[Drakelist] FS: Drake R-4 receiver and T-4x transmitter
Greetings to all Drakelist members and readers. Now downsizing so I am offering a part of my collection for your consideration. Both receiver and transmitter in very good condition. Virtually perfect front panels. Slight scuff on top rear of transmitter cabinet, not really noticeable. Exteriors on both about an 8.5. Very little copper corrosion on chassis. Both units serviced and tweaked by Gary Poland, W8PU. Original manual for the R-4 (the one that actually came with the receiver) and printed copy of T-4x manual. No AC-4. See listings at Drake Virtual Museum for specs on units and my Photobucket page for pix of these. Receiver $275, Transmitter $225, both together $475 plus shipping. http://www.dproducts.be/DRAKE_MUSEUM/r-4.htm http://www.dproducts.be/DRAKE_MUSEUM/t-4x.htm http://s272.photobucket.com/albums/jj167/wa0epw/ Michael J, Scanlan, WAØEPWSt. Paul, MN 55116651-698-1149___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist

Re: [Drakelist] drake net
Ron, Yes, there are two SSB nets devoted to Drake enthusiasts. One is the Drake Technical Net. It meets Sunday afternoon at 2000 hours Zulu, which is 4 pm Eastern time this season of the year. It meets on 7238. The other one is the Drake and Antique Tube Gear Net. It used to meet on 3865 but due to the foreign broadcast/noise we shifted the frequency to 3868 for the past several years. That frequency has since become occupied and the stations there may or may not refer check-ins to the frequency being used since we don't know which frequencies are free to use each week. Hence, there is no longer any firm frequency to find the net. It does meet on Tuesday evenings, at 8 pm Eastern time. It might be a little later depending on how long it takes to find an available frequency. Best to try tuning around +/- from 3868 and see where the net might be operating. Feel free to join the nets. All Drake enthusiasts are welcome. And don't forget the Drake Forum at the Dayton Hamvention, Saturday, 1030-1130, Room 2. 73, Evan, K9SQG -Original Message- From: tux man ronc...@verizon.net To: drakelist@zerobeat.net Sent: Sat, Apr 9, 2011 4:30 pm Subject: [Drakelist] drake net gang, Is the SSB net still active? [Drakelist] Crystals for 30 - 17 -12 meters
Are most of you who have the B-line transceiving with the T-4XB or R-4B or are you getting separate xtals for each? Also, do you know of any good sources for crystals? Thanks 73's Bill, WB9CAC___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
Re: [Drakelist] Crystals for 30 - 17 -12 meters
Bill - Transceive operation is great for SSB. For CW, not so much. One problem with the B Line and transceive is that it requires the 'Transceive Align' procedure be performed fairly regularly. Less so if the receiver and transmitter have the color coded crystals, AND they are both the same color. IF your rig is in a fairly well temperature controlled environment, and is allowed to warm up before use, the B-Line works quite well. Especially nowadays when most are using transceivers with RIT capabilities. I would say that 'most' SSB operation today is done in transceive, with of course the exception of split DX pileups. CW is a different story, as there is no 'right' frequency for a CW signal. Everyone likes a slightly different tone, and some even like to change the tone occasionally. So if you like 400 Hz and the other guy likes 600 Hz, AND neither uses RIT, they'll chase each other up and down the band retuning for their preferred tone. Separate operation works so much better, it only takes a second to SPOT and then you are free to move the receiver as you like. The best crystal supplier is International Crystal Mfg, (405) 236-3741 or www.icmfg.com. The owner is a ham, they've been making crystals 'forever', and all you have to tell them is the band and model radio you want them for. 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA Drake 2-B, 2-C/2-NT, 4-A, 4-B, C-Line and TR-4/C Service Supplement CDs www.k4oah.com Bill Ellis wrote: Are most of you who have the B-line transceiving with the T-4XB or R-4B or are you getting separate xtals for each? Re: [Drakelist] Crystals for 30 - 17 -12 meters
If I may add...Yes International has excellant service, seems they get the crystal 'ON' and they charge only $20.95 each...takes about 2 weeks to get them after ordering. I have got some used ones...paid $12.00 - $20.00 and they were OFF frequency more than I like...FWIW. So, new for me unless I know the guy and he says they are 'ON' 73, Lee -Original Message- From: Garey Barrell k4...@mindspring.com To: Drakelist Post drakelist@zerobeat.net Sent: Sat, Apr 9, 2011 5:56 pm Subject: Re: [Drakelist] Crystals for 30 - 17 -12 meters Bill - Transceive operation is great for SSB. Re: [Drakelist] TR-4 Crystal Filter
Today (and yesterday) I opened the TR-4 filter and replaced all the crystals with unselected DigiKey 50cent crystals. Now the dead filter does pass a signal but is not useful. Good learning fun though and I documented it some on the blog at http://pgerhardt.blogspot.com Ck it out if you want to see what is inside of the 'blue cans' Paul ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
