Actually, technically, if there's no difference in the fields to sort
upon they are ordered by whatever the database feels like. This is most
likely to be the order in which they were entered in the database, yes.
If you are sorting by title, though, then it isn't immediately obvious
that you'd want to sub-sort by date (I might have other fields displayed
that make more sense to me), so I'd argue that it's not broken; adding a
sub-sorting feature might be a reasonable next step, though. Doesn't
just sorting by date satisfy your requirements?

If you want to add sub-sorting as a feature, I'd recommend applying the
new version of the browse code, which is considerably more flexible and
easier to extend, and then making your changes there:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1702233&group_id=19984&atid=319984

Otherwise, you could add it to the Feature Request page in SourceForge.

Cheers,

Ah, an opportunity to blow my own trumpet twice in one morning ;)

There is a new browse patch available which allows complete
configuration of all browse options, including which fields to index,
which fields to permit sorting over, cross linking between browse
contexts, long field truncation (e.g. many authors), results page
customising, as well as significant performance improvements.

Enjoy it here:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1702233&group_id=19984&atid=319984

It also has an Oracle patch and is integrated with the sort field
normalisation work courtesy of Graham Triggs.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Custom Search Results

2007-05-14 Thread Monika Mevenkamp

In addition:

If you move to Manakin as the User Interface (it will become part of the
dspace 1.5 distribution and is currently available
here)
you can customize item displays as well through the use of themes. There are
some predefined themes which can be reused, modified, ...

If you are not a Java programmer this approach will be less involved but it
is still much more of an effort than changing the dspace.cfg file.

[Dspace-tech] DSpaceOnWindows page not visible from the Installation page

2007-05-14 Thread LeVan,Ralph
I went to the Wiki looking for the Windows installation instructions. I
found the Installation page reasonably easily, but there was no sign of
the Windows installation page. I knew such a page existed and a Google
search got me to it. I tried editing the installation page to correct
the omission and was blocked from doing that. I tried to edit the
issues page to report the problem and was blocked from editing that. I
couldn't find any signs of a link to an administrator, so I'm sending my
message here.

Sorry.

Please send your account name to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I will give you

If the lockdown is necessary, steps on how to get permission needs to
be documented on the Wiki. An unexplained lockout doesn't fit our
open community ethos. Installing a captcha extension (as
wikipedia.org has) should avoid automated sign-ups.

2007-05-14 Thread Jodi Schneider

For the meantime--before a captcha is enabled--a note on how to get in touch
with "an existing wiki editor"
would help.

Attempting to edit before logging in gives:
"Login required to edit:You have to
loginto edit
pages. See About
Protected Pagesfor
more information on getting permission to edit pages."

This includes the information required--except that the About page gives the
cryptic note:
"Get an existing wiki editor to add you to the DSpaceCadets group."

[Dspace-tech] license display for batch import items

2007-05-14 Thread Jayan Chirayath Kurian

I was trying to get the license display enabled using
webui.controlledvocabulary.enable = true in the DSpace config file. The
text that reads "This item is protected by original copyright" is
displayed for all items but the license hyperlink works only with items
submitted through DSpace submission interface. Please suggest how to
enable the license hyperlink feature for documents imported using batch
