Like illegal drugs, there is only a supply if there are buyers to be had.

And as long as there are folks who either need to restore or feel
they have to restore old rigs, there

will always be a market.

The ease of buying/selling on the internet fuels the activity.

I was looking for the combo Brown Brothers padde/straight keyI
have the version with the leaf spring on the straight key and wanted
the more traditional straight key.

At over 200 bucks, I figured I'd just keep what I hadbut if I was
a collector or absolutely HAD to restore it, yea, I might have
participated in the escalation.

The correction is on the wayI see houses near me that is less
than are year have dropped from 500k to 275k and they still aren't
soldso, when the obscene amount of discretionary cash dries
cupyou might see reasonable prices again.

Steve & Others:

I'm not sure why you all think the seller is "fixit-fox" (Charlie Talbott,
K3ICH)..He has sold me many difficult to find parts to refurbish several
TR-7's (The AF/RF on/off switch for example)...Always easy and fair to deal
with, and even sent me some parts before he got payment.

Now Martin who sells as "Radio-Mart" and buys as "Gottahaveit"that's a
horse of a different color. i.e., Running between 3.5 and 4% E-Bay
complaintsfor about 5,000 sales that's a bunch of pissed-off people.

And now he's parting out several brands of radios, including a TR-7...I
wouldn't buy any of the parts from him, since the last (and only) part I bought
from him was junkA National S-Meter, NFG, and didn't even have the glass
front on it.He's even trying to sell off the individual metal pieces..

At least when you buy from Charlie, you know the part is going to work,
etc.

Enough of this I guess...not trying to start a war.

A year ago or so I saw one of the stripped TR7 Chassis on
eBay, not sure who was selling it, there are 2 or 3 doing
that now.Anyway it was a reasonably high serial number,
so I bought it, the front panel assembly (sold separately),
and several of the boards (again sold separately). I put
it all back together and scrounged a couple of missing
boards and got it working. With little effort beyond
reassembly the radio worked and still works fine. So I
know for sure there is at least one TR7 that came back from
the dead and is enjoying a 2nd chance at life.

Yep, I've seen that guy too. Some people will stoop so low
as to pimp working radios just for a buck. Sad, but there's
always folks who take a mercenary approach.

The best bet is to not buy from the guy, and hope he stews
in a sea of chopped up radios.

I was on our favorite un-auction site looking for a fan for my PS-7 and
our favorite collector and seller of "collector quality" Drake and Collins

In a certian vintage computer newsgroup that I am active in, such
Neanderthals are known as "tin men". They know little and care less about the
hardware they r a p e for dollars.
