  check it with 2.95.

I've recompiled xfree with gcc3.2 so now all is compiled with gcc3.2 but it
changed nothing. still the same error with permission

again see dri-devel archives - some people have the same problems in the
past. There are many changes in 4.2.99 tree so many bad things could happen

The only solutions I've found there was recompiling xfree and modul with the
same compiler... as I said it doesn't help...
but _not_ with gcc3.x!

Any other suggestion on solving my problem ?

recompile with older version of gcc.

i've recently instaled x4.2.99 from http://penguinppc.org/~daniels/ on my
debian sid box but dri don't work. I didn't noticed it on x4.2.1

After instalation it started to complain about to old kernel module so i've
 installed a newer one
 [drm] AGP 0.99 on AMD Irongate @ 0xe800 64MB
[drm] Initialized radeon 1.6.0 20020828 on minor 0

 but it didn't help.

In log file a can see:

 (WW) RADEON(0): Restoring MEM_CNTL (), setting to 2d002d01
 (WW) RADEON(0): Restoring CONFIG_MEMSIZE (0400), setting to 0400
 (WW) RADEON(0): Restoring MPP_TB_CONFIG31:24 (04), setting to 01

 and

(II) RADEON(0): [drm] drmSetBusid failed (5, PCI:1:5:0), Permission denied
(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.

and i have no idea what to do with it.
i am working from root so permision problem is quite strange.

here are permisions on the device

 athlon:~# ll /dev/dri/card0
 crw-r--r--1 root root 226, 0 2003-01-27 12:46 /dev/dri/card0

skip

possibly you compile kernel modules with gcc differ from gcc that compiled
XFree86 server?

Hmm.. I don't know with what gcc are those debs compiled but since they are
for sid and now the default gcc in sid is 3.2 so they should be compiled with
gcc 3.2, dont they ? and i've compiled module with gcc3.2

but thinghs compiled with different gcc version show relocations erros not
permisions error or so...

and as i said the problem doesnt exist with x4.2.1 witch i instaled exacly in
the same way
