RE: [DSTAR_DIGITAL] The Future of USA Emcomm?
I just don't see this being a major replacement of resources. The US Government still seems to have a love for Motorola. The ham community still and in my personal opinion will always have a role in emcomm. We as ham radio operators have the time, ability and resources to fill the gaps and cover the much needed health and welfare gap that responders do not. I do disaster response and my focus is communications, I have to support teams in the field, from within the field and know first hand that it is the ham radio volunteers that set up in hospitals, shelters and emergency operations centers that can get the word out to families and friends outside the affected area that their loved ones are safe. Just my thoughts!! Though there are some P25 Ham repeaters out there, P25 can not come close to what D-Star can do. In the Ham and Emcomm world, D-Star (and Ham radio) has no thing to worry about! [DSTAR_DIGITAL] more DV / FM questions
Ok with all the talk of interfacing DV and FM, here is another question if there is an FM repeater, that has no tone whatsoever, what is it about Dstar that it wont pass through? I know all the obvious like it ticking off all the FM repeater users, and so on... but lets say that I have a 2M FM repeater (I don't but work with me) on 147.000 + CSQ. I know that if I set me radio to that frequency and offset in FM it works. Simple enough, we have used these for years. Now, my buddy and I on our HT's very simply toggle into DV mode, why would this not work the same? I know anyone not using dstar would only hear static, but that for the purpose of this question is not important. (lets call it a private mobile repeater) so there is no one else on. Just a question, don't drag me before the firing squad!! Adam KG4WWH
[DSTAR_DIGITAL] Dprs question
Ok, so here is where I am at.. First thanks to everyone! It works, no fancy software (like I had been told in the past) just hook radio to GPS, set a few settings in the radio and *poof* *presto* there is a little icon of me on the web!! Ok, it's early, I entertain easily! So for about the 2 hours I was driving around I have realized something, _bring extra batteries_. 15 minutes into running errands yesterday the GPS batteries died, and shortly after that the battery on the 91AD followed suit. Thanks again for everyones input! Yeah, but only when a GPS QST fires. Since we can't tell when the radio is keyed, we can't send it automatically send it simultaneously with the voice. Ahh right - that whole can't tell the radio's keyed thing again. Still, very cool. Thanks Dan. Sounds like life's keeping you busy this week. A WHOLE WEEK without an update from Dan?! Is it even possible?! LOL! Just kidding with ya... talented people end up VERY busy... that's just how it goes... we'll all survive until you get caught up, I'm sure. Thanks for all you do. RE: [DSTAR_DIGITAL]
Hi Tom, Thanks for the reply. I have looked at the webpage, and it seems pretty straight forward. Can you (or anyone on the list) walk me through the menu settings to make sure that I have them correct? I am not quite sure where to locate the C1 message on the 91ad. Also you state I need to set me GPS to transmit, is that a radio setting or a GPS setting? Still on IC-91AD. I have added an external antenna for mobile use. I have started the integration of an older GPS (Garmin GPS45) for use in the jeep with DSTAR. I am able to see on the radio that I am connected, as it gives me coordinates in the position screen. So here are the questions, 1) how do I know that I am actually transmitting the GPS data? 2) Is there a map (similar to APRS) where I can see in real time my position? 3) Are there other items that I need to make this all work? [DSTAR_DIGITAL] IC-91AD Programming question
Hello everyone, This is with the RS-91 Programming Software. I was wondering 2 things, First, is there a way to export the data to Excel? And second, is there an easy way to copy the contents of A band to B band? Or vice versa. Thanks and 73, Adam KG4WWH [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Re: [DSTAR_DIGITAL] Re: New U.S. D-STAR map, Updated
I commend Greg (?) On his efforts. What I would like to know is if we as users notice an error, is there a place we can send the correct info so on the next revision he has the right stuff. I know it's all in fun and no harm intended but I see more comments about the wrong locations then the 'hey, thanks for taking the time and effort to put this together' Just my 2 cents worth. WOW!!! I never meant to start all of this; I just wanted to know if I could surprise a distant ham buddy of mine. I don't recognize cryptic aliases, but I do recognize a call sign and relate that to a person. 73, steve Nate Duehr wrote: Easy Steve. check this out. RE: [DSTAR_DIGITAL] People Locator
Ok, thanks everyone, but I guess it clears after a while, I tried my own call sign, and it came up with no information. I have a lot to learn about DSTAR, but I am getting it slowly!! Adam KG4WWH _ From: dstar_digital@yahoogroups.com [mailto:dstar_digi...@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Nate Duehr Sent: Monday, March 16, 2009 15:26 To: dstar_digital@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [DSTAR_DIGITAL] People Locator And those pointing you to the dstarusers.org site are also correct, but why go outside of the system to an add-on to find data that's already there? See, I found Fran! (GRIN. I chose someone at random from this thread to show that you can find anyone on any system.) Remember I'm logged into W0CDS as my regular user, not the admin user.. Example: W1FJM AA1HD C AA1HD 10.205.233.248 W1FJM D AA1HD A AA1HD 10.205.233.250 W1FJM H AA1HD A AA1HD 10.205.233.251 W1FJM M AA1HD B AA1HD 10.205.233.249 Now not only do I know Fran's a D-STAR user, but that he's using letter routing (or at least that he's registered to do so) and likely has more than one rig. maybe I'd call W1FJM or maybe I'd try W1FJM H or W1FJM M if I wanted to see if he was home or mobile. the information on the Gateway web interface is far more useful than the DStarUsers.org info. You do have to remove the local repeater callsign (just highlight and hit delete) from the ZONERPT_CS file (Zone Repeater Callsign), or it'll only find local users on your Gateway.
