[Bug 2754] ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY in DRM/DRI mode locks up if CPU frequency changes on battery power

2005-06-27 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2754

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2005-06-27 10:34 ---
I did find that changing to a console virtual terminal (not using a frame
buffer), changing the clock speed and then flipping back over to X does work
flawlessly in both directions (high-low, low-high). When doing this (even
without changing the clock), agpgart reports putting the device into AGP Nx mode
each time.

I have the exact same problem with DRI/DRM enabled, the video in AGP mode and
cpufreq changing cpu clock speeds. Everything runs fine so long as the cpu
frequency stays at one setting.

Setup:
HP Omnibook xt6200
Gentoo Linux 2005.x
Kernel: 2.6.11-gentoo-r11
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 2.00GHz
(It has the same low clock speed of 1.2GHz when in low power mode.)

Any dmesg output indicating there is actually a kernel issue? Like the watchdog
timer coming up and kicking the task?
Thanks,
Nish

[Bug 4714] New: OpenGL applications and some X-windows functions cause machine to be unresponsive.

2005-06-05 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4714

Summary: OpenGL applications and some X-windows functions cause
machine to be unresponsive.
Kernel Version: 2.6.11 -- 2.6.12-rc5
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Distribution: Gentoo
Hardware Environment: Dual Athlon 1.2ghz, ATI R128, AMD760MPX
Software Environment: Xorg X11, 6.8.2, fvwm, any OpenGl game.
Problem Description:

Playing an openGl application, or even manipulating a desktop pop-up menu while
an OpenGL application is active causes the machine to become totally
unresponsive except for the mouse for exactly ten seconds or some multiple
thereof...

I suspect this is a kernel bug because running Xosview on the secondary
videocard/monitor -- which also freezes, suggests that one of the two processors
is in system mode for the entire duration... I suspect it's a deadlock in the
kernel and a 10 second watchdog timer is recovering the thing... Applications
appear to be working normally during these outages but are unable to send data
to the screen.

Steps to reproduce:

Run any OpenGL application for a few minutes. -- it hangs...

I've no ideas on this either, there should be nothing cpufreq should affect in
the dri/drm driver, I'm thinking the X server may be doing something bad and
XFree86 4.3 in Debian is pretty old...

I might see if I can reproduce this on my laptop when I get a DRM working on my
pciexpress graphics card...

[Bug 4602] New: Resume from suspend to disk causes crash (suspend2)

2005-05-08 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4602

Summary: Resume from suspend to disk causes crash (suspend2)
Kernel Version: 2.6.11
Status: NEW
  Severity: high
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Distribution: Gentoo kernel 2.6.11 + software suspend2 patches
Hardware Environment: Sony VAIO PCG FX-140 (Pentium III 700 MHz), 256MB RAM
Software Environment: suspend2 2.1.7.2 + Xorg Xserver from cvs
Problem Description:
Resuming from software suspend2 causes X server to crash and sometimes even
system
freeze when using dri under X. When dri is disabled, resume works fine.

Steps to reproduce:
1.) Enable dri under X
2.) Suspend using suspend2 + hibernate script
3.) Resume using resume2=/dev/swap

Repeat the same with dri disabled (using Option Accel false in xorg.conf) to
confirm that things work fine.

The system has a 82815 graphics chipset, so it's using i810 driver. This
problem might be just specific to this chipset/driver.

I'm attaching xserver log and lspci output for more details.

regards,

-Wilson

Software Environment: Fedora Core 3
Broken kernels include: custom built 2.6.11.6 Kernel.org kernel, and all FC3
released 2.6.10-* kernels.
Working kernel: FC3 2.6.9-1.724_FC3
XWindows: xorg-x11-6.8.2-1.FC3.13

Problem Description:
When running any 2.6.10 or later kernel with DRI enabled the screen locks to a
point where you only have an x-cursor for the mouse which does respond to the
mouse, and 4 screwed up minature images of the BIOS boot screen along the top of
the LCD with the rest of the LCD being black. All though the mouse responds,
there is no keyboard response. I can ssh in to cleanly shutdown the machine, so
it doesn't lock the system, only the xserver. There are no errors in the xorg
log files to report.

