[drakelist] R-4 Noise Blanker

2005-03-07 Thread Stephan Sever

This is my first posting to the drake list, hope I get
it right! I am having a problem with an R-4 receiver
in the noise blanker. The receiver has had a full
alignment done, and is working very well except when
the noise blanker is turned on. Signal strength is
reduced considerably and the incoming signals are very
distorted, the same effect as if the blanker threshold
was up too far. By doing some signal tracing with a
scope it seems the NB is working but is being
overdriven (for lack of a better term). All
resistances check good, but upon doing a voltage check
I had about +3V on pin 1 of V3 (12be6) instead of -11V
as the manual called for. I found C62
(12 pf) was open, but after changing it the voltage is
now at -.7V or so, not -11V. Still doesnt seem like
enough negative bias on V3 and the noise blanker still
isn't functioning properly. If anyone has any
suggestions or have had this problem before I would be
happy to hear from you. Many thanks and 73

Re: [drakelist] Replacement speaker for the MS-4???

Hello Phil.

I am not sure how much this will help but a few years ago (5 maybe) someone
posted to this list saying that the Radio Shack 40-1261 speaker 5"x7" was a
good replacement. Unfortunately Radio Shack discontinued it not too long
after that. You might be able to find one somewhere or a good quality 5x7
from MCM or Parts Express and others might make a good replacement speaker
for the MS-4.

Good Luck.

[drakelist] B line main tuning knob inserts.

2005-03-07 Thread Gerry

I just want to pass along how pleased I am with the KC9YS inserts. They have
the same look and finish as the originals and really spruce up that old B
line. They may be a bit pricy but let's be realistic about this: how much
would you pay for a good B line knob these days? Thought I'd have to "fish
around" the auction place and pay ridiculously high prices for a pair of
knobs when I found this particular source on the WB4HFN web site. Because
everyone else does it these days, let me state that I don't know Alan,
KC9YS. I'm just very happy with his product.

[drakelist] TR-3 PTO Now working !!!!!!

2005-03-07 Thread Jim Theisen

Thanks to Bill Frost and Garey Barrel pointing out
the jumper. So simple. I could not get the low resistance on pin 7 and had no
idea that that wire jumper was the problem. I just need a xtal for the 40
meter band and I am in business. The schematic is very poor in showing the
connection. However it also shows you need read read read the
manual.

Thanks so much for the

[drakelist] T4XB, slight carrier and hum

2005-03-07 Thread john_k7fd

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterence to the drakelist gang

Hi everyone,

My T4XB still appears to have some hum (and carrier) when I press the PTT and
listen in another receiver. I assume there should be a slight amount of carrier
that can't be nulled out completely.

As far as the hum, the AC4 has all new caps and the 60mfd and 10mfd caps have
been changed in the T4XB. Where next would be a logical culprit? I see a .47
cap in there...hmmm

Thanks for any advice!

[drakelist] Illuminating the panel meter (MN-7, MN-2700 antenna tuners)

2005-03-07 Thread ICDI Dave

I would like to add a 12.6 vdc mini-lamp behind the
large meter on the MN-7 and MN-2700 tuners.  But when I took the case off,
I found that these meters have solid black plastic/bakelite
backs, with no capability for adding illumination.  Anyone fooled
around with this challenge? Any suggestions?  Perhaps there is a replacement swr meter I might substitute?  Appreciate any leads

[drakelist] Need Drake PTO Assembly

2005-03-07 Thread Peter Hoon

"Peter Hoon" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> made an utterence to the drakelist gang

Hello,

Would like to purchase either a Drake R4A, R4B, R4C, T4X, T4XB, T4XC or TR7
PTO assembly in working or non working condition, as long as mechanical
assembly is OK.

Would also consider a defective R4A or R4A junker with a clean front panel
and good PTO mechanics.

Electronics can be defective; need not be working.

Tks,

Peter in Nederland, Colorado
