RE: [dspace-tech] CC License Step on submissions form

Kia ora Andrea,

Thanks very much – that confirms my suspicions. Given this I think we might as
well edit the class filters in dspace.cfg and if we want to add a Public Domain
mark to anything just do it manually. I’ll test to make sure the PD logo still
displays via the page-structure.xsl, if not then I’ll look into the javascript
option.

Not that I'm aware of -- I think you can just give the class filters in

As far as I can tell, that option is only used in the item submission (& review
workflow) form. It would definitely neither affect existing items nor prevent
you from adding whatever you like via the edit metadata / edit bitstreams
screens.

You could try and hack what goes into the licenses drop-down via JavaScript, to
remove the PD option for submissions to your thesis collection/s.

Re: [dspace-tech] upgrade.

2016-02-22 Thread Tim Donohue

Hi Jose,

I'm not sure what "count" you are looking at, so it's hard to comment on
that. It's *possible* the count you are looking at is coming directly
from the database (instead of from the Solr index). It's also possible
the count you are looking at is being *cached* (either in your web
browser, or in Apache Cocoon if you are using XMLUI).

But, during reindexing, you definitely will see the "Recently Added"
Items list change (as you refresh the homepage and new items are
indexed), and the # of results to searches will also change (again as
more content is indexed).

If nothing is appearing in your logs, then no reindexing is going on at
this time. So, you should run 'index-discovery -b' if you want to do a
reindex.

In general, I wouldn't be too concerned here unless you are seeing
actual errors occurring in your log files. Reindexing is not a
disruptive process. It can always be done again if something goes wrong.
And, it can be run while the site is running (in fact it needs Solr to
be up, so that often means it *should* be done while the site is running).

But, as you can tell from the timestamps of those example
messages...the actual indexing process is quite rapid (several
objects per second), which is why you'll never see that zero count.

It's also worth noting that, as of 5.x, during an upgrade a
reindex is triggered *automatically*. This means that before you
run 'index-discovery -b' you might want to be sure to check your
logs to see if the index process is already occurring. By
default, whenever the database changes (which occurs in most every
major release), all content will be auto-reindexed.

In summary, check your logs to see if the indexing is going on. If
there are errors there, then pass them along on this list. But, if
you are just seeing those "Wrote __ to Index" messages, then
everything is working correctly.

Hello Faiyaz,

Just a quick note. If you are trying to reindex DSpace in *Solr*, then
you are running the wrong command.

Assuming you mean to be using Discovery / Solr:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC5x/Discovery

Then the correct reindex command is:
[dspace]/bin/dspace index-discovery -b

The old "index-lucene-init" command is ONLY used if you are using the
legacy, deprecated Lucene Search & DBMS Browse systems. If you are not
using those systems (which it sounds like you are not), then the command
will likely throw errors.

But, as you can tell from the timestamps of those example messages...the
actual indexing process is quite rapid (several objects per second),
which is why you'll never see that zero count.

It's also worth noting that, as of 5.x, during an upgrade a reindex is
triggered *automatically*. This means that before you run
'index-discovery -b' you might want to be sure to check your logs to see
if the index process is already occurring. By default, whenever the
database changes (which occurs in most every major release), all content
will be auto-reindexed.

In summary, check your logs to see if the indexing is going on. If there
are errors there, then pass them along on this list. But, if you are
just seeing those "Wrote __ to Index" messages, then everything is
working correctly.

I'm running:
./dspace index-discovery -b

and I can see the index being updated in the correct dir
solr/search/data/index

but the browser is not changing, which confuses me. It still show all
the items, it's as if indexing is not going on. I would expect the
counts to go down to 0 and then increase. Is it possible that the old
index segment is left alone, until the idexing completes and then a
swap is done?

Does it resolve the item using the handle?

-b is the better choice as it will clear and rebuild the index,
whereas -f reindexes existing items (Solr documents).

[dspace-tech] add html field in item page xmlui

2016-02-22 Thread Luiz dos Santos
Dears,

I have to add an external link to my item page, I'm trying to do it on
the ItemViewer.java, with the code below, I'm not sure if it is the best
way to do it, even more, I'm problem to add a single css class on it, I
already division.addPara addDiv and I didn't get a good results.

externalLinks.addSimpleHTMLFragment(false, "
External Link <\\a>");

Here is a complete version of my method, I'm calling from the method
addBody.

private void addExternalItems(Division division, Item item) throws
WingException {
DCValue[] related = item.getMetadata("dc", "relation",
"externalresource", Item.ANY);

ArrayList links = new ArrayList();

for(DCValue dcValue: related ){
if(!isInternal(dcValue.value)) {
links.add(dcValue.value);
}
}

if(!links.isEmpty()) {
Division externalLinks  = division.addDivision("externalLinks");
for(String value: links) {
externalLinks.addSimpleHTMLFragment(false, " External Link <\\a>");
}
}

}

Thanks

Luiz

Hello Pralay,

Thank you so much for your support and I fixed this issue by disabling

Now, everything is working fine.

