Thanks for the detailed report Gerry. Here at WWC we have been making
our own surface mount boards using a Xerox Phaser 850 printer.We
then use a syringe to apply solder paste, then place parts by hand and
bake in a specially modified toaster oven. It gives great results, and
much quicker than soldering conventional through hole parts. I'm
considering making one of those type boards for this project later this
summer. We will see what happens. You can see some instructions on
the process at:

engr357/index.htm

Again, thanks for the report.

Hello Gerry;
Thanks for the update on the Far Circuits kit. I must say that I am a bit
discouraged by your report. I assume that there is always some deviation
in magazine construction projects, but as you say, had you not been in the
business, you'd be dead in the water. The poor quality control on the
circuit board is enough to deal with without having to interpret what parts
were substituted. How does an average Ham work through this without some
documentation?

Thanks again for your update and please keep us informed on your progress...
I for one was/am looking forward to taking up the project.

Best regards;
Gene

whoa!!

i knwo Fred quite well from far circuits... His quality at times can be a
bit ruff but not as bad as what you have in your hands.

send them back quality like that is unacceptable at any level..

he will replace them without charge
