2M, SCOTLAND. Paul, 2E1EUB, will be active as 2M1EUB/p from from north-
east Scotland (IO87RJ) beginning July 27th for 7 days. Activity will be
mainly on the satellites (maybe some HF too). QSL via 2E1EUB.

CU2, AZORES. Ann, WA1S, is expected to be active as CU2/WA1S this week
between July 27th and August 10th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters,
except for 30 meters. QSL via her home callsign.

CY0, SABLE ISLAND. Duane, WV2B, has announced that a group is in the
early stages of planning a DXpedition to Sable Island during 2009.
Currently, there are four operators mentioned: Duane/WV2B (CW/SSB),
Rich/AI5P (CW/SSB), Dick/VE1AI (CW/SSB) and Scott/KA3QLF (RTTY/SSB).
The callsign to be used is CY0ZZ. Activity will be on 160-6 meters
and they plan to have a minimum of 3 stations on the air. A dedicated
6 meter station is a possibility. QSL routes are: AI5P/CY0 via AI5P,
CY0ZZ via KA3QLF or VK4AAR for VK, JA, etc.. stations. The team is
looking for sponsors to help them cover the large cost of chartering
the Britain Norman Islander aircraft which must be used to land on
the beach at Sable Island. The cost of this charter alone will be
nearly $10,000. Further information is available on their Web site at:
http://www.sabledx.com

GB100, ENGLAND (Special Event). Look for special event station GB100J
to be activated by an international group of Amateur Radio operators
from the 21st World Scout Jamboree at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, in the
United Kingdom between July 27th and August 7th. Operations will take
place on all bands and all modes including PSK31. For more information,
please visit: http://gb100j.radio-scouting.org.uk

GB4, ENGLAND (Special Event). David, M0XDF, suggests to listen on
Wednesday, August 1st, for Scout stations to be active from all over
the world to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Scouting. His Scout
groups will have a special event station on that day. Look for GB4SBS
(Second Bracknell Scouts) from a camp site near East Grinstead in
England. Activity will be mainly SSB (no bands provided).

HC8, GALAPAGOS ISLANDS. Operators Manu/LX2LX and Norby/LX1NO are now
active as HC8/homecall from Isabela Island (IOTA SA-004, WLOTA L-2957),
the largest island within the Galapagos group, until July 31st. Their
activity will be low profile (holiday style) mainly on CW with some
SSB. QSL via LX1NO. An online log may be available at:

We are not currently seeking any more operators.

[DX-NEWS] Midway to allow visitors, volunteers

2007-07-22 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
By AUDREY McAVOY, Associated Press Writer
Sat Jul 21, 1:30 PM ET

MIDWAY ATOLL - The long stretch of atolls and coral reefs northwest of the main
Hawaiian islands is so precious humans generally aren't allowed to venture
there.

Boats need special permits to enter. All fishing must stop in 2011, aside from
what Native Hawaiians catch for cultural purposes. President Bush made the
region the largest protected marine area in the world when he declared the
Northwestern Hawaiian Islands a marine national monument last year.

But there is one spot in the 1,400-mile archipelago where officials believe
human visitors, in limited numbers, could do more good than harm: Midway Atoll.

In about six months, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to allow tourists
to visit Midway, primarily to help clear the island of debris and invasive
species. Wildlife officials also hope visitors will leave having become strong
advocates for the continued preservation of the monument.
