Tim and Gaetano,

many thanks for your responses since both of them have worked.
They work also for the previous version of dspace and the addon.

Oggetto: [Dspace-tech] DRIVER OAI Extended Addon v2

 Hello

I'm trying to setup the OAI Extended Addon v.2 with the 1.6.2 version of
 dspace
 (http://projecto.rcaap.pt/index.php?option=com_remositoryItemid=2func=file
 infoid=321lang=en

 infoid=321lang=en)
to deal with the DRIVER directives (http://www.driver-repository.eu
 http://www.driver-repository.eu).
In fact, I tried the setup with the previous version of both the dspace and
 the addon with similar results.

I have followed the install doc but when running maven I get the following

Hi Anil,

Unfortunately, at this point in time DSpace does not have an online
document viewer out-of-the-box.

I agree it sounds like it could be a useful feature. However, we'd need
to find an interested volunteer developer or two to investigate existing

integrated with DSpace.

All, if anyone would like to volunteer to work on this (or has already

There are all sorts of possibilities for this. Is the term in the metadata

 Have you run filter-media?

There is a limit to the number of terms in a single field, could this be an
issue? (see documentation for configuration option:
 search.maxfieldlength).

Finally, can you find other terms in the same document?

If you can find other terms from the same document, but not the numbers,
then this would indicate it's the behaviour of BrazilianAnalyzer that is
causing the issue, for which you may get better responses directly from the

[Dspace-tech] Solr stats refresh

2011-01-04 Thread Germán Biozzoli
Hi people

I'm trying to get Dspace-Solr statistics to work in 1.70. It's seems
to be OK but it's not updated in real time, I mean that if anybody
visits an item or a collection, the number of accesses remain in the
old count. I've tried dspace index-update command, but it's seems to
update only Solr search cluster, isn't it? Also I've tried stats-util
but I can't see an option to update the index, only one to optimize,
should I use it as my cron task for update?

Thanks a lot

Re: [Dspace-tech] Online Document Viewer Functionality

2011-01-04 Thread Pottinger, Hardy J.
Hi, Tim, Anil, we are working on something here, I also believe Peter Dietz has
something in the works. Our approach is to use the xmoovStream pseudo-streaming
server [1], creating derivative Flash versions of already archived PDF files
using pdf2swf [2], and the FlexPaper viewer [3]. We're still in the testing
phases of this, but the solution will end up looking a lot like the approach
Stuart Lewis suggested here:
http://blog.stuartlewis.com/2009/05/27/easy-pseudo-video-streaming-for-dspace-repositories/
(note that Stuart links to lots of other helpful resources throughout this
posting, as do his commenters).

Since this approach dovetails with other streaming efforts (and that's what we
have waiting in the wings, so that's why we're doing it this way), I'd love to
work with anyone who's interested in coming up with a standardized XMLUI
theme option for handling streaming files.

The stats do update, however, for performance reasons, we've changed the

Re: [Dspace-tech] Online Document Viewer Functionality

2011-01-04 Thread Mark Diggory
Anil and the community,

It is actually untrue that there are no online document viewing
solutions for DSpace. @mire provides a very affordable addon for
DSpace that supplies the functionality you are seeking. The Document
Streaming module provides customizations for the DSpace XMLUI that
integrate it with the online document viewing service, Scribd
(http://scribd.com). It uses the same iPaper and flash approach
discussed earlier in the thread. DSpace content is pushed to Scribd
and a javascript viewing interface is linked to in the DSpace Item
View. It is quite effective for streaming access to larger documents
and for providing controlled access to DRM restricted content. It
comes with installation assistance by the @mire team and 1 year
technical support.

View more details about this addon:

See it in action:

Happy New Year.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Discovery plug-in reorder for 1.70

2011-01-04 Thread Kevin Van de velde
Hi Germán,

The reason why you can't find the xsl is because there is no special xsl to
render the discovery navigation.
So what I would suggest is that you create your own template in xsl to do
this, just take a look at the DRI from dspace demo site:
http://demo.dspace.org/xmlui/DRI/discover and you will find that the sidebar
is rendered in a list with id
'aspect.discovery.SimpleSearch.list.discovery'.
Below is a small example on how to place the discovery sidebar in a couple
of divisions.

 xsl:template
 match=dri:li...@id='aspect.discovery.SimpleSearch.list.discovery']
 div id=div1
 div id=div2
 xsl:apply-templates/
 /div
 /div
 /xsl:template

I hope I was able to solve your problem.

http://www.brasiliana.usp.br/bbd). Having mainly PDF documents (and some
JPEG images), we sought out some way to allow the user to view the documents
without having to download them, specially because our PDFs can get quite
large (they are scanned historical books).

