Will this CKAN integration be available in the “new world order” (angular2.js)
of Dspace? We are in the process of implementing CKAN for a data repository but
if we get those capabilities bundled in with Dspace that would be great. Also,
the CRIS components would be great too!

Subject: [dspace-tech] DSpace-CRIS 5.6 & DSpace-CKAN release announcement

***apologies for cross-posting***

Dear all,
I'm glad to announce the availability of the 5.6(.1) version of DSpace-CRIS
built on top of DSpace JSPUI 5.6
https://github.com/4Science/DSpace/tree/dspace-cris-5.6.1

and a new Add-on module for DSpace(-CRIS) named DSpace-CKAN

https://github.com/4Science/dspace-ckan

A demo website maintained by 4Science running the latest available code for
DSpace-CRIS and the DSpace-CKAN integration module has been setup here:

https://dspace-cris.4science.it/

The release includes the security fixes already available in DSpace JSPUI 5.6,
making it easier to upgrade from a recent DSpace version to DSpace-CRIS (no
more need to run sql scripts manually) and brings a lot of new and exciting
features:

  * UI Extendibility: the webapp can now use the servlet 3.0 specification,
enabling the creation and plug-in of external modules with their specific web
UI components and pages. An extension point has been introduced to plugin
viewers dedicated to particular bitstreams.
  * Edit metadata for any DSpace Object via the UI: it is now possible to
edit/add/remove metadata for Communities, Collections, Bundles and Bitstreams,
to simplify the management of further functionalities based on custom metadata.
  * Edit archived Items with UI submission: administrators can now edit
archived or withdrawn items using the same UI available for submissions,
exploiting functionalities such as dropdown, autocomplete, ORCID lookup,
validation, etc.
  * Deduplication tools (detect & merge): this administrative tool allows to
check the database for potential duplicates and to merge the confirmed matches.
During the submission, an alert is shown when a potential duplicate is
detected. More information and screenshots available here
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACECRIS/deduplication+alert
  * Improved ORCiD synchronization: DSpace-CRIS now stores the internal
identifier assigned by ORCiD to the publications in order to prevent record
duplications when a local DSpace-CRIS update is pushed to ORCID ("put" code).
In addition to that, DSpace-CRIS is now able to push to the ORCiD profiles
educational and professional information of the researcher.
  * Improved submission forms: among the new functionalities we can list the
regex validation support, a framework for complex validation support, new input
type “number” for submission and new input type “year” for submission.
  * Improved security model for CRIS entities: every single CRIS object,
object tab and object box can now be configured to be visible to specific users
or user groups. An example of this would be when parts of a specific project
description (such as costs) can be linked to the project participants, or the
department director, or the research/contract office, etc.
  * Automatic calculation of derived metrics: examples are average, maximum,
minimum, variance of publication citation counts shown as metrics at the level
of researcher, organization, project, and so on.
  * Advanced import framework: border tables have been introduced to easily
create ETL procedures to load and synchronize data, currently limited to
publication, in the DSpace-CRIS installation.
  * On-demand DOI registration: an administrative UI allows to register DOIs
via DataCite or CrossRef for items matching configured criteria (theses,
dataset, etc.). For each group it is possible to define the template used to
generate the DOI and the metadata to deposit. The precalculated DOI can be
revised by the administrator to allow complete personalization.
  * Template service: the template item now supports the use of substitution
variables bound to dynamic code plugged in as spring bean. The functionality
allows the generation of default values dynamically generated in submission
such as the timestamp, the details of the submitter, and so on.
  * Creation of CRIS objects as part of the submission process: it allows
users to create new CRIS objects (persons, projects, organizations, events,
etc.) on demand as needed during the submission of a DSpace item. It can be
even used to provide a workflow around the collection of data, including
metrics, a

Hi Luiz-
The browse has always worked but the search-filter is the odd one. It does seem
like a bug to me as well but I really can’t spend any additional time on it.
Doing a web search on
https://www.google.com/search?q=xmlui.Discovery.AbstractSearch.type_department&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
there are at least three other institutions where this comes up.

