It's not your DB name. db.name is the RDBMS name. Your DB name is at
the end of db.url.

ation is something other than "postgres", "oracle", or "h2".
In any case, you need to find out why "database_schema.sql" was not
where the loader expected to find it.

Once again, the actual failure has scrolled off the display. Your
screen capture only shows warnings after DSpace has already thrown a
failure and is shutting down.

This will almost always be the case, unless you scroll back a bit.
DSpace logs a lot of messages.

Line 795 appears to be in the target "setup_database", which runs the
DSpace Script Launcher to install the database schema. I would look
for messages about failure to contact the DBMS, failure to connect to
the database, or failure to create a table, view, sequence, or the
like.

Hi Luis,

1. The following documentation chapter lists DSpace requirements:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC3x/Installation#Installation-RelationalDatabase:(PostgreSQLorOracle)

There should be no reason to stay at 8.2. It's strongly recommended to
upgrade at least to 8.4.

2. The actual error is in the text above that message. Please, paste the
full text here.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Problem installing DSpace 1.6.2 on Debian_lenny with Tomcat 5.5

2010-08-04 Thread helix84
Only to explain, when you're running
$ sudo sh /usr/share/tomcat5.5/bin/catalina.sh run
you're starting another instance of tomcat. But because you said you
already have tomcat installed from the repository, I suppose it's
already running. To make Tomcat aware of a new context you should have
created for DSpace in /etc/tomcat5.5/server.xml, you need to restart
the running instance (sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 restart).

No, newer Tomcat will not help you. You either need to shut down the
process that runs on port 8180 in order to make it available to Tomcat
before starting it or configure Tomcat (or the Tomcat context DSpace
runs in) run on another port.

However, when you're using Tomcat from repository,
instead of
$ sudo sh /usr/share/tomcat5.5/bin/catalina.sh run
you need to run
$ sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat5.5 start
Then you will also often use the same command with "stop" and
"restart" instead of "start".

So, first thing, run
$ sudo netstat -tulpn to find out the name and PID of the process
which runs on port 8180

1) if it's Tomcat, restart it and
a) if you configured the context correctly, DSpace should be running there
b) if you chose to copy DSpace to /var/lib/tomcat5.5/webapps,
DSpace should also be running
2) if it's other process than DSpace
a) shut it down and make it use another port
b) configure DSpace context to run on another port

I'm running the same configuration as you, there's no need not to use
packages from the repository.

[Dspace-tech] Problem installing DSpace 1.6.2 on Debian_lenny with Tomcat 5.5

Dear Sir,

install all pre-requisite softwares from repository, not from sources. The
things were all going fine untill I've installed the DSpace itself. The

but after that Tomcat gives me follwiing error when tried to run it:

-Original Message-Hi Chris,

Sorry, I meant dspace.hostname, not dspace.name - try changing the
following in dspace.cfg:

Dspace.url = "">
Dspace.hostname = 78.129.197.42

(don't forget to do an ant init_configs after making this change)

In your server.xml, is this appBase parameter within an
appBase="..." type setup? If so, try the following:

* Change
slash)
* Add the following Context element somewhere between the Host elements:

debug="0" reloadable="true" cachingAllowed="false" allowLinking="true"/>
	(NOTE: some of these parameters are suitable for dev
environments only, such as reloadable="true")
* Restart tomcat

You should be able to access your dspace application at
http://78.129.197.42:8080/jspui

Let's see how that goes.

	Hi Chris,

	Good, that's a start...

	Tell us a little more: how and where have you assigned the
webapps to be /dspace/webapps? There are many different ways of doing
this. What's your dspace.url and dspace.name values in your dspace.cfg
file? Also, check [tomcat_home]/logs/catalina.out for any error messages
which seem related to this and post a copy to the list.

Hi Chris,

Sorry, I meant dspace.hostname, not dspace.name - try changing the
following in dspace.cfg:

Dspace.url = http://78.129.197.42:8080/jspui
Dspace.hostname = 78.129.197.42

(don't forget to do an ant init_configs after making this change)

In your server.xml, is this appBase parameter within an
(NOTE: some of these parameters are suitable for dev
environments only, such as reloadable="true")
* Restart tomcat

You should be able to access your dspace application at
http://78.129.197.42:8080/jspui

Let's see how that goes.

