[drakelist] T-4X: No Audio On SSB / AM CONCLUSION
EP Swynar [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Good Morning All, Well, forgive me, please, if I might sound a bit forward, but I am taking a bow... I FINALLY fixed the no audio problem with my T-4X! After I'd discovered the chunk of broken phenolic in the rear wafer of S-1, and determined where, exactly, the second loose orphan lug was originally attached to the switch, I glued the thing back together with generous amounts of Weld Bond brand epoxy. Yesterday I re-installed the wafer (no easy feat in and of itself --- talk about tight spaces), re-connected all of the wires (a sketch of the assembly made BEFORE dis-assembly helps a LOT here), and hooked-up a D-104 to the mic jack... VOILA! Perfect audio, on USB, LSB, and AM...and the rig keys nicely with PTT, or VOX, exactly as described in the manual. I hope I might never have to go through all THAT again, any time soon, though. Space is at a real premium around that switch, and one must always take into account any potential long term effects upon the reliability of the assembly due to strain. Indeed, that may well be why the switch broke in the first place. This time around, though, I've added some slack to all of the connecting points at the switch by soldering in extra splices of wire, to relieve strain... No, it may not be especially glamorous, but hopefully, this will do the trick. One final footnote: the XYL daughter are off on a road trip, have left me alone for the day...I was hoping to set-up the Twins on our backyard gazebo for some leisurely QSOs, when I noticed that the multi-band dipole that I use on such occasions had dropped from the halyard located 50' up the tower... Garey Barrell [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Eddy - Congratulations! Certainly not an easy fix, but then nuthin's ever easy :-) Your bow is well deserved, and thanks for sharing with us your repair procedure. There are far too many who would just part out a radio with that sort of irreplaceable broken part. Personally I think there's a reason so few Drake 4 Line parts units are around, (not counting the EB 'breakers',) they CAN be repaired. Enjoy your transmitter! 73, Garey - K4OAH Glen Allen, VA Drake 2-B, 4-B, C-Line TR-4/C Service Supplement CDs www.k4oah.com EP Swynar wrote: EP Swynar [EMAIL PROTECTED] made an utterance to the drakelist gang -- Good Morning All, Well, forgive me, please, if I might sound a bit forward, but I am taking a bow... I find that after I get a really nasty problem fixed, it's a case of the warm and fuzzies for a few days..