DRI works prefectly fine with the 2.6.9 and before series kernels.
Please see these two Fedora Core bugs as reference, the first bug includes a
picture of what the screen looks like during a failure:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=144867
(please ignore the earlier posts about the 2.6.9 kernel, was never able to
reproduce for that kernel version)

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=152312

Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot a 2.6.10 or greater kernel with DRI enabled in the xorg.conf file.
2. Boot into Xwindows from init 5 or run startx from init 3
3. Watch your screen go screwy and still have a moving mouse cursor but no
keyboard.

Ok, I tried something new, and narrowed the issue down to something with the AGP
driver used. By using Option BusType PCI and forcing the xorg to use the
AGP card as a PCI card, everything works as expected. The only issue being that
it is slower than Using AGP mode.

I'm updating this bug so that is is now listed under Drivers Video (AGP)

[Bug 4389] New: kernel source 2.6.8.11.5 misses drivers/char/drm/gamma.h

2005-03-23 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4389

Summary: kernel source 2.6.8.11.5 misses drivers/char/drm/gamma.h
Kernel Version: 2.6.11.5
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Distribution: Debian
Hardware Environment: Acer Aspire 1703
Software Environment:
Problem Description: While upgrading from the debian-testing stock kernel
2.6.8-15 to 2.6.11.5, using the same .config I discovered that
drivers/char/drm/gamma.h is missing, which generates a compile error and
prevents the kernel from building.
Copying drivers/char/drm/gamma.h from the kernel-source-2.6.8 package to the
apropiate location of the 2.6.11.5 kernel source resolved the problem.

Steps to reproduce:
Select DRM and all DRM drivers as modules and do a make deb-pkg/make bzImage

Discard the after copying gamma.h it works part.
After copying gamma.h it asked for additional include files, after these were
copied it started to talk about stuff not being defined. :(

Take care,

Patrick

I'm assuming that we still have a bug here, although it's not obvious what it
is.

Markus, it might be useful to test 2.6.12-rc1-mm1, which has an AGP/DRI fix.
Although we're not getting 100% success reports from that.

You'll have to update the Intel driver to use remap_pfn_range instead. It's
the same as remap_page_range except that it takes a page frame number instead
of a page. Typical change is something like this:

It belongs in the Device section corresponding to your card driver. E.g.

Section Device
Identifier Generic Video Card
Driver r128
Option BusType PCI
EndSection

I'm hoping that will prevent it from using the AGP interface so we can narrow
down the cause of this problem.

Oh right, I think DRM requires AGP if you have it enabled when you build it.
You can try building your kernel w/o AGP support to see if that helps. If
disabling AGP doesn't work, then we're probably looking at a drm or r128
problem here.

Nevermind, after looking at the log you already pasted, I don't think my patch
will give us any additional info. It looks like AGP at least thinks it
initialized properly, but obviously it didn't if your display doesn't work.
Just to confirm, if you set BusType PCI in your xorg.conf does it avoid
using agp and work ok?

Can you do some testing of -bk2, -bk6 as well?

-bk2 should be fine, if -bk6 is broken then it is the multi-bridge AGP stuff
that is broken, and if -bk6 works but -bk8 doesn't as you've said then it is my
head splitting patch for the drm...

-bk2 works fine, bk6 (and the current .3-bk1) have the same problem (or a
similar^^) the screen is black in the upper part (to be exact 1/4, not 1/3)
and the system is very laggy, it takes several seconds to switch to the first
console.
The mouse can be moved over the whole screen (including the black part), but
as the system is laggy the mouse cant be used for anything (the movement is
smooth!)
The error-msg stayed the same.

[Bug 4337] New: ATI Rage 128: messed up X

2005-03-14 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4337

Summary: ATI Rage 128: messed up X
Kernel Version: from at least 2.6.11-bk8 to bk10

edit filed). Its hard to change to console.
After that some lines like the following appear in the XFree log:
(EE) R128(0): R128CCEWaitForIdle: (DEBUG) CCE idle took i = 1025
(EE) R128(0): Idle timed out, resetting engine...

