Oh, c'mon now...if that statement were correct, I could squeeze a full-size 160-meter
inverted vee on my 100x100-foot city lot. (234/1.8 = 130 feet - bingo! I'm on 160!)

The first statement is correct, 468 divided by the frequency in megahertz gives you
the approximate dimensions of a half-wave dipole, in feet (approximate means, the 468
figure comes from an assumption of the velocity factor of the wire, based on its
diameter, conductivity and such. The non-adjusted formula for a half-wave in free
space, in a vacuum, is 492 divided by the frequency in megahertz).

The formula for the approximate length of a quarter-wave vertical antenna is 234
divided by the frequency in megahertz.

Hope this helps.

You are correct. I had it backwards. ::sigh::

468 divided by the frequency in megahertz (468/f) will give you the
length in feet of a QUARTER-wave. For a dipole you will need to double
that figure or use 234/f for your original formula.

For example, the length of a dipole for 14.2 MHz would be approximately
234/14.2 or 16.5 feet. Start a bit longer than that and trim it to
length with an SWR bridge.

Anyone know off the top of their head the numerator in the formula for
calculating the length of a dipole?
I want to say 468?

I guess I meant "honor-roll equivalents". There may be no Honor Roll
pe-se on 160, 80, etc. but I still would like to see everyone within
the top 10 in each listing.

Re: [DXR] DXCC Century Club

2001-06-23 Thread RWMaylott

QST Listings were dropped when the DXCC Yearbook was introduced - way back in
1993

You get the yearbook if (1) you updated your credits the past year or (2) you
are CURRENT on the Honor Roll. Perhaps some that didn't get a yearbook have
dropped OFF the Honor Roll because of added countries like Temotu and
Chesterfield.

I wish they would include ALL the Honor Roll memebers in each category
in the yearbook, regardless of whether they submit or not. It would
make the listing more meaningful.

73 - Jim AD1C

It was my understanding that they DO list all Honor Roll members,
at least in the Mixed, Phone, CW, and RTTY listings. NOT so for
the single band awards.

Re: [DXR] DXCC Century Club

2001-06-23 Thread Don Hall

Jim,

If I read the info correctly on page 2 of the latest DXCC yearbook it says
the following:

"DXers are shown in the listings only if they are on the Honor Roll on a
particular mode or if their totals on a band or mode have increased during
the year..."

This means all Honor Roll members are shown each year, not dropped off if
they have not submitted cards during that year.

Is my interpretation correct?
