[drakelist] WANTED

2007-12-14 Thread cstoverva
I am restoring a 2NT transmitter. Right now my shopping list is short. Here's
what I need so far...

1)5K ohm 5 Watt pot. Power control in the final
screen grid circuit.(this one is frozen stiff)

2)Clip on socket for the #47 lamp used to
illuminate the meter. (for some reason removed
 this unit)

3)1 small knob or just the chrome insert. One
insert missing from one of the knobs.

4)Crystals. I'd rather use crystals than a VFO of
some type to make this a historically accurate
 novice station.

I
haven't been able to fire this thing up yet, so the list may grow. If
anyone out there can help me with these items I would be grateful.

Thanks.

73, Chuck K4QS

Thank you all very much.

Here was the motivation for the experiment...

I just recently purchased a TR-3/RV-3/AC-3/W-7 on eBay, and the
the shopping costs were shown as $44.00. I assumed, since I had
know reason to think otherwise, this what what the seller specified
for shipping charges. I was a little surprised when the actual
shipping charges came in at $120.00. (I have always sold items
specifying the buyer will bay the actual shipping charges.)

We agreed to split the difference (of $44 and $120) and all went
well. However, I got to thinking the shipping costs might be
generated by eBay. It appears this is the case.

So I just sent the seller the remaining shipping amount to make sure
everything was square; and he did not get the short end of eBay's
friendly shipping cost estimate.

So I guess the bottom line is to make sure, if it is not explicitly
stated in the auction, to confirm with the seller what the actual
shipping costs are.

Thank you all for your time and help with my experiment.

Mark,

I have heard a lot of complaints about the shipping costs being excessive if
the seller uses the ebay shipping calculator. Many sellers have been made
aware of the discrepancy and tell bidders to disregard the shipping estimate
and that they will calculate the actual shipping cost when the auction is
over. It is always a good idea to question the shipping costs before
bidding. I don't think your seller lost any money on shipping. The estimated
shipping cost, if paid by the buyer would go directly to the sellers
account, not to ebay.

I am sure you have seen the shipping of $28.50 to ship two 6JB6's

to get a really good guess at the price, you need three things

1. how much does it weigh?
2. how far is it going?
3. size of the box

ok.. a forth one..

4. the shipping method and carrier

I just shipped an old ten tec omni to tex via fedex home and it costs

it weighted 21#

shipping information is via UPS, FEDEX, USPS, etc and is estimated by
furnishing the weight, dimensions, ship point, delivery point and special fees.
E-bay has nothing to do with the cost of shipping. They simply provide a method
for the buyer to use to view the cost that the seller has provided from the
shipping service. E-bay deserves a lot of slams, but this is not one of them.

Greetings.

I'm looking for a kind soul, with an eBay account, to look up the following:

 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=190182360471

which just happens to be a Drake TR-7; to keep things somewhat on topic.

I am interested in what you see shown for shipping costs. I'm in NH and it
shows $48.66.

Thanks in advance.

Your seller is rippng you off.

Actually, in this case he was just about dead on. Which is not to
say other sellers may be gouging.

I just ran the numbers through the UPS site and given the dimensions
and weights of the two packages, the cost comes out to just over $100
for UPS ground from California to New Hampshire.

BTW, the TR-3/RV-3/AC-3/WH-7 tipped the scales at just under 50 pounds
and was packaged (very poorly) in two boxes.

So all in all I think my little experiment was worth while for me, and
a little enlightening.

I believe the Ebay site actually links directly to the UPS
site for calculating the shipping costs. Always consider the
shipping costs as part of the overall cost of the item, and don't forget
the shipper may have to purchase cartons and packing material as well,
which, at least around me, is not inexpensive. I usually
underestimate the overall cost to ship, and short myself that way.
Maybe I'll start using the Ebay calculator!
