[Dspace-tech] Google Analytics

2012-03-07 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi,
Where can I include the script for Google Analytics in Dspace 1.8.1? This
option is active or are there deprecated?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Advise on Upgrade of DSpace Versions and Problems with Data Migration

2012-03-13 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi Andrew,
I migrate successfully from 1.4.2 to 1.8.1 the items that we have in the older
version. I follow these procedure:
1. Install the new version (1.8.1) in a new server (Red Hat 6.2) and
verify that It is working well. http://bibliodigital.itcr.ac.cr:8080/xmlui
2. Create the communities and collections same as they were in the old
version.
3. Use the itemexport procedure in version 1.4.2 to export all items of
each collection (one collection at a time).
4. Import items with the itemimport in the new version (1.8.1). Also
one collection at a time.
5. Run the index init process in the new version
6. Run the process " update-handle-prefix" to adjust the handles (view
the section " Updating Existing Handle Prefixes" in Dspace 1.8 manual)
7. Verify that all is OK.
I hope that this procedure help you.

Data Migration

Dear DSpace technical team,
What is the solution to failure of data migration. We have a test server where
we installed a later version of dspace. Our old site is running on version
1.3.1. We have attempted to migrate data from the old site to the new site but
in vain. The system simply generates errors.
Could it be that the two versions have incompatible database structures?
Please advise. Is fresh data entry the fall back solution or is there a
possibility to succeed at data migration.

Secondly what is the best way to upgrade from such an old version as 1.3.1 to
the latest version, having skipped many versions in between? Advise will be
highly appreciated.

Rahul,

Do you have configured a firewall that block the access to Dspace or Tomcat? Do
you have access directly from the server console to the application? If you
have a firewall disable it temporally to test the access to Dspace.

If not, then it's likely that your XMLUI web application is not installed
properly in Tomcat. Tomcat will return a 404 error if it doesn't understand
what the application is that you are trying to access. You need to be sure that
the [dspace]/webapps/xmlui/ web application folder is EITHER copied over to
[tomcat]/webapps/ OR Tomcat is configured to load the [dspace]/webapps/xmlui/
folder at the "/xmlui" path.

In addition, you may wish to check your Tomcat & DSpace logs to see if any
other specific errors appear there (and send those errors to dspace-tech) For
information on locating errors in those logs see:

Re: [Dspace-tech] Tomcat error after upgrading to Dspace 1.7.2

2012-03-15 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi
Some proxy servers generate a 404 error when the remote host is not present,
rather than returning the correct 500-range code when errors such as hostname
resolution failures or refused TCP connections prevent the proxy server from
satisfying the request. This can confuse programs that expect and act on
specific responses, as they can no longer easily distinguish between an absent
web server and a missing web page on a web server that is present.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace 1.8 Active Directory Authentication Configuration

2012-03-26 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi,
I am using Active Directory authentication in our Dspace and the following
lines define our configuration file for LDAP authentication:

enable = true
autoregister = true
provider_url = ldap://
id_field = sAMAccountName
object_context = dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
search_context = dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
email_field = mail
sername_field = sn
givenname_field = givenName
phone_field = telephoneNumber

# Hierarchical LDAP Settings #
search_scope = 2
search.user = cn=,ou=,...,ou=,dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
search.password =
netid_email_domain = @itcr.ac.cr

Active directory require that you specify the "Hierarchical LDAP Settings" to
work well.

Is there any way I could limit a system administrator's functionality?
It seems a system administrator can do anything or has overall
functionality.

Example: He CAN create/edit a top level community or sub-community but
CANNOT create its collection. A community administrator of that
particular community is the only one who can create a collection.

What part of DSpace can I configure to implement this? Thank you for
your response.

How can we resolve the failure of automated data migration due to this
difference in the names of the dspace communities and collections in the
two dspace versions? Is it possible to program the data migration process
regardless of these changes?

The background to this is that we have an upgrade dspace site. However the
names of the communities on the interface of the old dspace version site
are different from the names of the communities on the interface of the
website of the upgraded dspace version.

