Re: [Drakelist] Drake 2B Dial Glass Help
If you dont get any other info, I know how to make one. Basically a blank glass and a reverse image waterslide decal from inkjet/decal paper. Just need a scan of a 2b dial glass. Carl - Yep. If you don't have the original disc, (the print just washed off, etc.,) there is a good sub at the top and bottom of each 50 or 100 pack of blank CDs. It's a little oversize, but can be trimmed down on a lathe, or by chucking into a low speed drill and scribed with an X-Acto knife held against a solid rest. 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA Drake 2-B, 4-B, C-Line TR-4/C Service Supplement CDs www.k4oah.com gypsym...@aol.com wrote: cptc...@flash.net mailto:cptc...@flash.net writes: Curt said If you dont get any other info, I know how to make one. Re: [Drakelist] Drake Dial
Hello! I wonder if there is some market for Drake reproduction dials (transparent in a first attempt), identical to the original in shape, as I have some very nice material, 1 mm thick (and with protective plastic in both sides), which I could work with my CNC mill, making a perfectly fitting part, with all the holes and such. If someone provides me with a damaged disc, I could manufacture some samples. Any taker :-)? Best regards, JOSE At 20:03 27/01/2009, you wrote: Carl - Yep. Re: [Drakelist] Drake Dial
Jose - I don't know how big the market would be, but I've seen quite a few that have been discolored by exposure to sunlight. They turn a dark brown. There are at least four different dials for the twins, and at least two for the TR-3/4 series. The originals are 1.0 mm (0.040) thick, and 108 mm (4.25) dia. The center hole is 9.5 mm (3/8) dia 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA Drake 2-B, 4-B, C-Line TR-4/C Service Supplement CDs www.k4oah.com Jose V. Gavila wrote: Hello! Re: [Drakelist] Drake Dial
The disk idea from the cd blanks is a good idea. PLEASE be very careful if you do the drillpress or hand drill idea. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES - when that stuff shatters, it is like a razor knife whirling around. I think the original question was for the printed glass dial face on a 2B--of course round decals are just as easy to make. There are also companies that will make one-off dry rub transfers (like the letra-set) but all in the proper orientations so it can be transfered without mis-alignment. It is surprisingly inexpensive--we use them and the decals on one-off test instruments and the like. Curt KU8L Garey Barrell wrote: Carl - Yep. Jeff Covelli, WA8SAJ, wrote and a Hint (or a Kink?) in the February 2005QST, at page 72, describing making replacement dials. You can't download the article, but the League will sell it to you, if you want. I lost (or tossed) my QST copy, but I'd like to replace the dial on one of my R4B's.
