Re: [DSTAR_DIGITAL] IC80AD Data Cable and Software
Gordon, I don't have many answers to your questions since I do not have an 80AD, but I have a few for you that will help you along. As far as I have seen, D-Rats is about the best out there and several groups are using only D-Rats for ecom use. The free software from ICOM's web site does configure the dv mode as well as any function of the radio. Here is a hint to get it running properly. Before you can enter the dv options you must clone the radio to the software. This inputs all of the available options to program. I had the same issue with my 880h. For the data cable, you will need a OPC-1529R (about $25) and a serial to usb adapter. On your cloning cable that is a 1/4 jack. The data is a 3/32 jack (from what I have read thus far) which is the same cable I used on my old 2200h and use now on my 880h. As far as the gps, haven't used it yet. Good luck and 73!! I just bought an IC-80AD and would like some advice. 1. Which data cable does one use to send and receive data and is there a USB version that plugs into the data port on the side? 2. What software does one use for sending information. I know of D-RATS and that is cool, but I am wondering what else has some sizzle. 3. Can the data port and cable be used to configure the radio including the D-STAR portion. 4. I have the USB cable for use in the audio connector for cloning and loading from a PC, but would like to know what software will configure the radio including the D-STAR portion. The ICOM software doesn’t seem to do that. 5. I also bought the GPS microphone and haven’t figured it out yet (nor the D-STAR configuration) so any integration advice with the above would be helpful. RE: [DSTAR_DIGITAL] DPRS issue
have you gone to www.aprs-is.net and followed the settings for the d-prs message? http://www.aprs-is.net/DPRSCalc.aspx This goes in your DV-GPS menu (02/05) GPS MESSAGE Should work alright then. I don't use aprs.fi, I use ui-view32 and have no issues with it... For the MS150 we just recently had here in my zone, I used REFFER2 and was able to beacon through the gateway with no problems... Worked out really nice since my call sign was the command post. Evans F. Mitchell KD4EFM / WQFK-894 Fla.
