Hi Claudia,
Thanks for your response but I haven't been able to correctly set up the
labels I have
Messages_es.properties and Messages.properties at the
[dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources directory
after redeploy I've just double checked and both files are present at the
/dspace/webapps/jspui/WEB-INF/classes directory.
In the Messages_es.properties file the labels appear as you said at the end
of the file:
#BIIACS translations
metadata.dc.title = T\u00EDtulo
#metadata.dc.contributor.* = Autor
metadata.dc.contributor.author = Autor
metadata.dc.coverage.* = Alcance
metadata.dc.identifier = Identificador
metadata.dc.identifier.govdoc = Identificador
metadata.dc.subject.* = Tema
metadata.dc.date.issued = Fecha
metadata.dc.date.completion = Fecha
metadata.dc.rights.* = Licencia de uso
metadata.dc.type.* = Tipos de archivos
metadata.dc.identifier.citation = Cita
metadata.dc.description.abstract = Resumen
metadata.dc.relation = Relaci\u00F3n
The weird stuff is that everything is being translated correct with the
exception of the item labels. Another two things
that I just can't understand is first why just the Date/Fecha labels which
correspond to the dc.date.issued dublincore field
was translated. The second is why the site was translated to French if I
didn't provided any translation
and I didn't find any file with French words on it at my system. Where are
those language packs located?
If I just change the name of the files like this
mv Messages.properties Messages_es.properties
mv Messages_es.properties Messages.properties
The problem is inverted and and the Spanish translation work as expected
while the English version does not.
I'm pretty sure this should be a silly error but I just can't discover
what's happening.

Hi Ricardo,
you got to check the section in the Messages*.properties which starts with
metadata.
The default labels supplied are:
metadata.dc.contributor.* = Authors
metadata.dc.contributor.author = Authors
metadata.dc.contributor.editor = Editors
metadata.dc.date.issued = Issue Date
metadata.dc.description = Description
metadata.dc.description.abstract= Abstract
metadata.dc.identifier = Other Identifiers
metadata.dc.identifier.citation = Citation
metadata.dc.identifier.govdoc = Gov't Doc #
metadata.dc.identifier.isbn = ISBN
metadata.dc.identifier.ismn = ISMN
metadata.dc.identifier.issn = ISSN
metadata.dc.identifier.uri = URI
metadata.dc.publisher = Publisher
metadata.dc.relation.ispartofseries = Series/Report no.
metadata.dc.subject = Keywords
metadata.dc.title = Title
metadata.dc.title.alternative = Other Titles
If you do use any other metdatafield in the default item display, you got
to make an entry:
metadata.[schema].[element] (for an unqualified metdata field)
metadata.[schema].[element].* (for all metdata fields with this schema and
element)
metadata.[schema].[element].[qualifier] (for a qualified metadata field)
If you do use customize versions of the message catalogues, put these in
[dspace-source]/dspace/modules/jspui/src/main/resources
run mvn package and ant update and redeploy.
Hope that helps

Hello all,
I'm upgrading to DSpace 1.5.2 and I've installed a bilingual
(English/Spanish) instance. I've just added the language
switcher to the header.jsp in order to let the user switch languages at
any
time. Everything works fine with the exception
of metadata labels at the item view (see for example
http://biiacs2.cide.edu/handle/10089/3502) .
If you click the English/Spanish language switcher everything will
translated but not the metadata labels, with the
unique exception of the Date/Fecha label.
I've reviewed many times the Messages.properties and
Messages_es.properties
files and I just can't see
an error.
Thanks for your help
