According to documentation [1], Ant 1.8.1 and Maven 3.0.1 should be
supported. The actual error points to a download error, so I suggest
you follow my instructions. Anyway, there's no harm in upgrading Ant
to the latest version 1.8.4.

You could try with Ant 1.8.2, Maven 2.2.1 instead. In my case, the
compilation works fine.

If I understand you correctly, you think that rights for submission
and editing are separate. But they aren't, there's just READ and
WRITE.

What you could do is remove the rights after they make the submission
(if that makes sense in your use case).

I'm still hoping someone else will say another approach is possible.

Hi Hayden,

the approach that comes to me naturally is to make a group of
collection admins and put those epersons there. They would also have
permanent edit access to items in that collection, which might be
undesirable (they could edit each other's items).

Maybe there's also another approach I'm not familiar with.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Changing Browse layout in JSPUI

2012-10-18 Thread Darren Arsenault
Hi Gary,

I did a full rebuild, using the following commands:

cd [dspace-source]
mvn clean package
cd dspace/target/dspace-1.8.0-build/
ant -Dconfig=D:/dspace/config/dspace.cfg update

After this failed, and I sent the email to the community, I experimented with
the BrowseListTag.java class. I added my desired column to the static
initializer block in that class, effectively changing the classes DEFAULTs to
include my new column. After rebuilding the new column appears just as it
should have originally. This would seem to indicate that, for whatever unknown
reason, the BrowseListTag.java class is always using its DEFAULTs rather than
what it has read (or attempted to read) from the configuration file. While I
have achieved the desired outcome by editing the Tag directly, I am still
investigating this matter as this is not the correct behaviour.

Does anyone have any tips/guides/HOW-TOs on debugging DSpace? It would be very
nice to be able to step through the code at runtime and see what is happening.

Thanks for any and all assistance!

Did you do an "ant init_configs" to copy the dspace.cfg changes over?

In 1.8.0 I believe the procedure for rebuilding is:

cd [dspace-source]
mvn package
cd dspace/target/dspace-1.8.0-build/

Hi all,

I have a question about changing the browse layout in jspui (DSpace Vers:
1.8.0):

I have edited dspace.cfg uncommenting the line:
# webui.itemlist.columns = thumbnail, dc.date.issued(date), dc.title,
dc.contributor.*

and adding a column for the TYPE:

webui.itemlist.columns = thumbnail, dc.date.issued(date), dc.title,
dc.contributor.*, dc.type.*

But when I restart Tomcat (as per the How-To-Guide) there was no change. I then
did a full rebuild, copied the new files to Tomcat, and restarted it. Also no
change. Is there something that I am missing here? I had thought that this

2012-10-18 Thread Vlastimil Krejcir
   Hi Sean and others,

I just want to add a note - Tomcat behaviour is quite strange and is
discussed from time to time again and again (as long as I'm subscribed
in this mailing list). You closed it with a conclusion of "bad RAM". Well,
uhh, you'll see :-). But what you described is very similar to the Tomcat
behaviour I can sometimes observe:

Tomcat seems to be running (ps ax | grep tomcat), but no response or
timeouting. No usefull info in logs. The solution is to restart the Tomcat
- I restart it once a day. And I have a "watch" script testing if Tomcat
is running correctly and if not then the "watch" restart him (this can
include kill -9 restart because sometimes Tomcat doesn't want to terminate
himself correctly).

Re: [Dspace-tech] Import data -Mapfile

2012-10-18 Thread helix84
Hi Hatem,

there are three problems with the file you sent:

1) This is not your fault, but the file you sent me contains a BOM
(byte order mark) and DSpace will interpret it as part of the first
column identifier, that's why it throws the error message. We should
fix this in DSpace. Meanwhile, for this reason and others, I recommend
you to use OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice to work with CSV files
instead of Excel.

2) Your first row contains id "1". This would modify an item with
item.item_id=1 in your database, which would have to exist. If you
wanted to add a new item instead, use "+". During import, DSpace will
assign a new item_id, which you'll get back when you do an export of
the same item.

3) The third line contains empty data (only commas - column
separators). This must be removed.

Regards,
~~helix84