Even spot checking other repositories I found it:
https://repository.library.georgetown.edu/search-filter?field=department (sorry
Terry) and https://www.era.lib.ed.ac.uk/search-filter?field=department (sorry
Pauline).

I would be happy to file a Jira ticket for it.

Hey, Luiz.

Yes, definitely graphs about the contents of communities and collections,
including knowledge areas, accessibility status, countries, authors,
institutes, etc. Our bosses even imagine being able to represent our repository
as a bunch of interactive bubbles that you could navigate through! I'd be happy

(additional information)

Hi,
This is an update to a problem with search results that I reported for my
DSpace 5.2 Mirage2 XMLUI installation.
To make a long story short, I found that if I do a search on a term and that
term appears in the bitstream name, then the extracted text's bitstream name
will appear in the snippet results of the search (as part of the fulltext). I
don't know if this is a misconfiguration on my part or if this is how the
fulltext searching is expected to display in the snippets. Below is an example
that will detail what I am talking about. If anyone has any thoughts that they
would like to share on this, I will be grateful.

Example:
I did a search on the term "Westbrooks" and in the search results, I saw:
Language Data and Rights
Westbrooks, Elaine (2006-03-31)
stream_source_info MWG_2006-03-31_Westbrooks.ppt.txt stream_content_type
text/plain stream_size 9868 Content-Encoding UTF-8 stream_name
MWG_2006-03-31_Westbrooks.ppt.txt Content-Type text/plain; charset=UTF-8
Language...
Data and Rights Elaine L. Westbrooks March 31, 2006 Overview Ethics
Undocumented Rights : Problems Rights Expression (Solutions) Ethics (1)
Language Documentation facets of ethical research Code of Conduct Informed
consent Ethics (2) Language Archiving...

(bitstream name: stream_source_info MWG_2006-03-31_Westbrooks.ppt.txt - this is
the name of the extracted text which contains the fulltext and which fulfills
the search criteria)

Another search, let's say for the phrase "Overview Ethics Undocumented Rights"
which appears within the extracted text will result in:
Language Data and Rights
Westbrooks, Elaine (2006-03-31)
Data and Rights Elaine L. Westbrooks March 31, 2006 Overview Ethics
Undocumented Rights : Problems Rights Expression (Solutions) Ethics (1)

consent Ethics (2) Language Archiving...
Intellectual property rights International & Protected groups Preserve data
Access management Human Subjects Institutional Review Board Confidentiality,
privacy Problems Institutions/archives are responsible Linguists knowledgeable
of access rights Documented...

(the name of the extracted text file does not appear because it does not meet
the search criteria)

Hi, you've run into a known issue, and one I very recently wrestled with myself:

https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-2431

See my last comment on that ticket, I found a way around the issue, by simply
deleting the spider docs from the stats index via a query in the Solr admin
interface.

Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] spider ip recognition

Hi again,

Unfortunately, the documentation for the stats-util command is incorrect.
Specifically this line:

-i or --delete-spiders-by-ip: Delete Spiders in Solr By IP Address, DNS name,
or Agent name. Will prune out all records that match spider identification
patterns.

Running “stats-util –i” does not actually remove spiders by DNS name or Agent
name. Here’s are the relevant sections of the code, from StatisticsClient.java
and SolrLogger.java:

(…)
else if(line.hasOption('i'))
{
SolrLogger.deleteRobotsByIP();
}

public static void deleteRobotsByIP()
{
for(String ip : SpiderDetector.getSpiderIpAddresses()){
deleteIP(ip);
}
}

What this means is that, if a spider is in your Solr stats, there’s no way to
remove it other than manually adding its IP to [dpsace]/config/spiders; adding
its DNS name or Agent name to the configs will not expunge it. Updating the
spider files with “stats-util –u” does little to help because the IP lists it
pulls from are out of date.

