Hi Drakelist

Does anyone out there have a working original Erie 18.1 MHz crystal they
wish to sell? This is for the 40 Meter band.

I could order a new replacement but thought I would see if I could find a
working original first.

thanks

This product matches all of your selections.

Part Number:  91249A144  $5.28 per Pack of 100

Material Type:Stainless Steel, Finish: Black, Drive Style, Phillips,
6-32x1/4

The Phillips head screws are quite cheap, but beware of the regular screw
driver head...they are like $4-$5 each..

I personally prefer the phillips head, harder for the screw driver to slip
off and scratch the paint.

Dick,
McMaster-Carr had a RIDICULOUS price, like $5.60 EACH on the web site, and when
questioned, said that was the price, and checked correct. I gave up after
that. I am SURE that was for a box of 50 or 100, but couldn't get them to
budge. Just search for pan head, slotted 1/4, black oxide screws and you
should find them. They may have sobered up by now, but it didn't look good
for the Pakistani operatives answering their emails!!

The VOX delay in CW was never enough in my oppinion. The only way to increase

Guys,

I spoke with a McMaster-Carr sales rep on the telephone about this very
issue several months ago. He told me that the slotted screw is made from
specially hardened steel and was indeed $5-something EACH at the time.

Sure enough, the description does say Steel Type 4140 Hardened Alloy
Steel. Further down, it says Rockwell Hardness Minimum C40. These
screws are obviously for some special, probably military or space,
application.

The closest thing they have that is reasonably priced is the phillips
head version for which I paid $5.28 for a box of 100.

Note the prices have gone up a little, but I think the Keystone Screws

The drake screws are a 6-32 x 1/4 slotted pan head machine screw fully
threads black oxide.

I looked through several catalogs and finally found one in McMaster
Carr. But the price was shocking

I suppose it is the hard alloy that makes these pricey.

You can find a box of 100 zinc plated screws of similar type for about
2.50. Then paint them.

I did find a nice substitute in the Allied Electronics catalog

The following is a copy of an email I sent to the list back in Janurary.
Note the prices have gone up a little, but I think the Keystone Screws
from Allied Electronics would be a good one for this aplication (Allied
PN 839-9191) Price is about $12.43 per 100.

The drake screws are a 6-32 x 1/4 slotted pan head machine screw fully
threads black oxide.

I looked through several catalogs and finally found one in McMaster Carr.
But the price was shocking

McMaster Carr PN 94340A440
Hard Alloy Stl Pan Head Slotted Machine Screw Black-Oxide, 6-32 Thread,
1/4 Length

In stock at $6.04 Each

I suppose it is the hard alloy that makes these pricey.

You can find a box of 100 zinc plated screws of similar type for about
2.50. Then paint them.

I did find a nice substitute in the Allied Electronics catalog

a phillips flat head screw with a black painted head
6-32 x 1/4

There may be other sources. If I find any think close to the original
like the McMaster Carr version, but for less money I will post it to the

Guys,

I spoke with a McMaster-Carr sales rep on the telephone about this
very issue several months ago. He told me that the slotted screw is
made from specially hardened steel and was indeed $5-something EACH at
the time.

Dick,
McMaster-Carr had a RIDICULOUS price, like $5.60 EACH on the web
site, and when questioned, said that was the price, and checked
correct. I gave up after that. I am SURE that was for a box of 50
or 100, but couldn't get them to budge. Just search for pan head,
slotted 1/4, black oxide screws and you should find them. They may
have sobered up by now, but it didn't look good for the Pakistani
operatives answering their emails!!

Gee, and if I bought the 10,000 qty of the reasonably priced ones, I could
change out the screws in both the B and C lines yearly for 216 years, or
bi-anually for 108 years. That just might make it, HI HI. Sorry, Thom, we
get crazy when there's nothing to fix and Eddie hasn't reported back in
