 How to config dspace to send email with *content=text/html*

Well, first you would have to rewrite some DSpace code so that it
produces email bodies which actually *are* HTML.

Then set aside some time to deal with all of the people who will
complain that you are now sending them ugly HTML mail instead of nice
clean text/plain. Perhaps extend the EPerson class and the table
behind it to add a profile field for preferred email format, and then
extend the user interface so that users can set this preference.

The actual change in MIME type will probably happen mostly in
dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/core/Email.java.

[Dspace-tech] AddThis breaks subsequent code

2013-10-09 Thread David Arromba
Hello everybody,

I am using DSpace 3.0 with an XMLUI theme based on Manakin.

I am trying to add code from the AddThis http://addthis.com service,
which allows for easy sharing on social networks. I added the code to
item-view.xsl and so far, I have had mixed results varying from browser to
browser:

   - In Firefox, it does not appear and breaks the rest of the site (ie.
   any code that follows it, like ds-options sidebar and footer)
   - In Chrome, it appears with glitches, but breaks the rest of the site
   - In Safari, it appears with glitches, and does not break the rest of
   the site

Here is the code story: http://pastie.org/private/jrhcbb2b4jzqm5h3odplmw
And here is a live example: http://tinyurl.com/nl4ajte

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

dspace.url is the same as dspace.baseUrl. I have changed the owner of the

Re: [Dspace-tech] SimpleREST - RESTfulish interface for 3.x DSpace instances.

2013-10-09 Thread Peter Dietz
Hi Anis,

I did a quick read-through of the code for SimpleREST for DSpace.

First-off, cheers, thank you for sharing your work. I'll second the notion
that activity in the topic of REST API for DSpace is a good thing.

Some of my key take-aways are:
- This uses Restlet as the rest api engine. This is a pretty promising
framework to work with.
- Looks to support all endpoints and many actions
- Is Create / Read / Update / Delete
- Uses stubs to represent DSpaceObjects, into generic objects to aid in
serializing
- Supports JSON, XML/HTML

However, I'm not sure I trust the authentication routine of this...
fi.helsinki.lib.simplerest.BaseResource.java
String s = getContext().getParameters().getFirstValue(adminID);
adminId = Integer.parseInt(s);
Context context = new Context();
EPerson ePerson = EPerson.find(context, adminId);
context.setCurrentUser(ePerson);

I think that adminID is being set in web.xml, thus the REST API, is always
authenticated as who-ever you statically configure that setting to. I'm
thinking that for authentication, we'll want the client to the API, to
provide a key/token/username-password to prove they are that user with
great powers.

The amount of effort going into the serialization process (specifically for
XML) looks quite cumbersome.

[Dspace-tech] Increase dspace banner/logo width

Hi everyone,

I am using dspace3.2 jspui running in ubuntu. How can we increase the banner
width of dspace logo which is displayed in the home page? I basically need to
replace the dspace logo with our institutional banner. I replaced the
dspace-blue.gif file with our new banner and changed the banner width in
header-default.jsp file. I get the new banner displayed in the home page, but
the banner size is just as small as the original dspace logo...I need to
increase the width. Any help?

Thanks,

2013-10-09 Thread Anis Moubarik
Hello and thanks for your words Peter.

I have to look into authentication, it's true that static password in
a config file is not the best way to go.

XML serialization is cumbersome, but the format it produces is used
already in our internal projects, and XML serialization is foreign to
me so I have to do some research on it.

SimpleREST is still pretty much work in progress, and hopefully
sometime in the future I can submit it as an candidate for official
