[Dspace-tech] size of log files
Hi, After running our production server for almost a year, I have noticed that the log files generated by DSpace located in [dspace-installed-location]/log consume huge disk space. To make this clear, the assetstore uses about less than 50GB, but log files under log directory take more than 50GB! I wonder whether I have to keep all the log files... or I have a choice to have log files older than specified period removed. In case of removing old log files, will it affect the SOLR statistics ? Currently we are running 1.6.2, but planning to upgrade to 1.7.1 shortly. Your kind advice will be highly appreciated. Re: [Dspace-tech] Embargo and OAI interface
Hi Tonny: The embargo system is designed to protect bitstreams, not metadata. While it certainly would be possible to alter OAI or other code to check for embargo dates, this has not been done to the best of my knowledge. I am curious why, given that the content will be inaccessible, is it desirable to hide the metadata from harvesters? Re: [Dspace-tech] How to generate Thumbnail for Video
Hi Mark, It sounds like a very good solution for me as I don't have too many videos. But the problem is, how can we mark a image the thumbnail of a video. After we simply upload the image as the bitstream, what should I do to link the image as the video thumbnail? Or this can only be done in command line on the server? This is probably beyond the scope of DSpace. The best that an autonomous process could do for video is probably to extract the first frame and shrink it. That might not be a very good choice -- the first frame might not have the titling or anything else representative of the whole. The best I can come up with is to load the video into an editor, pick a frame that would make a good thumbnail, export it as a still image (JPEG, PNG), resample to an appropriate size, and add that to the Item as the thumbnail. Or the people who made the video may have prepared still images for promotional purposes -- ask them. There are probably a lot of tools that can export frames from videos. I just tried VLC (a player) and Cinelerra (an editor) and both worked well. -- Mark H. Re: [Dspace-tech] Embargo and OAI interface
We are in the middle of doing a implementation of Primo from Exlibris (integrated search - http://www.exlibrisgroup.com/category/PrimoOverview). Primo can harvest Dspace, but we don't want all the items where the full text is not public accessibly in Primo. We can't configure Primo not to harvest those items, Primo can only manipulate the harvested data. Re: [Dspace-tech] Problem during 1.7.1 compilation
Hi Kristian, It sounds like you might be compiling DSpace with an unsupported version of Maven. Try running 'mvn -version' to see what version you are using. There are known problems when using Maven 2.0. Currently, we recommend using Maven 2.2.x when building DSpace. For more information see our Installation Pre-requisites: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC/Installation#Installation-ApacheMaven2.2.x%28Javabuildtool%29 Good luck, - Tim On 5/6/2011 9:17 AM, Kristian Roberto Salcedo wrote: Hi all, I have a problem during compilation of version 1.7.1: When I run a maven build: cd /www/tmp/dspace-1.7.1-src-release/dspace/ mvn clean package the folder structure in the webapps-directory /www/tmp/dspace-1.7.1-src-release/dspace/target/dspace-1.7.1-build.dir/webapps/ is not being built correctly. [Dspace-tech] Conflict with mixing metadata schemas and batch ingest
I am using version 1.7. I hope I can convey the specifics of this complication correctly, please bare with me. I am helping to set up a DSpace repository to initially contain a Thesis collection, but then in the future to contain many collections of different types with their own metadata needs. We would really like to use custom metadata schemas to separate out the metadata specific to certain collections but also use qualified Dublin Core for all metadata. For, example for theses we would like to have a 'dc.thesis.degree', but you can only have the 'dc' prefix if you use the default metadata schema!!! Here are the specifics of the project: We are planning to use the batch ingest tool to load the retrospective thesis content (~20,000 items) into DSpace. We have decided upon using a specific standard set of Dublin Core metadata elements as defined by the NDLTD for ETDs (http://www.ndltd.org/standards/metadata/etd-ms-v1.00-rev2.html) Although these are Dublin Core elements, some are specific only to theses and we would therefore prefer to use a custom metadata schema to keep them separate from the default schema. The complication is 2 fold: 1) That DSpace uses the unique name of the metadata schema as the prefix for metadata elements but we would rather have the 'dc' prefix for any Dublin Core metadata whether from the default or custom metadata schemas. 2) While you can mix metadata elements for an item from multiple schemas in manual submission, for the batch ingest you can only specify a single schema for the batch. Ideally, I want to have a few custom DC metadata elements for theses in a custom metadata schema and mix these with the main DC elements for things like author and title, but have all metadata prefixed with 'dc'. Is there any way you can make DSpace to allow the 'name' of two different schemas to be 'dc' Thank you for any input you have into this. Re: [Dspace-tech] Conflict with mixing metadata schemas and batch ingest
I'm sorry about my confusion. I meant to say: 2) While you can mix metadata elements for an item from multiple schemas in manual submission, for the batch ingest you can only specify a single schema for an item in the metadata XML. -- View this message in context: http://dspace.2283337.n4.nabble.com/Conflict-with-mixing-metadata-schemas-and-batch-ingest-tp3504507p3504556.html Sent from the DSpace - Tech mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- WhatsUp Gold - Download Free Network Management Software The most intuitive, comprehensive, and cost-effective network management toolset available today.