Secondly, in our old site we had document types as collections, where as
in the new site we do not have document types as collections

Hi,

thank you for your interest in this work. Te feature did not make it into
DSpace 5 in its current form. You can read the specific context here:
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-2169

However, you can still get the contributed code from:
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/pull/668

One of the challenges with the existing implementation is that it is not
integrated with the DSpace 5 ORCID functionality.
My personal 2 cents are that it would be nice to have an author profile page
that reads from the ORCID related authority cache, instead of custom database
tables.

best regards,

Bram

[Dspace-tech] Activate Discovery in Dspace 3.2

2013-11-25 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi all,
I am having problems to run discovery in Dspace 3.2. I follow the instructions

Re: [Dspace-tech] Activate Discovery in Dspace 3.2

2013-11-26 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi all,
Thanks a lot to all. At last I could configure discovery. Someone should change
the DSpace manual to adjust the installation instructions that are leading to
error: Section 6.8.3 "Enabling Discovery" step 3, that specify the following:

3. Check that the port is correct for solr.search.server in
config/modules/discovery.cfg
If all of your traffic runs over port 80, then you need to remove the port from
the URL

# Search Indexing #
solr.search.server = http://localhost/solr/search

Hi Oscar,

you mentioned solr.search.server, but in DSpace 3.x the property is only called
search.server and is located in [dspace]/config/modules/discovery.cfg. If
you're running Tomcat on port 8080, its correct value should be
http://localhost:8080/solr/search

Also check similar Solr URLs in
[dspace]/config/modules/solr-statistics.cfg and [dspace]/config/modules/oai.cfg
if you use those, but the one above is used in Discovery.

Hello Oscar,

This seems like an encoding issue.
You need to set email encoding to utf-8. This is set
1) in your dspace.cfg file, to make sure all emails DSpace sends are composed
in utf-8
mail.charset = UTF-8
or
2) in the email template you need to send as UTF-8, by adding the following
property
   charset:
(This is described in dspace.cfg, but I haven't used it myself)

Kiriaki

[Dspace-tech] Customize messages.xml files

2013-12-20 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi all,
I install Dspace 4.0 and for now it Works well, but when I try to customize the
i18n messages files the application set its default to messages.xml (default
English language). As a proof, I only modify the parameter:
Repositorio Dspace
versión 4.0 in the messages_es.xml. Also create a locale
messages_es_CR.xml and do the same change. The result is that the Mirage
interface returns to English version of the messages.xml file.

Does anybody know what is happen?

[Dspace-tech] LDAP authentication in Dspace 4.0

2014-01-28 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi all,
Before Dspace 4.0, the LDAP authentication recognize the email account from the
security server and use it as Dspace userid for persons. In Dspace 4.0 the LDAP
authentication process create a new account with the id_field (sAMAccountName
in Active Directory) in place of the email_field used by Dspace 3.2 and before.

I want to use a unified method to register eperson with the email account as
userid for password or LDAP authentication process.

Can any help me, please?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Ldap Authentification and profile

2014-02-19 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi All,
I am using Windows Active Directory to validate user in Dspace versions 1.8,
3.1 and 3.2 and it works fine. I use a special bind user account to validate
users in AD. When user is new it create, Dspace creates the account using the
email so the user can receive alerts and notifications. I proof this in Dspace
4.0 and the results are different, if user is new the account in Dspace is
created with the uid instead of email and the email was lost, so the user
cannot receive alerts and notifications. The authenticate-ldap.conf file is the
same for all installations.

Is this a change direction in Dspace 4.0 to validate users using LDAP?

I appreciate your help to solve this problem in Dspace 4.0

Cheers,

OK, now I'm a bit lost. Can you tell me again what your problem was before you
set email_field = uid and what your problem is now?

You're testing in JSPUI, right? Can you also always try the same thing in
XMLUI? It should be the same, I just want to confirm it.

> Any chance to get the fields surname_field =sn, givenname_field =givenName,

I've seen a situation where there was a null appended to the value of these
fields but I'm not sure I've heard of a situation where they would be empty (it
certainly works for me). If you bind with LDAP with the same user you're trying
to log in to DSpace with, does that user see these attributes? My thinking here
is that this might be a problem with your LDAP setup, not in DSpace. If this is
the case, it might be worked around using the initial bind (with a user who has
access to these attributes).

