[Dri-devel] S3 M7 Documentation?

2003-10-31 Thread Michael Larson
I have an old S3 M7 dual head card that I would like to port my
portrait code onto for XF86 for a hardware accelerated portrait dual
display system. I used to write drivers for the M7 and I am familiar
with the part but I am lacking documentation on it, this part is old so
is there still documentation available for it? I am asking in the DRI
list as the hardware rotate uses the texture engine...

Thanks,

Mike Larson

Re: [Dri-devel] S3 M7 Documentation?

2003-11-01 Thread Alex Deucher
I tried to add dualhead support for this chip a while back, but got no
where with docs from S3/VIA. I was able to find out basically how it
worked, but I was never able to get it working (I think I wasn't
setting the second DAC right). I eventually got databooks for the
duoview portion of the virge MX (I was assuming M7 and virge MX were
similarly architected), but by then I didn't have the time to mess with
it anymore. S3/VIA released the source to a driver for the savage
chips, but there was no dualhead support and the 3D portion only
supports the savage 4 cores. for the older ones like the M7, you'll
need to look in utah-glx. there was a 3D driver there. If you want to
start working on dualhead support again, I'd be happy to help out. I
can try and explain how it supposed to work, but you may already have a
pretty good idea.