Re: [dspace-tech] Locale issue during command line Simple Archive Format import?

2016-02-22 Thread helix84
That exactly confirms my hunch. There are typically several ways to encode
a single Unicode character. That's why normalization exists:

http://unicode.org/faq/normalization.html

The decomposition used in HFS+ seems to be non-standard.

Yes, the indexed items should appear in collections, communities and
indexes gradually in small batches as they're processed. Collection counts
and browse index counts should also reflect that. All items should be
accessible via direct URL from the beginning. What do you actually see

Re: [dspace-tech] Locale issue during command line Simple Archive Format import?

2016-02-22 Thread Alan Orth
Mystery solved: Mac OS X's HFS+ filesystem isn't UTF-8, it's UCS-2[0] (or
something Unicode-y, but NOT UTF-8), and it has some bizarre implementation
details: it apparently store filenames as a string instead of an array of
bytes, and it stores accented characters like ó as an "o" followed by an
accent[1].

I had been running SAFBuilder on Mac OS X and then transferring (via scp)
the resulting SAF bundle to Linux for import. In this scenario, SAFBuilder
had processed my CSV's filenames from the HFS+ filesystem and saved them in
the bundle's contents files. Then, when DSpace's importer tries to find the
referenced files, the Linux ext4 filesystem says it doesn't have that file.

I've just run a successful import of a subset of my problematic data after
running the SAFBuilder step on Linux.

Jose:

As you know, I had a similar issue, I went through and checked all of old
emails concerning this problem, and I am not sure if this is your problem,
but the problem I had was actually in my tomcat server.xml config file.
The original configuration that I had worked in DSpace 4.x, but NOT in
DSpace 5.x.
In my server.xml, had a local host declaration and an "ecommons.cornell.edu"
declaration. The two declarations were causing a conflict and locking
solr. I merged everything under localhost and then I had no more problems
with the solr indexes. Do you think that your problem may be with your
tomcat server configuration?

Either Solr indexing is still in progress from the first run or the
Solr core is still locked from a previous interrupted run.

In either case, you can stop DSpace, delete the write.lock file,
restart DSpace and run the reindex again.

Re: [dspace-tech] Locale issue during command line Simple Archive Format import?

2016-02-22 Thread Alan Orth
Thanks for the tips, helix. I do have a UTF-8 locale installed and active
in the Linux environment:

$ locale -a | grep en_US
en_US.utf8

I had been generating the SAF bundle in a Mac OS X environment and then
importing it on Linux. On a hunch, I copied this one file and its CSV
metadata to the Linux environment and generated the SAF there. To my
surprise, the import worked. I will now try this on a larger subset of my
1000+ files.

The Mac OS X system is using HFS+, and the Linux is using ext4. The only
other difference I can think of is that the Mac has Oracle Java 8 and the
Linux has Oracle Java 7.

Re: [dspace-tech] Locale issue during command line Simple Archive Format import?

2016-02-22 Thread helix84
Just to test whether DSpace gets locale information wrong, you could
try these two invocations:

LC_ALL=C /dspace/bin/dspace ...

LC_ALL=es_ES.utf8 /dspace/bin/dspace ...

The later assumes your system actually has the es_ES.utf8 locale
built, but you should be able to use any other utf8 locale instead
(e.g. en_US.utf8 if you have it installed).

A different source of the problem might be what encoding your
filesystem uses and how Java interprets it. Try to find out and
perhaps try a non-utf8 locale, if needed.

[dspace-tech] Locale issue during command line Simple Archive Format import?

2016-02-22 Thread Alan Orth
Hi,

I'm just about at my wit's end trying to import some files using the Simple
Archive Format (SAF). At first it seemed to be due to filenames containing
Spanish accents, but I'm really not sure. The import process fails like so
on my Ubuntu 14.04 environment:

> java.io.FileNotFoundException:
/tmp/SimpleArchiveFormat/item_1/La_yuca_en_ la_alimentación_de_cerdos.pdf
(No such file or directory)

The file does exist. Initially I suspected that either the space or the
Spanish accent was causing the problem, but the same exact SAF bundle
imports successfully on my Mac OS X dev machine.

Is this a locale issue or what? I should probably clean up the spaces, but
I'd rather not convert the accents to "plain" ASCII. DSpace version is 5.1
but that seems irrelevant here.

Thanks,

I think it's a legitimate request to be able to connect a derived
bitstream (thumbnail or text) with original bistream. We don't have a
facility for that yet. I don't think it's the use case for a primary
bistream, as there can be several derived bitstreams per item. The
concept of primary bitstream is missing a clear definition - as it is
now it can have different meanings in different contexts, so in my
opinion it would be better to replace it with particular concepts,
like "this thumbnail represents this item" or "this PDF contains the
fulltext for Google Scholar". Those can now (since DSpace 5) be easily
represented as bitstream metadata.