I have edited /etc/tomcat5.5/server.xml to set the appBase to be
dspace/webapps.

dspace.url = http://localhost:8080/jspui
dspace.name = DSpace at My University

there no no log files in /usr/share/tomcat5-5/logs, and i did
find my catellina.out in /var/log/tomcat5.5 but it was blank.

any ideas?

Hi Chris,

Good, that's a start...

Tell us a little more: how and where have you assigned the
webapps to be /dspace/webapps? There are many different ways of doing
this. What's your dspace.url and dspace.name values in your dspace.cfg
file? Also, check [tomcat_home]/logs/catalina.out for any error messages
which seem related to this and post a copy to the list.

Cheers

Re: [Dspace-tech] problem installing dspace

2009-08-14 Thread Claudia Jürgen

Hi Chris,

if you already used ant fresh_install and want to use it again run ant
clean_database to clear the db and then ant fresh_install.

If you successfully set up a fresh install and want to update it use
ant update and/or ant init_configs.

Hope that helps

Claudia Jürgen

I have edited dspace/config/dspace.cfg to add in my postgresql settings
I have then gone to dspace and run 'mvn package' which downloadeds a log of jar
files and says complete

When running it i get lots of [info] lines, a few of these lnes:
[WARNING] Using platform encoding (UTF-8 actually) to copy filtered resources,

and these:

It then says build successfull

i have gone to dspace/target/dspace-1.5.2-build.dir/ and ran 'ant fresh_install'
which spit out some java warnings saying the database already has a table
(because this is the second time i have run it) then it gives the error:

BUILD FAILED

This is really frustrating and the compiling works its jus tthe install that
failes. Why isnt the error more usefull. Could it be a permitino problem or
something?

Hi Chris,

I think you want 'ant fresh_install', not 'ant clean'. AFAIA there's no
"clean" target for ant for the DSpace project. The closest thing is
clean_database, which you probably don't need for a fresh install.

Have you first run mvn [clean] package from the [dspace-source]/dspace
directory? If so, then cd to
[dspace-source]/dspace/target/dspace-X.X.X-build.dir directory and run
'ant fresh_install' from there.

Please post a little more information about the exact commands you have
been using.

Thanks,
Gary

Re: [Dspace-tech] problem installing dspace

2009-08-13 Thread wardy277

Thank for your reply,

I have installed ant-nodeps (well downloaded it to
/share/ant/lib/ant-nodeps.jar.) i think that worked but i not get a
different error:

BUILD FAILED
/var/lib/tomcat5.5/webapps/dspace-1.5.2-release/dspace/target/dspace-1.5.2-build.dir/build.xml:585:
Java returned: 1

What does thsi mean? also the ant clean returns
BUILD FAILED
Target "clean" does not exist in the project "DSpace".

any ideas?

[Dspace-tech] Problem Installing dspace 1.5.2

2009-06-23 Thread Mutsikiwa Admire
I am trying to install DSpace release 1.5.2. I am running Fedora 8 and
using the following package:

java version "1.6.0_06"

Apache Ant version 1.7.1

Maven version: 2.0.9

 I have set everthing well as my installation of dspace 1.4.1 is running
smoothly.

I am behind a firewall. I have set the proxy setting in
/etc/maven/settings.xml as directed on
http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-proxies.html . I have gone a step
further and set the proxy settings in /home/dspace/.m2/settings.xml.
However, when, as user dspace, I run :

$ mvn package I am getting the following error.

2008-07-01 Thread Reuben Pasquini
It looks like your server cannot load some class it needs for
authentication.
What do you have your authentication method set to in dspace.cfg ?

# Stack of authentication methods
#  (See org.dspace.authenticate.AuthenticationManager)
plugin.sequence.org.dspace.authenticate.AuthenticationMethod = \
org.dspace.authenticate.PasswordAuthentication

Cheers,
Reuben
