Re: [DX-CHAT] QSL info
I have received several emails reminding me LOTW is, at best, only available for ARRL DXCC WAS. WHY??? Why can't the ARRL make LOTW information available via a 'read-only' search engine. Logbook search engines are a 'dime-a-dozen', the technology is readily available and does not have to be re-invented. There is nothing secretive about the fact I worked station XYX on 20m CW. Making QSL information readily available, to anyone, would not compromise anything. Awards like IOTA, for example, could then establish their own guidelines for how/when this information could be used in lieu of the hard/impossible to acquire QSL cards. The LOTW system is, I think we all agree, very secure and very accurate because of the way it was designed, implemented and managed. I think the next step is to use LOTW to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. c.c. RE: [DX-CHAT] QSL info
Title: Message Why can't the ARRL make LOTW information available via a 'read-only' search engine. Quite simply, the ARRL does not want anyone "trolling" for QSOs. Either the information uploaded by both stations matches or it does not. To allow unrestricted searching would invite the followingabuse: W4TV searches for unconfirmed QSOs with: K4TV, W4TU,W4NU,W3TV, W3TU, W3NU, W4EV, W3EV on CW and W4TB, W4TD, W4TE on phone. Onfinding an entry that is "needed" sends the station/manager a card with a note claiming to have been the one to have made the the QSO "but QRM or QRN must have effected what you heard." There is an API available to award sponsors who wish to accept LotW confirmations. It is easy for them to submit an inquiry to LotW and get a confirmation or rejection. Re: [DX-CHAT] QSL info
Well, for starters ... your right ... BUT online logs state band and mode only, no time or date. A contact means getting the call right, and an exchange of a correct signal report at the least. TROLLING for BUSTED CALLS, if you didn't get the call right, well maybe you should just delete it out of your log, it wasn't a valid Q in my book. I see it all too much lately guys with busted calls trying to find the manager or QSL route, oviously there is none until they find it's a bad call and correct it with the right one. But you know what? WHATEVER, if it makes them happy than I am happy. But, it was no real contact in my book, and everyone has books, they read them the way they see fit. That's why the ARRL does not want to publish the DATA, band and mode would be OK, date and times never. ESP contacts, busted calls, no confirmation on air of received report, all kind of sickening. GREED, it's a terrible thing. Have a good day, and make sure you get the call right. 73 Pete NA2P