An example is the spider from the Bing search engine: bingbot. As of DSpace
4.3, it’s not in the list of spiders by DNS name or Agent name, nor is it in
the list of spider IP addresses. So anyone running DSpace 4.3 likely has usage
stats inflated by visits from this spider. The only way to remove it is to
specify all the IPs for bingbot. Multiply that by all the other “new” spiders
and we’re talking about a lot of work.

I tried briefly to modify the code to take domains/agents into account when
marking or deleting spiders, but I wasn’t able to figure out how to query Solr
with regex patterns. It’s easier to do with IPs because each IP or IP range is
transformed into a String and used as a standard query parameter.

Anthony

Since dspace 4 you can filter by userAgent
see
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC5x/SOLR+Statistics+Maintenance#SOLRStatisticsMaintenance-FilteringandPruningSpiders
I have not used this myself and am not sure whether these filters are applied
as crawlers access content - or whether you need to run the
[dspace]/bin/dspace stats-util command on a regular basis. You definitely need
to run it to prune mark usage events after you configure
a list of userAgents you want to filter against.

Subject: [dspace-tech] Export citation question

I am using DSpace 5.4, XMLUI, and modified MIrage2 theme.

I was asked if anyone has incorporated an export citation function into their
install.
What people are looking for, here, is a button that will allow a user to export
a citation to a citation manager.

Is anyone doing this?

[dspace-tech] Solr Statistics Core "owningItem"

2016-01-26 Thread Borda, Susan
Hi-
After further investigation it appears that Statistics Core "owningItem" and
OAI Core "item.id" = internal ID in Dspace via UI item search
Am I understanding this correctly? I'm finding zero correlation for "id" in the
stats core.

Within the Statistics Core I'm seeing downloads (statistics_type:view, type:0 )
for "owningItem" # that are not searchable within Dspace, what are these?

Thanks,
susan

FW: [dspace-tech] cocoon error, item view

2015-12-15 Thread Borda, Susan
Hi All-
We never received a response to this question and unfortunately it
continues to happen, again this morning for instance and once again a
restart of Tomcat resolved the issue.

Has anyone else had this problem?

We are now running DSpace 5.4.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you!

Subject: [dspace-tech] Google Analytics Statistics in DSpace 5.x

I am attempting to enable the Google Analytics Statistics feature in DSpace 5.x.

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC5x/DSpace+Google+Analytics+Statistics

I am noticing 2 issues with this feature.

  1. The link to the [handle]/google-stats page is not added to my menu items.
Should the code add a link to /google-stats or am I responsible for generating
that link?
  2. When authorization.admin.usage = true, the /google-stats page is visible
to an unauthenticated user

Before I file a bug in Jira, I wanted to confirm if the behavior I am seeing is
unexpected.

Terry

Hi again,

actually it looks like what you're seeing may be a general problem with
google-stats (especially if you can verify that GA has the data, it's just not
shown). See this Jira issue: https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-2899

I guess another useful data point would be for someone else who's using
google-stats to confirm that they're seeing non-zero numbers for bitstream
downloads.

cheers,
Andrea

Hi Susan,

the page you link to just describes how to integrate the display of GA stats
into DSpace. I believe for you, something is going wrong with the data capture
side of things. Your customisation in item-view.xsl should no longer be
necessary since the server-side download tracking should now be in place
(assuming you've set your GA key correctly in dspace.cfg). The server-side
download tracking records the events in the same way as the display expects (at
least that's what I believe, I'm not using the google-stats aspect myself).
Having the item-view tracking like you explained won't screw things up, it will
just double up on some of the figures.