And some logs of message:

before
kernel: agpgart: Detected VIA Apollo Pro 133 chipset
***kernel: agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 203M*** does
not appear (but normally does 2.6.11)

kernel: [drm] Initialized drm 1.0.0 20040925
kernel: [drm] Initialized r128 2.5.0 20030725 on minor 0: ATI Technologies Inc
Rage 128 RF/SG AGP
kernel: agpgart: Found an AGP 1.0 compliant device at :00:00.0.
kernel: agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at :00:00.0 into 1x mode
kernel: agpgart: Putting AGP V2 device at :01:00.0 into 1x mode

I know that the bk are for testing, but this problem now exists for at least 3
of them...

If any further information is needed, please tell it...

Steps to reproduce: Dont exactly know. I use a ATI Rage 128 with its modules
compiled in kernel and a via agp-chip...

[Bug 3834] New: 2.6.9-gentoo-r3, 2.6.9-gentoo-r4 and 2.6.10-rc2 crash with mplayer and celestia

2004-11-30 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3834

   Summary: 2.6.9-gentoo-r3, 2.6.9-gentoo-r4 and 2.6.10-rc2 crash
with mplayer and celestia
Kernel Version: 2.6.9-gentoo-r3, 2.6.9-gentoo-r4 and 2.6.10-rc2
Status: NEW
  Severity: high
 Owner: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Distribution:
Gentoo Linux

Hardware Environment:
Linux ganymede 2.6.5-gentoo-r1 #9 Sun Oct 24 23:37:44 CEST 2004 x86_64 AMD
Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
Matrox Millenium graphics adapter
Soundblaster Live! soundcard

Software Environment:
kernel config http://www.gubi24.de/users/helge/gentoo-2.6.9-r4.config
Gnu C 3.4.3
Gnu make 3.80
binutils 2.15.92.0.2

Net-tools 1.60
Kbd1.12
Sh-utils 5.2.1
Modules Loaded
MPlayer1.0pre2-3.3.3
Celestia 1.3.1

Problem Description:
using mplayer for about 20 minutes to play AVI files, the kernel hangs. the
crash starts with a high-pitched whine from the sound track, after some seconds
tis develops into a loop of about half a second length consisting of the sound
playing at the moment of the crash. the image stands still. the computer totally
hangs otherwise, no way to switch to a console. there is no entry in the syslog
either.
using celestia (an application making heavy use of OpenGL graphics and textures)
for a variable time, the same crash appears. I have only used celestia with an
xmms playing along up to now, which led to the same sound as described above. I
do not know whether the crash was caused by a combination od graphics and sound
drivers or by graphics alone.
This bug is reproducible, it happens every time I use mplayer or celestia with
the kernel version mentioned.
On kernel 2.6.5-gentoo-r1, none of the crashes appear.
I feel I should stress that I use a very old Matrox Millennium I graphics
adapter. I had no occasion to test this behaviour on newer hardware.
I did not test the standard 2.6.9 kernel (without the gentoo patches) yet, but
the circumstance that 2.6.10-rc2 crashes too lets me expect the same behaviour.

Steps to reproduce:
Run mplayer, wait for half an hour maximum.
Run celestia, do some manipulations.

the circumstance that 2.6.10-rc2 crashes too lets me expect the same behaviour.

Steps to reproduce:
Run mplayer, wait for half an hour maximum.
Run celestia, do some manipulations.

[Bug 3839] New: 2.6.9-gentoo-r3, 2.6.9-gentoo-r4 and 2.6.10-rc2 crash with mplayer and celestia

Steps to reproduce:
wget http://jbevren.net/config-2.6.9.gz
zcat config-2.6.9.gz .config
make oldconfig
make

Notes:
Normally I look for a solution, but this is beyond my skripting abilities ;)
make defconfig; make does not have this issue.
this .config is made by copying debian's /boot/config, make oldconfig (use
defaults on questions asked), and adding acenic support.

Thanks for your time. :)

this is due to the class stuff that was added incorrectly, we have proper code
in DRM cvs but it needs a blessing from the kernel...

in the future, please file DRI bugs at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/

The user isn't loading an agp chipset driver which causes the radeon drm to
fail, we probably should fix the DRM to fail nicer but it has never been that
high on the list as it is a system configuration issue...
