From: Michel Dänzer Now that we can handle 16 bpp on big endian as well, we can save VRAM like this and probably also improve console output speed. The console only uses a limited number of colours anyway. (8 bpp might be even better, but that doesn't seem to work properly yet) This will require changes to the X driver code which tries to preserve the console contents, but that never worked for me anyway.
