Re: [Drakelist] Hearing 2 PTOs at the same time?

2010-12-05 Thread Garey Barrell
The original cable was Belden 8421 Low Capacitance microphone shielded
wire. It was the same size and flexibility of the other 'audio' cables,
and about one-half the capacitance. RG-62 will work, but is MUCH
thicker, stiffer and damage prone if bent over too tight a radius. It's
also somewhat difficult to solder without melting the almost
non-existent dielectric. That said, it IS cheap, as many miles of it
was pulled out of attics (and many miles still remain!) as relics of
earlier computer networking systems.

The original cable, 38 long tip-to-tip, had a total capacitance of 60
pF. RG-59A/U will also work, but is about the same size as RG-62,
although it is considerably more flexible. A list member bought a
quantity of 8421 a while back, and may still have some. I think it's
still available by the foot from ACK in Atlanta, but everyone else wants
to sell you a 500' spool!

Also use good quality connectors, I prefer Switchcraft 3502. They have
a nice backshell that encourages you to pull on that rather than just
yank on the cable! :-)

Regardless of what cable you use, it's best to tweak up the INJ trimmers
on the receiver and transmitter with the two units cabled together.
This will provide the highest levels of received and transmitted signal
when in transceive mode. There is almost always a slight reduction in
the 'non-controlling' unit, but should be very little.

Yes, the INJ cable provided by Drake was a special, low
capacity cable, cleverly marked for 'INJ'. It will
definitely increase the transmitter output when
transceiving under RCVR control. Works the other way
too, received signals are louder when using XMTR control
as well.

I believe your 'double PTO' problem was just corrosion on
the 'non-INJ' cable's pins.

All's well that .

[Drakelist] Drake Low Pass Filters and other misc items FS

2010-12-05 Thread Ken Simpson, W8EK

Drake items for sale:

Drake TV-1000-LP Low pass TVI filter
This is the filter that is in the copper case, and may also be
used on the low end of six meters, as well as HF. It is a 50
ohm filter and is good for 1000 W below 30 MHz, and about 200 W
up to 52 MHz. With paper work for $30.

Drake TV-3300-LP Low Pass TVI Filter
This is a modern low pass filter to go between your transmitter
and antenna, and has been optimized to have more attenuation
in the 40 MHz region, where many TVs have their IF. It is good
for 1000 Watts average according to the manual, and has
over 80 db attenuation at 41 MHz. This one looks great, and
includes the paper work. $30

Case for Drake TR-33 C
This is the black case that fits the Drake TR-33 C, and has
cutouts in the back for antenna, power, etc. It includes
the shoulder strap, and is in good shape. $12

Case for Drake TR-22
As above, but for the TR-22. No shoulder strap. $10

3 pin mic plug for TR-22
This is the small 3 pin mic plug that fits the Drake TR-22
mic jack. It is much smaller than most of the mic connectors.
This one has been used, but should still be usable some more. $10

Prices do not include shipping from Florida.

Thanks.

[Drakelist] NEW! Service Supplement CD for R-4A / T-4X

2010-12-05 Thread Garey Barrell

I have received numerous requests for a CD covering the R-4A and T-4X.

Here it is!

Hopefully people have not given up, or the requests were not all from
the same person, but ...

This was not an easy one, since it seems there were quite a few changes
in the R-4A AFTER the last known schematic, 1026665400, requiring a
revised schematic. This CD is for the 11 tube version of the R-4A (s/n
4054 - 6999). The early version is 'coming', but I had to start
somewhere! The T-4X was also in a state of flux, as I have found three
distinct versions of the schematic, none dated or otherwise identified.
Of course both (now three) R-4A schematics are included, plus all three
(now four) T-4X schematics.

There are 58 pages, 32 of which are in high resolution color, in the
Service Manual. Along with the Manual directory with quality scans of
the C-4, L-4B, FS-4, MN-2000, W-4 and other original manuals, there are
the usual batch of miscellaneous files with field changes,
modifications, troubleshooting tips, etc.

All the previous CDs are still available too!

Garey,

Well, if it is anything even a fraction like the CD I have for my C line, it
will be worth its weight in gold. Thanks for supporting the Drake enthusiasts.

[Drakelist] Service CD's

2010-12-05 Thread Gypsymt34
To all, I have both the B line and the TR4c CD's and they are very easy
to work with and have material you don't have available anywhere else.
So if Garey say's he has the CD for R4A T4x if I had them I'd get it.
