Re: [Drakelist] MN-2000

2011-08-19 Thread Kris Merschrod
Mike,

The MN-2000 is built like a tank, but adding for 160 is a real modification.
The WARC bnads, however are possible just by using the nearest band setting and
tuning - depends on the mismatch.

If only 300 watts or so is going into the tuner then go for the MN-4C to pick
up the 160 band - still need to fiddle for the WARC bands though.

Are there any articles out there on how to add 160 meters and the WARC bands
to an MN-2000? I really like the tuner and it looks great with the C line
stuff, but the lack of 160 and WARC bands requires me to also have an MN-2700

2011-08-19 Thread Curt Nixon

Yep..

I suppose it depends somewhat on the antenna, but my 40M OCF tunes with
the MN200 for all the WARC bands.

Again, depending on the antenna, it is certainly possible to use an
alternate feed out for the 160 setup and use an external inductor and/or
cap in series with the MN2000. I actually have done that for a bogus
longwire on 80M. Some number 12 house wire wrapped around a pc of 4 PVC.

I'm with kris on the mods...more expense than worth...complicated and
expensive. I actually thought about adding a roller inductor to my
MN2000 but not alot of front panel room with the wattmeter.

If you really must have an exact duplicate, if you have one good one,
you can use urethane casting resin. First, using the good part, you
make a mold set from silicone molding material, then cast the resin into
the mold. I have made duplicate keyboard caps for specialty industrial
automation keyboards for CNC machines this way and you can't tell the
difference. It would cost in the area of 50-75 bucks for a kit with all
materials required. Expensive but a perfect match.

Are these not the same push buttons used on the rest of the 7 line? They
should be plentiful. Who was looking for them?

Russ,
You have to do this one yourself. Info is given at the bottom of each email.
The unsubscribe must be done from the same email address that started the
process. It behooves us all to remember that when we change email addresses
(don't ask how I know this so well!!!).

[Drakelist] Padding below 1.6 Mhz

2011-08-19 Thread Neil M Califano
I am able to tune part of the medium wave band on the Drake R4A, but the
stations are weak even though they are powerful nearby broadcasters. I thought
I saw that the sensitivity is padded below 1.6 Mhz. Is this true on the Drake?