We have implemented a set of solutions in order to get a PDF viewer and an
images viewer in our XMLUI theme, which in turn we have customized rather
deeply. We used the Adore
Djatokahttp://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/djatoka/index.phpimage
server with modifications to also serve normal JPEG files via JAI and
PDF files via ImageMagick (originally, Djatoka only serves JPEG2000 and TIFF
files).

At the client side we used two javascript viewers, one for PDFs and another
for images. For PDFs we customized the Internet Archive
BookReaderhttp://openlibrary.org/dev/docs/bookreader,
and for images we customized the Djatoka version of the IIPImage
viewerhttp://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/djatoka/index.php?title=Viewers
.

Besides modifying a large part of the XMLUI module, in which we also
included the Discovery module (since we were using DSpace 1.6.2), we also
had to modify a small part of the DSpace core in order to allow
communication between Djatoka and DSpace (essentially, to make it possible
to get the files' paths at the assetstore).

There are, of course, still lots of improvements to be done, but we are
planning on packing everything and making it available, so that more people
could try it and maybe help fixing and improving it.

To see it in action:
- For PDFs: http://www.brasiliana.usp.br/bbd/handle/1918/00624510;
- For images: http://www.brasiliana.usp.br/bbd/handle/1918/624510002.

Things may get slow sometimes, and the interface is only available in
Portuguese right now. But you should be able to get most of the ideas behind
the system.

If you happen to get interested, we can continue communication and try out
some collaboration. That would be great.

Best regards,
Fabio Kepler

[Dspace-tech] item mapper duration.

2011-01-04 Thread Blanco, Jose
We are in a situation where we are doing lots of item mapping and are finding
that if we choose to map one item to a collection it takes about 2 seconds, and
if we choose 2 items, it takes 4 sec, and 3 it takes 6 sec, and so on. In
looking at the code, I think that the creation of an item object for each item
being mapped is where the time is being eaten up. We have over 61,000 items in
our collection. I noticed that when I try this in our development environment,
there is no delay like the one I explained above.

Any suggestions?

-Jose

That sounds plausible. Can you find the number if you phrase search the two
parts - ie, 45 858?

 Hi,

There are all sorts of possibilities for this. Is the term in the metadata
(you need to ensure the metadata field is in the search configuration), or
 in a document file?

 Have you run filter-media?

There is a limit to the number of terms in a single field, could this be
an issue? (see documentation for configuration option:
 search.maxfieldlength).

Finally, can you find other terms in the same document?

If you can find other terms from the same document, but not the numbers,
then this would indicate it's the behaviour of BrazilianAnalyzer that is
causing the issue, for which you may get better responses directly from the
 Lucene community.

[Dspace-tech] dspace java upload limit

2011-01-04 Thread Mark Ludwig
I am trying to archive some filesystems
as zip files in DSpace.
It's unable to upload files of one Gbyte or more.
I set the upload.max parm in dspace.cfg to 4 Gbytes
but it has no effect, so I think this is some Java
restriction.
I'm getting:
java.io.IOException: Multipart element is too large and was discarded.
This is Tomcat 5.5.26
dspace 1.5.1
and jre-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64
on Fedora.
Is there some obvious java setting I need to make?
If so, how high can/should it go?
I have multi-gig files but wonder how
much to chop it up.
Thanks,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Discovery plug-in reorder for 1.70

2011-01-04 Thread Germán Biozzoli
Thank you very much Kevin
Perhaps my question is very basic, I've created my own theme copying
mirage theme, you're suggesting that I should modify navigation.xsl or
create a new xsl for the facets? I simply need to reorder the section
upside statistics or login section in navigation bar.

Regards
Germán

On Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 1:36 PM, Kevin Van de velde ke...@mire.be wrote:

Below is a small example on how to place the discovery sidebar in a couple
 of divisions.

 xsl:template
 match=dri:li...@id='aspect.discovery.SimpleSearch.list.discovery']
     div id=div1
     div id=div2
     xsl:apply-templates/
     /div
     /div
 /xsl:template

I hope I was able to solve your problem.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Google and DSpace

2011-01-04 Thread Tim Donohue
Hi Eric,

There's a guide to ensuring your DSpace instance is being indexed on our
Wiki at:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Ensuring+your+instance+is+indexed

A few things to note:
* As of DSpace 1.5.x, DSpace can generate SiteMaps, which can improve
how Google indexes your content.
* As of DSpace 1.7.0 (just released in December), DSpace now makes it
metadata more readily available to Google Scholar. We worked directly
with the Google Scholar developers to improve how DSpace 1.7 makes its
metadata available.
