[Drakelist] TR-4 Plate Meter bounce
I am working on rebuilding/cleanup of a TR-4 transceiver. The rig is working ok, except for a bouncing (irratic) plate meter problem. The meter oscillates when you place the rig in tune. The meter continues to bounce after switching from TX back to RX. The 2 ohm meter shunt is ok. [drakelist] DRAKE R-4C (4-NB Noise Blanker)

I have the 4-NB manual with schematic from the bama website. There is no receiver audio when switched to NB position. Using a scope I can see that the 7.935 Mhz oscillator in the NB is oscillating. Perhaps the FETs are blown in the NB. Does any one have a parts layout and theory of operation for this NB. I you have the filament transformer jumpered in the RF deck for 120VAC and you have the Power Supply jumpered for 220VAC and you apply 220VAC you will burn up the filament transformer in the RF Deck you will get a very loud hum in the RF deck for a short period of time then lots of smoke. The RF Parts part no. RFC3 plate choke is slightly longer and might have to be mounted horizontally to fit in the L-4B cabinet. The L-4B plate choke does not have enough inductance at 1.8-2 Mhz for proper operation on 160m. One problem with modifying a L-4B for 160M will be not having extra bandswitch positions for switching the extra tank plate and load fixed capacitors needed for 160M.
