Hi,

Thank you so much for your reply, but when I ran the conversion script from the
old version 1.6, I realized that all the “$i.solr” converted files have size =
0 , is this normal?

Dear All,

I upgraded our dspace from version 1.6 to version 3.2, also I changed the
servers and the URLs, everything went correctly, except the statistics;
What is the best way to import the old statistics data from the old version and
server of 1.6 to the new server and version of 3.2? (bearing in mind that I
switched the URL from https://ecommons.lau.edu.lb:8443/xmlui to
https://laur.lau.edu.lb:8443/xmlui ).

No that is not normal, unless your log file is also zero?

I compared previous file

previous file:

=> so it seems that the location of the file
maven-metadata-sonatype-releases.xml has been permanently changed...
Same problem with the file
.m2/repository/org/dspace/dspace-xmlui-lang/maven-metadata-sonatype-releases.xml.
Attempt to clean the local .m2 repository does not
help.

How to fix this ? Thanks in advance !

Hi Päivi,

We also encountered this problem recently and it appears that something has
changed on the sonatype side.
The fix we where able to come with it was to use maven 3 instead of maven 2
to build our DSpace.

Hope this helps,

Kind regards,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Best OS for DSpace

2014-04-03 Thread Vlastimil Krejcir
   Hello,

the best one is the one you want. Your favorite OS is good choice
because you probably know it very well so you can quickly solve any
troubles. Among various OSes we have/had DSpace on several
distros (Debian, Mint, Gentoo, Fedora and even Windows 7) without
significant troubles - so the choice is yours.

I can recommend Debian for production environment, because every
version has a quite long support (and version upgrades are not so often).

catalina.out contains lots of errors. We probably should have covered
things like environment first. I was assuming Linux, but I did not ask.

The problem you run into are the space characters in the path.
(C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 7.0\)
Please install Tomcat into a different directory without all the white
spaces. (e.g. C:\Programs\Apache\Tomcat7.0)

Yes, but it should only be the 'dspace.dir' setting which will need
updating.

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace becomes unresponsive, and I'm out of ideas

2014-04-03 Thread George Stanley Kozak
Steve:

I am not sure if this is your problem, but I found at our site that we usually
have a problem like this if we are being hammered by harvesters. It seems to
me that multiple harvesting of DSpace content can trigger a runaway java
process (I could be wrong, but that’s my theory). Do you have a robots.txt
file set up? Also, do you have a sitemap set up? Either of these can help,
but won’t totally fix the problem. Another thing might be to adjust the java
opts in your tomcat. I don’t know how much memory to have to play around with,
but I am using:
JAVA_OPTS="-server -Xms1024m -Xmx2048m -Xmn64m -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
-XX:+UseParallelGC -verbose:gc -Xloggc:/dspace/dspace/log/gc.log
-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:PermSize=1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m
-XX:-UseGCOverheadLimit"

These days I am restarting tomcat once a week (usually on Friday evenings) to
fix our java heap problems. I know some other DSpace users restart their
tomcat every day.
By the way, I am running DSpace 1.8.2 using Tomcat 7.

Subject: [Dspace-tech] DSpace becomes unresponsive, and I'm out of ideas

We're having continuing performance problems with our DSpace server. We're
running version 1.6.2 on RHEL 4, so, yeah, everything is old. But service has
been reliable, mostly, until recently.

The symptom is that DSpace will become "unresponsive" at the browser. Checking
the server, we'll typically find that the java process is running at 170% cpu,
so my guess is a runaway process, which explains the slow/no response. But why?

Checking the logs, both dspace.log and catalina.out, gives no real clue.
dspace.log is typically full of broken pipe errors, but these are,I guess,
another symptom. We also get broken pipe errors through the day, even when
DSpace is running normally.

Possibly unrelated, we also periodically find that dspace.log has filled up all
available disk space -- more than 100GB! With a file that large, it's difficult
to scroll through, but I've not found any obvious answers there.

So I'm out of ideas here as to where to even look for cause.

(And yes, I've already had the upgrade idea. Not currently an option I'm
afraid.)

Can anyone help with suggestions?

Re: [Dspace-tech] problem with build failing in Dspace 3.2

2014-04-03 Thread Kiriaki Roditi

Hello Päivi and everybody interested,

I dealt the same error just yesterday with a DSpace 3.1 build.
This is how I managed to complete the build successfully:
Sonatype has changed the URL from http to https, so you need to change
this in your [dspace-src]/pom.xml
But you also need to force maven to find the new sonatype URL. In order
to do that delete (or if you want to be super safe cut to another
directory) the folders dspace-api and dspace-api-lang from your local
.m2 repository, like you already tried as stated in your email. To
determine which are the faulty .m2 repository directories, check the
date they were modified. It should be when your build failed.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Kiriaki

Re: [Dspace-tech] problem with build failing in Dspace 3.2

2014-04-03 Thread Hilton Gibson
Isn't this is a bug with the pom.xml file.
I think this happens with new installs.
Upgrades are Ok, it seems, since the Sonatype files are already in the .m2
folder.
This was my first problem during our upgrade from 1.8.2 to 3.2.
I simply copied all the files in the .m2 folder from a working test system
to do our fix.

Cheers

Re: [Dspace-tech] DSpace becomes unresponsive, and I'm out of ideas

2014-04-03 Thread Jason Sherman
Steve,

I've previously dealt with performance penalties with particular combos of
Java and Tomcat versions.
Was your Java or Tomcat recently updated?
What version of Java are you using?
What exact version of Tomcat are you on? eg. 7.x.x
What is your logging level set to in log4j.properties?

Re: [Dspace-tech] problem with build failing in Dspace 3.2

2014-04-03 Thread Kiriaki Roditi

I honestly do not know what this is.
Trying to solve this, I found (in a 2012 thread unrelated to DSpace,
which I unfortunately did not save) that this failure was caused by a
bad http redirection. But why now?
In my case it occurred in a rebuild after some .java files modifications
in a working 3.1 installation. Prior to this my latest build must have
been around 8 months ago and it worked fine.
I am kind of speculating here but notice that we all dealt with it
during a version 3 build. Is that relevant?

Best regards,
Kiriaki

Hello Päivi and everybody interested,

I dealt the same error just yesterday with a DSpace 3.1 build.
This is how I managed to complete the build successfully:
Sonatype has changed the URL from http to https, so you need to
change this in your [dspace-src]/pom.xml
But you also need to force maven to find the new sonatype URL. In
order to do that delete (or if you want to be super safe cut to
another directory) the folders dspace-api and dspace-api-lang from
your local .m2 repository, like you already tried as stated in
your email. To determine which are the faulty .m2 repository
directories, check the date they were modified. It should be when
your build failed.

Hope this helps.
