Re: [Drakelist] What does Collector Condition mean to you
Sri to pick up this thread so late, IMHO Collector Condition: 1) there is a difference between original and restored. I'd prefer not restored. 2) practically un scuffed, un chipped paint on the cabinet - no additional holes please. 3) absolutely unblemished - not even finger tip burnishing of the front plate around a knob - now that is hard to find - hence collector interest. 4) off with the cover - a nice shinny chassis - mint would mean no spots of corrosion. 5) no modifications - not even Sherwood modifications. Or if they are there they can be removed, e.g. the common addition of a coax connector on the R-4 series through any of the standard holes on the back. 6) Ideally the rig would work ! :) Well, tube replacement might be needed, but that is it. Otherwise, if capacitors need replacing then Collector Cosmetically, but needs electronic work would be a better description. 7) wishy washy or backlash in the VFO - well that can be adjusted. Restored to original is an honest statement if the paint job really looks like the original of that model, but no polished up chassis blemishes, and not rewired in anyold way. The rating scale in Ron's website is a very useful guide, but the above is my opinion, and I have found a few. Sometimes you have make exceptions. I found a beautiful MN-4C, but someone had used a ballpoint pen to label the SWR/PWR button in out Aside from that it is close to perfect. I just admire it without the bright lights! [Drakelist] Microphone options
I use D-104 microphones for my Drake T-4X, and for various old rigs. Have three, two with original cartridges, the third rebuilt with a kit that included a kobitone cartridge. While it worked for awhile, yesterday while using it on AM with the T-4X the required transmitter gain was excessive, and people listening said audio was distorted. Replacing the microphone head with one of the others restored normal performance. This will be the third kobitone cartridge to fail. I'm wondering whether others have experience with other cartridges, like Heil for example, that might perform better. 73, Curt KB5JO ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
[Drakelist] Mic Options...
A couple years ago I replaced the cartridge in my 7075 with a Korbitone ... no issues to date. Several other people have used them with excellent results. I get great on air reports ... I have compared mics as I have a spare 7075 that gets used with the T4X-B and ... for some reason the Korbitone gets better reports ... go figure..! [Drakelist] Looking for a meter
HI all, My annual Christmas looking for. JUST the meter from an MN4c, MN75, MN7, MN2700 is what I am really looking for. A basket case of any of them, burned up, mutilated, dropped and bent up.??? I am not interested in a working unit. Anyone out there have a unit, that fits the description, that they want to dispose of? 73's Carl WD8NHK___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
Re: [Drakelist] Microphone options
Heil does indeed sell cartridges and microphones. HOWEVER, it is only at the Dayton Hamvention to my knowledge. The full product line is available from authorized dealers. I've had very favorable experiences with Heil and I hope everybody else does too. 73, Evan, K9SQG -Original Message- From: Don Cunningham d...@martineer.net To: rhulett1 rhule...@comcast.net; Drakelist Drakelist@zerobeat.net Sent: Mon, Dec 19, 2011 8:17 am Subject: Re: [Drakelist] Microphone options Unfortunately, Curt, unless you can find different areas of his site than I did, it appears that Bob Heil has decided to stop selling cartridges. That is unfortunate, in my humble opinion, as I read of others with the Kobitone failure problem you mention. I know of no other replacement cartridges of quality anymore if Heil has stopped the practice of selling cartridges. I hope my search was just faulty. 73, Don, WB5HAK ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist ___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist

[Drakelist] A Great Source for Real HC-6/U Crystals
Some of you guys may be interested in this source for boat anchor type crystals. IQ Electronic Design in the UK sells used as well as new crystals made to order just for you. Vincent Jakomin makes a few types but for our boat anchors, he makes real HC-6/U CRYSTALS. I recently had him make two 7160 khz crystals for me in these holders. I paid around $12 for each crystal and around $8.00 for postage to the US. Vincent's Paypal account accepts payment in US dollars and converts it into his needed UK pounds. His Paypal account is: vincent...@fsmail.net I'm sure he could make needed crystals for Drake gear in HC-6/U holde rs. As you know, over time, some of our old Drake crystals have drifted off frequency or have gone missing. These are not some small Asian crystal stuffed into an old FT-243 holder to appear to be a FT-243 crystal which chirp and could burn out in an old tube type transmitter. HC-6/U crystals can handle almost as much current as a real FT-243 crystal. Vince is a good guy selling quality crystals. His e-mail address for contact information is: vincent...@hotmail.co.uk Of course, if you buy a bunch of them, the cost of shipping per crystal will go down. I think Vincent's pricing is very fair and he accepts small orders. He needs around 2 weeks to fill his orders plus shipping time. I am very pleased with his product and service as one of his customers. Re: [Drakelist] A Great Source for Real HC-6/U Crystals
Lee, I'm really not understanding your posts I have seen on several venues today. There's not really a coorelation between the HC-6/U crystal and the FT-243, unless my old memory is worse than I think. Aren't those two separate types of crystals, different spacing, different pin size, etc??? As far as HC-6/U's go, you can buy them from International Crystal, in Oklahoma City for around $20 per crystal and know that they meet or exceed the original specs that Drake, Collins, etc used when these rigs were new. Why go to all the trouble of ordering overseas?? Now, if Vincent makes FT-243 type crystals, or HC-6/U types with FT-243 sized pins, then I DO understand and would be interested. I miss being able to buy C-W crystals since they went out of business. 73, Don, WB5HAK___ Drakelist mailing list Drakelist@zerobeat.net http://mailman.zerobeat.net/mailman/listinfo/drakelist
