[Dspace-tech] DSpace 3.1 XMLUI all the URLs not clickable

2013-02-21 Thread Han, Yan
Hello,
I am getting DSpace 3.1 installed in local machine, and imported a few items.
In /jspui/ everything is fine, and I can view "full item record", and I can
download the pdf through "view/open". But in /xmlui/ interface, all the URLs
are not clickable. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

[Dspace-tech] Permanently delete an item

2012-01-25 Thread Han, Yan
Hello, All,

I know that deleting an item can use "[dspace]/bin/import --delete
--mapfile=mapfile". The documentation also says that "

9.7.6. Deleting Registered Items

If a registered item is deleted from DSpace, either interactively or by using
the --delete or --replace flags described in Importing
Items,
the item will disappear from DSpace but it's registered content files will
remain in place just as they were prior to registration. Bitstreams not
registered but added by DSpace as part of registration, such as license.txt
files, will be deleted."

All the files imported stored in "assetstore" directory.
It seems to me that using the above command line only remove the item from
database, but not permanently from "assetstore". Is there another way to
permanently delete an item?

Thanks,

Yan

[Dspace-tech] Feature for DSpace: dictionary

2011-12-21 Thread Han, Yan
Hello, All,
We have some Pashuto/Dari materials, which have metadata in English, but not in
original languages. My thinking is to create a dictionary plug-in, which will
function like spelling suggestions. So two questions here:

1. Does DSpace have a spelling suggestion plug-in or module such as "Did
you mean" ?

2. Does DSpace have a dictionary plug-in/module (Google Translate kind-of
plugin) that I can include any dictionary (e.g. English-Pashuto in my case, but
could be English-Spanish, English-French) so that when users search, a returned
page could have a translation suggestion ?
If not, I am thinking of creating one.
Any thoughts?

2011-12-08 Thread Han, Yan
Hello,
I am wondering if anyone is writing a mobile interface for DSpace? Search the

[Dspace-tech] Pre-determined Handle? for Batch ingestion

2011-07-29 Thread Han, Yan
We have some records has pre-determined identifiers for ETDs (e.g.
azu_etd_11015). These records are also loaded to our catalog. We use batch
ingestion for Both Catalog and DSpace.
Are there anyone who pre-set handles for Batch ingestion for DSpace? In other
words, if I can have pre-determined handles such as
http://hdl.handle.net/1721.123/azu_etd_11015 for the case of record
(azu_etd_11015), it will be great to save time not to wait for getting assigned
handles before DSpace ingestion. In this case, the handle is known before
ingestion to DSpace and Catalog.

Thanks,

Yan

[Dspace-tech] assign pre-determined URL

2010-12-01 Thread Han, Yan
Hello,
I would like to assign a pre-determined URL for an item. For example, the item
with file name: "hc418_h4_b37_1994" should have a URL like
http://url/subdir/hc418_h4_b37_1994.
Since there are thousands of items, it must be in a batch process (or in batch
import process). How can I do so?
Thanks,
Yan

[Dspace-tech] Search bugs: DSpace original installation v.s. Manakin : not working for Persian characters

2010-03-16 Thread Han, Yan
Hello,
I have Dspace 1.5.2 installed along with Manakin (/xmlui). There are bugs on
the search.
In DSpace default setting, http://184.73.243.18:8080/jspui/ both “search” and
“advanced search” do not work for Persian characters. For example,
Title “برخورد جهان اسلام با مسئله افغانستان
This seems to be something related to “post” and “get”.
However, In Manakin, http://184.73.243.18:8080/xmlui/
The simple search does not work, but advanced search works.
It seems to me that changing the search code, and re-compiling the code is not
a good way to solve this.

Does DSpace 1.6 fix this problem? If not, what is the way to fix this?

Thanks,
Yan

Re: [Dspace-tech] Bug (?) opening a PDF in IR via firefox

2009-01-30 Thread Han, Yan
This is a long existing issue with Firefox to handle big PDF. Probably
should report to Firefox. I do not know if others know how to deal with
this.

You can use IE and Safari to open these PDFs.

Subject: [Dspace-tech] Bug (?) opening a PDF in IR via firefox

I'm going to guess this is related to the default functionality of how
firefox opens PDFs, but I'll ask here anyway. The collection admin for
a particular section of our IR wrote me saying that she was getting an
error opening a PDF from the IR. She would get the error "The file is
damaged and could not be repaired" from Adobe Acrobat. If she right
clicked and saved as... to her computer and opened it it was fine. It
also opened fine from IE. My guess is that Acrobat is trying to open
the file before it has actually completed downloading. The file is
27mb, so that could potentially be the issue.

It works fine from my mac and firefox browser, however.

Is this a problem anyone else has run into? If so, is it something
that can be "fixed" from DSpace's end?

Thanks.