[Dspace-tech] Using LDAP in Dspace 4.0

Hi all,
I can't achieve that Dspace 4.0 create a new user using the email as the user

The values of the parameters are:

For Dspace 3.2

enable = true
autoregister = true
provider_url = ldap://AD-Server:389/
id_field = sAMAccountName
object_context =  dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
search_context = dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
email_field = mail
surname_field = sn
givenname_field = givenName
phone_field = telephoneNumber
# Hierarchical LDAP Settings #
search_scope = 2

search.user = cn=Usuario
Biblioteca,ou=Usuarios-Aplicaciones,ou=CentroComputo,ou=Area
Administrativa,ou=Cartago,ou=Usuario,dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
search.password = password
netid_email_domain = @itcr.ac.cr

For Dspace 4.0

enable = true
autoregister = true
provider_url = ldap://AD-Server:389/
id_field = sAMAccountName
object_context = dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
search_context = dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
email_field = mail
surname_field = sn
givenname_field = givenName
phone_field = telephoneNumber
# Hierarchical LDAP Settings #
search_scope = 2
search.user = cn=Usuario Biblioteca, ou=Usuarios-Aplicaciones,
ou=CentroComputo, \
  ou=Area Administrativa, ou=Cartago, ou=Usuario,dc=itcr,dc=ac,dc=cr
search.password=password
netid_email_domain = @itcr.ac.cr

As you can see, the both configuration are identical but only in Dspace 3.2
works fine.

The change might be a consequence of this bugfix:
https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/commit/88b9d8fe78bb990d777c315abb31dcd823a5a208

What were your values of id_field, email_field and netid_email_domain during
the 3.2 and 4.0 results you shown above?

You can copy the following files from the 3.x source to the 4.x source:
dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/authenticate/LDAPAuthentication.java
dspace/config/modules/authentication-ldap.cfg

I think you need to set email_field = sAMAccountName. This is a limitation of
DSpace (as described in [1] and possibly others) in that it assumes you use the
email address to log in to DSpace (it doesn't have to be in email format,
though). Then you may try to keep netid_email_domain = @itcr.ac.cr to see if an
email address is properly formed. If not, it's possible that DSpace won't be
able to send email to your users, depending on your format of sAMAccountName.

Helix84,
Thank you for your interest. I don't know if the eperson have rights to access
their own attributes because the security server y administrated by other IT
personnel in my Institution. I hope that the Dspace team development take this
in account and revert the changes to Dspace 3.2 functionality, at least for
LDAP validation. I am comfortable with Dspace 3.2 but it's important to
maintain upgraded to last version.

Does the eperson have the right in LDAP to access their own attributes? Because
DSpace will attempt to access them as the user (even if you set a search user
who has the rights).

I don't think I can help you with this right now. This requires a bit larger
rework of the assumptions in the DSpace auth system. You could try to do some
code changes manually. The auth modules are the most self-contained pieces of
code in DSpace (i.e. you don't need to edit outside the LDAPAuthentication.java
file), so it's a good place to start playing with the code.

[Dspace-tech] Xmlui messages customization in Dspace 4.1

2014-06-10 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Hi all,
I need to modify the messages_es.xml file from xmlui/i18n, but if I change
anything in it, the web interface only appears in English language and the
Spanish interface will never display, even if I select the Spanish language
preference at top right option in the page.

Can any help me on how to modify this file for display the Spanish xmlui

[Dspace-tech] Search results in non english language

2013-10-02 Thread Oscar Sanchez Gomez
Dear Community,

How can I resolve the issue of searching strings that have special characters
like spanish language. I am using Dspace 3.2, Postgresql 9.3, tomcat 7 and Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4. Also I configured the Discovery service.

I configure the Postgresql as es_CR.utf8 and I send the metadata in Spanish
(ej. Taxonomía) and save right. The subject index is OK, but if I use any of
these words, the search didn't return results because the used word is not well
spelled . Example the word used is "Taxonomía", and the return search word is
"Taxonomía" with no hits.

Can you help me?

Helix84,
Thanks for the help. You are right. In one of the reinstallation process I lost
the modification of the server.xml in tomcat 7. Now, the Spanish words are
spelled right but if I use the basic search, the application doesn't returns
results, only if I use the indexes of the right column (Mirage theme in xmlui).

I execute the discovery update index and have the following exception:

Yes, that sounds like missing URIEncoding="UTF-8", just like Javier said. If
you're using other connectors than for HTTP (HTTPS, AJP), make sure to include
it in those, too.

Did you try to change solr.search.server to http://localhost:8080/solr/search?
If not, make the change, rebuild and restart tomcat.

Hi Javier.
The solr server is working. The Response to the wget command is:

You have to be sure Solr is running. Try to access to
http://localhost:8080/solr/<http://localhost:8080/solr/search> (with wget or
links if you are in ssh, or any other browser). By default, this URL is
restricted to the local machine.

Also, make sure the changes to the config files (source) are reflected in your
Dspace installation directory.

Dear Javier Távara,
I try your recommendation and the result is the same:

Did you try to change solr.search.server to http://localhost:8080/solr/search?
If not, make the change, rebuild and restart tomcat.
