Porvoossa eilen 29.1 05-0637 lujat signaalit. Täällä oli Orinoco-Karibia-NA seos. Valitettavasti oli lähdettävä töihin 0750. Panin kolme taajuutta tarkkailuun. 1560 on mielenkiintoinen sillä siellä tulee vielä 0630 kovalla sinkulla SS-asema hard-rock formaatilla ja nopean nauha selailussa huomaan ainakin kahdeksan paikkaa puolen tunnin ajalta mutta en ole vielä irottanut muuta kun 15-60. Tämä asema peitti täysin Disneyn ja kaiken lisäksi oli vielä toinen SS läsnä. Myös 1490:lla on pari SS ja ainakin yksi jenkki mutta en ole nauhaa vielä kuunnellut. Sen sijaan 1350:llä yllätys kyllä ei tullut muuta kuin Unkari tällä kertaa. Tänä aamuna 30.1 hyvin heikkoja sinkkuja auringonnousussa. Sain juuri vastauksen WOR 710:ltä (alla). V/s kertoo aseman testanneen digitaalilähetyksiä, jonka vuoksi kaistanlevys on kapeampi ja kuuluvuus täälläpäin parempi. For the past several months we have been testing a new Digital transmission scheme by Ibiquity. This has reduced our analog bandwidth to 5khz, therefore we are much louder on the dial and now get out farther, which ends up helping far away listeners like yourself.We frequently get reports from the UK and as far away as Russia. This is due to the WOR directional antenna, which pushes about 250kw ERP, into the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. Our antenna is designed to cover the US eastern seaboard, and your reception is a by-product of the design of our antenna. With the internet, DX'ing is now becoming almost a thing of the past, and with the US getting into an In Band On Channel (IBOC) digita transmission scheme for AM broadcasters, you may have even more difficulty getting a lot of US stations. Right now we are not operating this system at night but we expect IBOC will eventually be on at night . There are digital carriers on each side of the analog signal, and sound like white noise, and presently go off at sunset and on at sunrise NY local time. Time will tell on this one. The new HD radio's will be out here in the US this summer, we are excited about it because it allows us to deliver a stereo digital signal to our listeners. In answer to your question about the future of DW-English language shortwave programmes to North America and the Pacific region, I would like to inform you that, to date DW-Radio's English Service has broadcast to all of its target audiences via the shortwave but, as of 30th March 2003, this policy will change. In future Deutsche Welle will take into account the conditions prevailing on individual media markets and respond to new technical developments in the most appropriate fashion. DW plans to introduce digital shortwave transmissions to East Asia and Europe with analogue shortwave transmissions to Asia and Africa continuing for the foreseeable future. However, shortwave broadcasts to the highly developed media markets of North America and Australia and New Zealand will be terminated. Instead, DW will focus on expanding the number of radio stations, like Canadian Broadcasting Corporation or ABC News Radio, who rebroadcast DW-Radio's programmes successfully. Listeners in those regions will of course still be able to hear us via satellite or by means of our Internet page at www.dw-world.de/English. You will no doubt be hearing more about this subject, as well as the facelift the English Service will be experiencing - during our various programmes.
