Re: [Drakelist] Drakelist

2012-04-22 Thread Jim Shorney

The repeater owner has the right to decide who can use his hardware. He can't
stop anyone from talking simplex on his repeater frequency, but he can say who
can use his hardware. Free speech only exists to the extent that the owner of
the medium allows it.

Mailing lists are not democracies, they are controlled by the list *OWNER* and
moderators. That's the way it is. It's only a free speech issue in the same
sense that I can allow someone to place a sign in my yard for my favorite
political candidate, but forbid a sign for his opponent. Everyone can see it
from the street, but I decide the content. In that sense, it is my free speech
that is being expressed, and the repeater owner's, and Thom's. The list owner
owns the list, or they wouldn't call him that.

The slip side of that is the freee speech that we call "spam" doesn't get
through on a well-managed list.

I have only one comment to make, which may or may not be applicable. Sometimes
moderators on forums are like the Folks that are on condo boards. I have seen
this on several forums. It creates problems from the libertarian types. Free
speech should prevail. Some think the first amendment does not apply on the
Internet. I demur. On the forums no one regulates the regulators, so people
vote with their feet. This is similar to the FCC letting repeater operators
kick people off the repeater. They do not own the frequency any more than the
person that they disagree with. Who owns the Internet?

That being said, this moderator did not moderate anyone or ask him to leave.

What you may not realize, Thom, is that Garey and others (including myself)
that partake in other Drake lists/groups often refer new users to this
Drakelist as well. Free advertising, if you will. I don't think there's any
attemts to favor one list over another, but frankly, this list does seem to be
a bit buggy at times. I can understand the frustrations, I guess I just don't

Hi Thom.,

With all due respect, it seems that the main "raison d'etre" of the Drakelist

While I personally shall continue with my subscription to this Reflector, I

In response sent privately to Gary, I told him not to pollute the list.

Now, if you REALLY READ WHAT I SAID, it simply tells Gary not to
pollute the list with his

whines and endorsements of other lists. It does not say he could not post.

If you can't understand what I wrote, then I think you should leave
the list...since your comprehension skills

might be lacking.

In another post displaying lack of understanding of simple
declarative English, Gary said:

As a result of being 'uninvited' to post here on 'drakelist', I will be on

No one ever univited Gary to post herejust to stop polluting the list.

I'm giving Gary credit for misunderstanding...I would hate to think
it was a deliberate attempt to undermine the

community and cause confusion my mis-quotes.

If you don't accept the explanation, or can't understand it, or have
a knee-jerk reaction to leave because another
member took their marbles out of the game, please un-subscribe I

[Drakelist] Low Pass TVI Filters FS

2012-04-22 Thread Ken Simpson, W8EK

Drake Low Pass TVI Filters For Sale:

A low pass TVI filter is added to the transmitter to reduce
harmonic interference. All have SO-239 connectors, and are
50 ohm filters.

This first two work on 6 meters as well as HF:

Drake TV-1000-LP Low pass TVI filter
This is the filter that may also be used on the low end of six
meters, as well as HF. It is good for 1000 W "average" below
30MHz, and about 200 W up to 52 MHz. With paper work for $25.

Drake TV-1000
LP Filter as above, which functions fine electrically, but
looks ugly. With paper work. $20

Drake TV-3300-LP Low Pass Filter
This modern low pass filter has been optimized to have more
attenuation in the 40 MHz region, where many TVs have their
IF. It is good for 1000 Watts "average" according to the manual,
and has over 80 db attenuation at 41 MHz. This one looks great,
and includes the paper work. $30

Other Low Pass TVI Filters:

The Bud LF-601 works fine on six meters.

Bud LF-601 low pass filter
This filter is adjustable for best attenuation in your particular
situation, and also to more closely match your specific impedance.
It cuts off at about 52 MHz (if adjusted as such) so it can be
