] RE: Problem with maximized.html file
Kim, Maybe I am missing something, but how does this take care of the bug? As far as I can tell, this is just not using maximized.htm at all, instead of fixing the error which occurs when you do use maximized.htm. Sorry if I am just being dense :) Sarah At 09:33 AM 06/05/2003, you wrote: Hi Paul, There's a bug in 3.1.6.0 that causes this error to surface. I couldn't find my previous reply in the archives, so I'll paste it here: I just figured out a way to configure the bug away, so to speak. It only appears if: a) launchmode is 0 b) pagetemplate is maximized.htm So, adding the following to localprefs.js should help: snip /* Browser launch mode * 0=use IE * 1=use default browser * 2=auto (launches in IE directly if IE is default browser) [default] */ launchmode=2; /* Page template to use to initialize search results window * Used only when launching in IE. Set pagetemplate to maximized.htm to maximize results. * With things set up as is currently, reuses the browser size that was most recently closed. */ pagetemplate=; /snip Incidentally, these are the defaults, I just copied them from my preferences.js, so you could just remove them from your localprefs.js, where they are likely overridden. This is fixed in the CVS repository, so if you desperately need to use the functionality, you can always get defer_tools.js from http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/defer_tools.js. I tried the regsvr32 command, and in doing so, I realized that I did not have ANY dqsd dll file in the install directory (who knows how that happened). So anyway, I closed the toolbar, logged off/on, uninstalled the toolbar, logged off/on, installed the toolbar (2.58 beta 8), logged off/on, put in my local files (localaliases.txt, etc), logged off/on, then tested it. It is now working fine! Knock on wood... I am so happy - THANK YOU!! (Now if I can just get it to work on my Win2K machine at work...) [DQSD-Users] Some suggestions and a bunch of new searches (esp. for Canadians)
Hello, everyone! I am so happy now that my deskbar is working again! So of course I now have to make some suggestions: - Is it possible to make all searches open in a maximized browser window? Someone else mentioned this earlier today, but I wanted to say that I am also highly in favour of this, if it is possible. (I did try to make some changes to search.htm to see if I could get this working on my own, but I believe my JavaScript skills were simply not robust enough to get the job done.) - When I change one of the aliases (e.g. having ; go to the Merriam Webster Thesaurus, instead of Thesaurus.com), the help file still lists that alias under its original search, as well as under the search I want it to point to. I guess it isn't a huge problem, but it can get a bit confusing. Any help/feedback on these suggestions will be much appreciated. I would also like to contribute the searches I have created for my own use. First, let me say that my JavaScript skills are a bit rusty, so these are pretty much all adaptations of other searches, and so they might not be optimized (especially the phone number ones, because I am stumped so far by regular expressions) - again, any suggestions/corrections are very welcome. - rt, rotten tomatoes - for looking up movie info and reviews - ar, all recipes - for looking up recipes - ul, snopes urban legends - for looking up (you guessed it) urban legends, as well as email hoaxes and rumours, etc And some searches with a Canadian flavour: - chap, chapters/indigo - shop for books, DVD's, etc - twn, the weather network - look up your weather forecast by city - is, isb, isc, isp, ispb, infospace phone number lookups - these 5 should probably be consolidated into 2 searches, using switches I have attached these to the message. Thanks again for your help yesterday and today, and thanks in advance for any help in the future. Kudos to everyone who has contributed!! [DQSD-Users] Errors with clean install of version 2.58 beta 8
Hello all, I have been using the deskbar for a few months now, and loving it more and more each day. I have created some of my own searches, and customized it quite a bit. I have been following the discussion groups for a while now, too. As I was reading the messages about version 2.58 beta 8, I could tell that it has some new features that I would really like. So I installed it yesterday - I did a totally clean install, as per the instructions mentioned, numerous times, in the discussion group :) After I installed it, everything seemed to be going OK, I was able to customize it again, add my searches again, etc. I performed several searches and functions, and everything seemed to be going great. Unfortunately, when I turned my computer back on this morning, I received the following error message: Unable to instantiate DQSDTools.Launcher: Automation server can't create object I clicked OK, then got this error message: An error has occurred in the script on this page. Line: 761 Char: 3 Error: Automation server can't create object Code: 0 URL:file://C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\search.htm Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? When I try to run a search (any search), I get this error message: An error has occurred in the script on this page. Line: 90 Char: 5 Error: Exception thrown and not caught Code: 0 URL:file://C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\search.htm Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? And when I click on the menu button, I get this error message: An error has occurred in the script on this page. Line: 149 Char: 3 Error: Automation server can't create object Code: 0 URL:file://C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\search.htm Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? I checked line 761, and that seems to be where the ActiveX object DQSDTools.Launcher is instantiated. But I don't know anything about ActiveX, and my JavaScript is a little rusty, so I don't have any idea how to fix the problem. I would REALLY appreciate any help in fixing this error. I feel lost without the deskbar, and I don't want to have to give up and go back to version 2.57!
