[Drakelist] TR7 Dead Receive revisited

2010-10-10 Thread Drakedude

The TR7 is alive and well !!

Thanks for all the responses

Here's the dealI removed all the boards ,cleaned & de-ox-ed all the
terminals..still dead

As I was head scratching I got an email reply that told me check to see
if the jumper was in between the two RCA jacks ( EXT ANT / EXT RCVR)
and then it hit me like a ton o' bricksI had this TR7 lashed up with
an R7 and there was no jumper between two jacks...seems my
memory isn't what it used to be!
I had completely forgot about removing the jumper, and when it didn't
receive,I went into "repair mode" and overlooked the obvious!

Again, thanks to the list for all the great help!!
Thanks again

[Drakelist] TR7 dead receive

2010-10-09 Thread Drakedude
Took my TR7 that was in temp controlled storage for about one year and
found I have no receive. Radio worked 100% when put away in closet.
TX works fine, all modes, full output. I get meter deflection when I
rotate RF gain control .
I have very weak audio of TX signals,no meter deflection when a strong
signal ( compared to another recvr same antenna)
Filter selection works,as you cab hear bandwidth narrow with narrow
filter. PBT works good also.

I removed relay & cleaned contacts to no avail.
All voltages at 10 volts or slightly lower on reg. board.

Any thoughts?

Tnx in advance

[Drakelist] R7 receiver

2010-01-04 Thread Drakedude
I see a R7 listed on Ebayhad what is listed as a "FCC" moda
dimmer control added below bandswitch knob. Description states it dims
panel lights ( I would assume vfo dial & meter).
Is this something Drake did at factory to R7's ( never saw one
before),or is it a mod someone did after they bought it?

Just curious

Re: [Drakelist] TR7 questions

2009-12-08 Thread Drakedude
Isn't the 4 line PTO different than the 7 line PTO in that there is no
circuitry for RIT inside PTO in 4 line, later incorporated in 7 line?
5 & 7 line PTO's the same,except for no dial plates on the 5 line,and
reverse tuning due to Xtal mixing scheme on TR5

Per the archives ..the 7 pto is the same as the 4c, is the 5 the same?

Next was a recent write up on an R7 that said there was a mechanical
lever to release the gear on the pto to enable a mechanical alignment
on the dial. Is that the same on the TR7?

I have three spare MS7 speakers available.

All work like they should,no sticky paint. All look excellent, except one
of the three has a spst switch installed in bottom of cabinet towards
front,I suppose was used with phone patch (to mute speaker). It is
really not noticable unless you look for it. Easily removed, you'll just
have a spare hole in cabinet bottom.

$90.00 shipped CONUS for either of the first two, $75.00 for the one
with the switch installed (shipped CONUS)

Exc. comdition P 75 phone patch, one knob missing aluminum insert

$30.00 shipped CONUS

This list is a priceless treasure trove of help when needed.

can.

[Drakelist] TR7 tuning issues

2009-04-12 Thread Drakedude
My TR7 started a new problem today...some bands won't tune
properly.80 mtrs won't go up past 3.500 (using up/down buttons) and
20 meters and 10 meters the display just "runs wild" it keeps climbing
in frequency. PTO tuning has no effect on 20 & 10. No AUX board
installed.

It's as though synthesizer is only partly working, due to some bands work
OK (160,40,15) some half work (80) and two don't work at all (20 & 10)

I reseated all the cards which had no effect. Any thoughts as where to
start looking?

brown-ish.

PS for those of you who remember my MN2000 ? as to whether it had an
inner coverthe answer was yes...and now I have the original cover in

Re: [Drakelist] TR7 with Modern Linear

2009-03-01 Thread Drakedude
I run my TR7 with a QRO Technologies HF2500 (pr of GU74b's) with the ALC
connected and have no problem. I also have the ALC on the TR7 cranked
back somewhat.

Garey, et al,
I tried the "fake ALC" method with my old KWM-380 and an Alpha 91b after

fiddling with ALC on the 91b with little success. I had no more
success
with the fake ALC circuit I found on a site. While it DID work at
lowering
the output (that could be witnessed in the CW mode with carrier turned
down), the Collins had a leading edge spike that was a killer. The
Alpha
faulted on that spike, EVERY time. I have read a few places on the net
hinting that the same might be true for the TR7. Anyone had experience
with
that?? Also, I was reading some time ago that the output of the driver
board has been successfully used as a "0dbm" input for transverters. My

thought was to remove the original PA in a TR7, build a small 30 or 40w
amp
to take it's place and drive the Alpha from that. I have since sold the

Alpha and the KWM-380, and have a nice 2 tube, 3-500z amp whose ALC
works
well. I have NOT tried it as yet with the TR7, hence my question about
the
"leading edge spike", althought the amp would take it, 150w into this
amp
will give you 2k into a dummy load, hi.
73 and thanks for your input Garey,