However, since you say your display shows 0 downloads, something must be going
wrong with the server-side download tracking. Again this is probably more
suitable for dspace-tech, and it's also starting to get beyond what I can help
with in the time I have. But if I were you I'd start by checking how the events
come through in your GA data, using the GA web interface. I can see this under
Behaviour -> Events -> Overview. At the bottom of that page, I can get a list
of event categories and of event actions. As explained in my previous e-mail,
the google-stats code looks at category = bitstream and action = download.
Check whether you have any data for that combination. If you don't then
something is going wrong with your data capture. If you do have data for that
combination then something is going wrong with displaying the information. If
the problem is with capturing the data, try changing your item-view
customisation to use category = bitstream and action = download.

cheers,
Andrea

Is there something else we need to do to enable the downloads portion or is our
customization in the item-view.xsl screwing things up?

According to Google Analytics we should have 464 downloads during that time.
Should “google-stats” be able to pull that data from Google Analytics just like
it does for “Page Views” or is something not enabled correctly with Google

This is probably starting to get into dspace-tech territory, but you can see
the query that's built for bitstream downloads here:
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/google/GoogleQueryManager.java#L43:
ga:eventCategory==bitstream;ga:eventAction==download;ga:pagePath=~"+ handle +
"/"

So it looks like this is looking for events with

2015-11-18 Thread Borda, Susan
Hi-
We have enabled google-stats in Dspace but are only seeing 0 for file
downloads. File download counts are visible in Google Analytics itself so it
seems we are having an issue displaying these counts correctly (or at all), we
are displaying "Page Views" just fine:
http://scholarworks.montana.edu/xmlui/handle/1/2999/google-stats

Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks,

Re: [dspace-tech] OAI Harvesting Question in 5.4

2015-11-18 Thread Borda, Susan
Hi Paul-
I use a Python script to harvest via OAI:
https://github.com/vphill/pyoaiharvester

You can specify the metadata format (example xoai) as well.
I use it to pull our 7000+ ETDs in just a few seconds, let me know if you have
any questions about it.

Subject: [dspace-tech] OAI Harvesting Question in 5.4

Couple of OAI related questions on the latest version of Dspace. We are in the
midst of upgrading a Dspace 1.5 site to 5.4. Have it running and the last step
is to get OAI harvesting back working.

Question 1:

URL in version 1.5 to harvest records that worked was
http://scholars.indstate.edu/oai/request?verb=ListRecords&metadataPrefix=oai_dc&set=hdl_10484_1466

What seem to work in 5.4 is
http://tbr2.indstate.edu/oai/request?verb=ListRecords&metadataPrefix=oai_dc&set=com_10484_1466

Whats the difference from "com_10484_1466" and "hdl_10484_1466"? The hdl part
doesn't seem to work on 5.4

Question 2:

When we use the 5.4 URL to harvest it says: "Results fetched 0 - 100 of 1280"

How do we get it to give all 1280 records at once?

Thanks Paul

[dspace-tech] FW: [dspace-community] Re: Linking between entities in DSpace?

2015-09-25 Thread Borda, Susan
Hi-
This is a discussion happening on the Dspace-community side, I wasn't sure if
this was a "general" question or a "technical" question, so I started the
discussion over there... If anyone has a more technical approach I'd love to
hear it, right now we are using a similar approach as Arthur.

We'd also be interested to hear how others are approaching this problem. Our
solution at the moment is to simply include a link to the dataset in the
description field of the article (and vice-versa), though I feel there has to
be a better way.

We'll be minting DOIs against datasets soon, and these are often created before
the article exists, so dataset records need to be separate from their
corresponding articles.

Best,
Arthur

Yes in this scenario both the article and the dataset are in the Dspace
repository.

If they are in the same Dspace item it makes it difficult to know how many
datasets are in Dspace, this is key for our reporting needs.

Hi, Susan.

We are thinking about this kind of thing at the Smithsonian as well.

Can I assume that both article and dataset are in the same DSpace repository?

A rather naïve suggestion would be to include both reprint (article) and data
set on the same DSpace item.

That is an item would have multiple files.

But is that not workable?

Or is there a one-to-many relationship between dataset and article?
