[Dspace-tech] Titles for bitstreams
Hi all, Is it possible to add a bit more metadata for an item's bitstream, beyond the usual filename | size | format? I'm thinking especially of including a title for the bitstream. I will have cases where the item contains a dozen or even hundreds of bitstreams and, unless the file name is descriptive enough, clients will have to open multiple bitstreams in hopes of lucking across the one they're looking for. I'm also toying with the idea of providing different resolution versions of large images, and being able to indicate the resolution clearly for each bitstream would be a definite plus. I'm using XMLUI, by the way on version 1.5.1. [Dspace-tech] Special Groups
Hi I have published in my DSpace install blog information on installing DSpace 1.5.2 on CentOS 5.3 and getting DSpace/AD authentication working: http://www.linuxtraining.org.uk/blogger.html Now I am starting to wonder if anyone managed to get more than one special group working with DSpace with LDAP/AD authentication? What I am interested in is getting: - Staff users from AD automatically added to a staff special group in DSpace - Student users from AD automatically added to a student special group in Dspace. I understand this may involve writing code associated with the getSpecialGroups methods. Automatic group membership for staff and students in DSpace worked well with RADIUS authentication, but the RADIUS module won't work for me any longer :( Has anyone got this working with LDAP authentication I wonder? [Dspace-tech] Trying to make bitstream URLs accessible to discovery layer
Hi, Our library has a Koha catalogue for print items and a Dspace repository for PDFs, and we're trying to make both searchable through an Aquabrowser discovery layer. We've run into a problem with exposing the URLs of the PDF bitstreams to the discovery layer so that they can be included in the full record view. The discovery layer accesses our Dspace through OAI-PMH, and we've been looking into ways to alter the Dspace code so that it delivers the bistream URL information, but because of the way those URLs are generated, we're having trouble finding a way to do it. Does anyone have any advice for the best way to expose the PDF URLs to the discovery layer? Our Dspace info: -version 1.5.2 -running on Debian 5.0 Thanks! Re: [Dspace-tech] xmlui and itemCounter
Hi Wayne, The xmlui ignores the webui.strengths.show setting in dspace.cfg and delegates the decision whether or not to show the strengths to the theme that you are using. In the latest version of Dspace, the default theme is enabled to show the strengths. If you have webui.strengths.cache set to true (which it must be for them to appear in the xmlui) then you will need to periodically run [dspace]/bin/dsrun org.dspace.browse.ItemCounter to have the strengths updated. Hi Clive, The code you need to write will either need to go in the getSppecialGroups method, or in the authenticate method. Ideally it would go in the former, but it depends on whether you can derive the group you need to add the user to from their EPerson details. For example if you can tell from their netid or email whether they are staff or students, then you can write code in getSpecialGroups along the lines of if (context.getCurrentUser().getEmail().contains(@students.bromley.ac.uk) ) to decide if a user matches. However if the information cannot be derived from their EPerson information, but you need the information from their LDAP record (e.g. to look up group memberships) instead, then you'll have to add code in the authenticate method. You need to find where in the code the user gets authenticated, decide which groups to add the user to based upon their user profile, then use the api call context.setSpecialGroup(int groupID). I hope this helps, Stuart Lewis Digital Services Programmer Te Tumu Herenga The University of Auckland Library Auckland Mail Centre, Private Bag 92019, Auckland 1142, New Zealand Ph: 64 9 373-7599 x81928 http://www.library.auckland.ac.nz http://www.library.auckland.ac.nz/ / From: clive gould [mailto:cli...@gmail.com] Sent: Friday, 24 April 2009 2:12 a.m. To: dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [Dspace-tech] Special Groups Hi I have published in my DSpace install blog information on installing DSpace 1.5.2 on CentOS 5.3 and getting DSpace/AD authentication working: http://www.linuxtraining.org.uk/blogger.html Now I am starting to wonder if anyone managed to get more than one special group working with DSpace with LDAP/AD authentication? What I am interested in is getting: * Staff users from AD automatically added to a staff special group in DSpace * Student users from AD automatically added to a student special group in Dspace. I understand this may involve writing code associated with the getSpecialGroups methods. Automatic group membership for staff and students in DSpace worked well with RADIUS authentication, but the RADIUS module won't work for me any longer :( Has anyone got this working with LDAP authentication I wonder? [Dspace-tech] mvn downloading 1.5.2 artifacts
But wait!!! We are on 1.5.0!!! I started a mvn clean package on our production instance of DSpace. As it ran, I noticed that it was downloading certain pieces of information relating to DSpace 1.5.2. Re: [Dspace-tech] Trying to make bitstream URLs accessible to discoverylayer
Hi Dillon, Can Aquabrowser accept METS via OAI-PMH? METS is supported out of the box with Dspace + OAI-PMH, and contains a fileGrp containing all of the links to the PDF bitstreams. E.g.: http://researchspace.auckland.ac.nz/dspace-oai/request?verb=ListRecords; metadataPrefix=mets Thanks, Stuart Lewis Digital Services Programmer Te Tumu Herenga The University of Auckland Library Auckland Mail Centre, Private Bag 92019, Auckland 1142, New Zealand Ph: 64 9 373-7599 x81928 http://www.library.auckland.ac.nz http://www.library.auckland.ac.nz/ / From: Dillon Moore [mailto:dmo...@cigionline.org] Sent: Friday, 24 April 2009 4:35 a.m. To: DSpace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [Dspace-tech] Trying to make bitstream URLs accessible to discoverylayer Hi, Our library has a Koha catalogue for print items and a Dspace repository for PDFs, and we're trying to make both searchable through an Aquabrowser discovery layer. [Dspace-tech] Size of postgresql database
I'm trying to determine the disk space requirements for a new DSpace installation and I want to know if anybody can tell me what the size of the postgresql database would be for say every 10,000 items ingested, with an average (whatever that really equates to) amount of metadata. I want the size of the postgresql database, not the assetstore. Re: [Dspace-tech] mvn downloading 1.5.2 artifacts
Don't be alarmed, this is intended behavior with the language packs. Likewise, until you run ant update nothing you do in maven will have been pushed into your installation. Language packs are version ranged [1.5.0,1.6.0) so that as they are improved (new language/locales added) and corrected your installation will get those improvements just by running package. In fact, this is the real purpose/behavior of using Maven, that you can get the changes the dspace commiters intend to distribute to the community with little to no effort. The language packs are intended to be backward compatible (i.e. no files/properties should ever be removed in a maintenance branch) If you want to force your build back to a specific version of the language packs change the version allowed add it to your [dspace-source]/pom.xml in the dependencyManagement section. Likewise this applies for any other other dependency in maven, you can mediate which version is used by adjusting it in this section or in the poms themselves.
