[DX-NEWS] State Side Hams

2002-01-30 Thread Richard Brake

Sorry for being off topic, but felt this was important.

Did anyone have any thoughts on the Presidents call
for all Americans to put in more time in public service ?

Most of us belong to ARES and have helped out in times
of need with natural disasters, and many helped
during the 9-11 attack. As will as the other man made
terror attacks in the past. Not to mention all the traffic
than has been passed to our troops over seas.

I'm sure the ARRL is looking at this, and I think there
a number of ways we can help.

The possibilities exist from the local club level to handling
of health and welfare traffic over seas.

We can all benefit by helping to keep our country safer
and proving our worth as amateurs, keeping our
bands, and increasing the numbers of new operators.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

For the information of all:

[DX-NEWS] [Fwd: EP3PTT 40 MTRS !!]

2002-01-30 Thread Bob

I JUST WANTED TO PASS THIS INFO ONTO OTHER'S 73/BOB GOOD LUCK WFWL !!

Dear Bob
Salaam
No they are not to get up 40 metre antenna, AND, the station is not supposed
to work CW at all. [EMAIL PROTECTED] has also received similar enquieries and
is busy sending the above reply,hi,hi.

Over the years, I have logged some 400+ fake EP calls for whom I have
received 1000s of qsl cards. I think I stopped counting after the first 3000
or so. Some of them for very active ones like ep2mko with a qsl manager in
Russia.

ALL of the CE0's have had DXpeditions which received special
authorization for 30M. I worked a CE3 last year on 30M so
perhaps they have finally received authorization, but I don't know
for sure.

[DX-NEWS] YA5MM QSL's from the past !!

2002-01-30 Thread kss

In a QSO earlier this evening with EY8MM, I had inquired as to
availability of QSL's from his YA5MM optn from years back. This thread
had began from a conversation of several local hams regarding the
difficulty of now, once again, having YA stations on the air and getting
QSL's with the very unstable postal situation in that recovering country.

He had QSL'd me on several bands with no problems years ago, and now he
even has a manager stateside, with a still open log for this YA optn !
K1BV has the info/QSL's according to Nodir.

He had even mentioned bringing this info to the reflector for an update
to everyone that had worked YA5MM, but still needed a QSL.

I'm sure many will benefit from this bit of info for those "lost" QSO's
that are really tough to get now, but which are in your logs already.
Good Luck !!

Best 73

P.S. THANKS Nodir for sharing the info with all of us !!!

[DX-NEWS] Idea -- Can All DXCC countries operate on all bands???

2002-01-30 Thread ac6v

Ah the big inspiration lets say I want to know if BY operates on
17M
go to URL:
http://oh2aq.kolumbus.com/dxs/
Select No Frames
Click on The Spot Database Search.
Select year 2001 and band e.g, 17M
Type in desired Prefix i.e. BY

Get results
18078.0 BY0AA 1617 12 Apr 2001
18077.9 BY0AA 1703 12 Apr 2001
18082.0 BY0AA 1712 15 Apr 2001
18150.2 BY5BG CQ 1442 07 Jun 2001
18135.0 BY1DX

Neat Huh

Getting no results doesn't say that the enitity can't operate there, but
a result comeback sez they have operated there. Assuming no slims,
Pirates and other such operations.

Hola !
Very weak here also, except on 30 meters.

QTH is probably the old Norwegian whaling town of
Grytviken, which now is a ghost town.

[DX-NEWS] Can not HS operate on all bands

2002-01-30 Thread Charles Harpole

Also,
HS can not get on 6 meters.
HS Freqs for 80 meters are 3 kc. each centered on 3.525 and 3.535 and
allowed only during CQ contests. Both CW and SSB are allowed on those
freqs.

Many newer ham rigs are not type approved for use in HS, depending on bands
covered or not covered by those rigs.

HS zero Z prefixes go only to foreigners these days. Current new
assignments are in the "HS0ZD__" range.

Also VU does not have permanent authorization on much of 80M for SSB
- a certain frequency range (fortunately including the DX window!) is
renewed annually.

Re: [DX-NEWS] Can All DXCC counties operate on all bands???

2002-01-30 Thread n4kg

NO, they can't.

30M is not authorized in A4, CE, 5Z, and maybe YI (at one time anyway).
It would be nice if their governments would grant a 'temporary'
authorization
to test the impact.

30M (and 6M) was not allowed in VU, but a temporary authorization
was granted a year or so ago, and then renewed. I'm not sure if
permanent authorization has been granted.

HS does not allow any WARC band operation. Also 160 and 80M
are only authorized for special occassions on a few select frequencies.

Until a few years ago, WARC bands were not authorized in 3V but
TS7N and others received permission for their operations.
