[Dspace-tech] Dspace upgrade to 4 from 3.2

I am running dspace 3.2 in Ubuntu..Now I want to upgrade to dspace 4. I used 
the below howto for the upgrade:

Build and everything was fine. I did appropriate changes in the dspace 4 
dspace.cfg file.

Now after the [dspace-source]/dspace/etc/postgres/database_schema_3-4.sql 
command, I restarted tomcat and postgres. Still I get my dspace 3.2 web page 
while browsing my dspace url. Is there anything specific we need to tell to 
take the new dspace.cfg or anything else?

Any help is very much appreciated.

In newer versions of DSpace, run the community filiator like so:
dspace\bin\dspace community-filiator
(plus any arguments)

Use the community-filiator tool [1]. In this example, the subcommunity
123465789/456 is owned by the 123456789/123 community and this will
make 123465789/456 a top-level community:

[dspace]/bin/dspace community-filiator --remove --parent=123456789/123
--child=123465789/456

I am trying to customize the email in Dspace 3.2 and 4.0 to send them in 
Spanish languge. I write it in Spanish in the file located at 
{dspace}/conf/emails and it looks like this:

[Dspace-tech] linebreak in metadata

I will be ingesting some items using item import and the
description.abstract field has linebreaks in it. I notice that the
line breaks are lost in the display - is there a way to keep them?  I
can break up the abstract so that I import multiple abstacts so that I
get the affect of a linebreak.  Is there any other solution?

[Dspace-tech] thumbnail description

Hi all!

DSpace 3.2, jspui.

In my item list, I would like to add a column sort of like thumbnail, but
instead of an image, I would like to make it appear as it does in the item
display, that is, text only, with format and size -- for instance, "PDF
(789 KB)"

Any suggestions on how I might go about accomplishing this?

Thank you for reporting the problem. The theme was probably developed
on DSpace 1.8 which didn't have these sort options. I created a Jira

Yes, sorry, this is jspui.  The backslash was kindly added by my email
client!

Discovery *is* enabled, and my hunch (like yours) is that this was meant
for the old style browse.  I am hoping somebody can confirm that.

Ultimately, my goal is to have a similar display with

/browse?type=title

as I have with

/browse?type=dateissued

In the latter case, the columns are those specified by
webui.itemlist.columns.  In the former, I have just title...

I haven't used this myself, so I don't have a definitive answer for
you, but here are a few quick sanity checks:

* This is a JSPUI-only options. Are you using JSPUI? (see etiquette link below)
* You have a backslash in "con\tributor" - I assume this is a typo in
email, not in your configuration.
* Do you have Discovery enabled? The option might have been only for
old browse, but I'm not sure.

[Dspace-tech] config question

Hi all!

Can anyone explain how the option

webui.itemlist.browse..columns

is supposed to work?  For example, I tried the following:

webui.itemlist.browse.dc.title.columns = dc.date.issued(date), dc.title,
dc.con\tributor.*

and what I expected to see was these three columns when browsing titles.
 However, I continue to see simply the title.

Am I doing something wrong, or am I misunderstanding what this option is
supposed to do?

[Dspace-tech] Ansible playbook to deploy DSpace

Hey, all.

I spent yesterday afternoon writing an Ansible playbook[0] for deploying
DSpace on Ubuntu 12.04.  Ansible is an infrastructure orchestration
framework, similar to Chef, Puppet, etc.  I like it because it doesn't
need daemons or databases, and just piggybacks over SSH and uses vanilla
Python 2.6+.

The playbook is still kinda rough around the edges, but does work!  The
focus is a bit different than the vagrant-dspace[1] stuff, which is more
geared toward quickly spinning up VMs for hacking on (and testing)
DSpace master, whereas I wanted to short-circuit the setup process for
new DSpace servers for our environment (since I seem to be setting up a
lot of testing/production environments lately, both virtual and physical).

Check it out, try it, and send me pull requests. :)
